Friday 6th July 2018
Shakil's funeral day has arrived and Kush tells Jay that the original plans for the service will be going ahead, despite Carmel's decision yesterday.

Carmel is now refusing to attend, despite pleas from Kush, and she later goes missing just as everyone is due to leave.

While everyone else heads off to the church, Denise tries to track down Carmel. Can she convince her to attend?

I really loved that opening shot.

Bonnie has obviously delivered some beautiful performances recently but I feel as though we don't talk about Davood enough.

So underrated and understated in his performances.

I still rather they went for a different approach but these real life moments are heartbreaking.

My problem with this is that we're meant to be focusing on Shakil's story.

Every time they cut away to the real life stories, I get distracted and I'm taken away from it.

That shot of Kat looking at the coffin was haunting.

The entire episode has been beautifully filmed and directed so far but that particular shot jumped out at me.

The direction in this episode is really striking.

These 'real life' bits are soul-destroying and although they go against the norms of EastEnders, I'm finding that the episode flows so much more than I thought it would.

I think it would work far better if it had less screen time.

Obviously what these people have been through is heartbreaking and their stories are important but I wish it had been done in a different way. Something like having them at Carmel's support group would have been a great way to draw attention to their stories without taking the focus away from Shakil's story and the Kazemis.
