2018 has seen a lot of familiar faces returning to the Square, I would be interested in hearing your thoughts on them and who has been the best so far. I don’t know how, to attach a poll but if someone could do that for me that would be good. I have really enjoyed the return of both Kat and Mel I think that it has been really interesting, to see both ladies again. Masood’s return has been the worst. |

The return of Jessie Wallace has been the most pleasing for me in terms of perfomer, because there's something so comforting knowing she is on the books. However, in terms of character themselves, Mel Owen has been the most progressive and interesting. I had very little anticipation for the return, as Mel was always just a vaguely drawn pretty leading lady of years gone by in my estimation. But this return has taken that foundation and made it so utterly compelling to who she is now. Tough, hardened and blinkered by her love for her son. It's fresh and interesting, and not simply a redux of what made her worth bringing back. They've progressed her so effortlessly, and she is one of the only characters who actively excites me. |

I definitely agree with you on that one. I think, it has been really interesting seeing Mel as a character after all of these years. I find her relationship with Hunter, a very fascinating watch and I think that there could be fireworks just around the corner for their relationship. |

Cannot believe I forgot about Tiffany! Although she has slotted back into the show so effortlessly, it doesn't feel like she's been away in the first place. A future leading lady without doubt. Such a brilliant little performer and a fantastic little piece of history and legacy, whilst still feeling like a character who could grow to be something very special on her own merits. Very excited to see the big things she goes on to do on the show as she gets older, and hopefully her role as a FauxSlater isn't going to be a long-term situation. She's a Butcher, and I want to see that explosion back onto the Square. Hopefully Ricky will be on that poll by December. |

I've loved the majority of the returnees this year. It's only really Masood's return which I haven't enjoyed. Like TOSC said, Mel's return has brilliant. The announcement she was returning was really a bolt out of the blue and I did have some concerns how she'd fit into the show in 2018 but she's really just excelled from the moment she returned. Seeing Mel as the ferocious mother hen who is out to protect her son at any cost has been fascinating viewing and I think that the Owen family dynamic is one of the most compelling in a long time. Their mother/son relationship is delightful to watch: it's quick witted and it's funny, but there's also a darker side there as we see Hunter's psychology as he finds out who he is. It's been far better than I could ever have imagined it to be. I really love her pairing with Jack as well. Kat's return has been wonderful as well. Jessie is such a star and she's really come back fresh and rejuvenated. There is an energy surrounding her that was lacking throughout her second stint but is definitely back now. She lights up the screen every single time she appears. The Kat we are seeing now feels like a continuation of the Kat we saw back in 2005. The writing is a lot sharper and the one liners are hilarious. There is clearly a lot of story under the surface, as always with Kat, and I don't think we've started with that just yet. I feel like Autumn will be a very exciting time for her character. It's always lovely to see Tanya Franks on screen delivering knock out performances and Maisie Smith is a little star in the making. |

I voted for Kat's return: for me personally, it was a real turning point for the show. Up to that point I had been a casual viewer for a while after growing disinterested with the plots the show was featuring but Kat's return got me hooked religiously. As has already been stated above, Jessie Wallace is a dime a dozen and she has such star quality it's difficult to not find yourself immersed in her performances. Whilst the leopard print can sometimes seem slightly OTT there is no denying the massive presence Jessie has and Kat's character is really going from strength to strength at the moment. I've found myself enjoying most of the returnees, saying that. I think EastEnders is generally the best of the soaps at bringing characters back and making them fit the canvas again. |

I'm really disappointed in the way they're writing for Masood. I'm tired of him being the village idiot, and not standing up to Ian and his aunt and uncle. |

Toss up between Mel and Kat but I chose Mel just because she feels like the bigger character at the moment. Kat's the best she's been since 2005 though. |
