I absolutely adored that shot of Kat in the first episode when she and Mo were in the kitchen with Ollie, hands on her hips laying down the law. That is who Kat Moon should be. It was such a powerful moment and Jessie played it to be perfection. I feel like we've seen the occasional glimmer of Kat Moon: Matriarch but tonight was one of the best yet. She is an absolute force to be reckoned with and I adored how she was strong and firm whilst also being caring and kind at the same time. What a character, what a woman. |

Ian/Masood comedy aside that was a pretty strong double. The Mick/Stuart stuff has actually turned into something very dark, unpredictable but also interesting and engaging, which is an impressive feat given that their initial scenes when Stuart first appeared were so awful. I've been critical of the way the genre as a whole does issue stories these days but I think they're doing well with this and (perhaps to a lesser extent) the stabbing - I prefer this approach rather than just flinging issue led stories at the cast and seeing which ones stick. Jean and Shirley was a lovely little scene that came out of nowhere - I'm pleased to see their friendship remembered again. Gillian Wright was an absolute star tonight - I agree that Ollie's bitterness right at the end jarred a bit with the tone of the rest of the scene but otherwise it had a similar understated sadness to Ted coming to terms with Joyce's death. Raw, human drama with no bells or whistles. If you'd told me a year ago that Bernadette and Tiffany would be two of my favourites I'd have laughed you out of the room, but pairing these two together has been an inspired move. I like what they've done with this little story - it's a bit different from the usual soapy staple but I think it's very relatable. Someone needs to tell Ian that he isn't going to recapture that 1999 magic with Mel any time soon. I did like them finally talking about Lucy again but at the same time it did feel like someone on the team had just realised that it's taken them almost half a year for that moment to happen and hastily wrote it in. But yeah, Ian/Mel needs cancelled, along with Ian/Masood - for the sake of Gillian Taylforth's willpower if anything else. |

I thought the same! It was a nice scene don't get me wrong but the whole thing was very random and out of the blue. Maybe next week we'll see her deciding to discuss Kathy's return from the dead, or the fact that Ian raised a hottie like Ben Hardy. |
