Diane Parish impressed me far more in that one scene than she did in any of her issue based stories last year.

As the episode has progressed, the real life stories (and they are obviously heartbreaking) have jarred more but I think it's a very brave move of the show to have tried doing it in this way.

Sometimes things don't always work but I feel on this occasion, the sentiment was definitely the right one.

I wouldn't want EastEnders to do this all the time but as a one-off experiment, it's serving its purpose well.

Can't fault that ending one bit, got a bit choked up.

But the inserts throughout... They tried something new and I applaud them for it, but I hope they never do it again.

I think having the real people in just the final scenes holding their pictures and then the trailer for their full stories on BBC Three would've worked a lot better. The cutaways just felt too jarring.

The funeral was brilliant though. Very emotional.

The stabbing story thus far has been brilliant, the actual funeral scenes were done brilliantly and with my 'casual viewer' goggles on, I can see what they were going for.

It could have been worse, it could have been better. More importantly, it could have been this...

I thought that was a stunning final scene. In terms of direction and cinematography it's up there with some of the show's best ever work. Phenomenal performances from the main players as well.

I'm not sure how to feel about the inserts. I still wish they had gone for Kush/Carmel attending a support group and having the stories heard through that but I don't think they jarred with the episode that much, and after that final scene I can see why they perhaps favoured this approach. It's good to see the show prepared to experiment again though - sometimes these things work and sometimes they don't. I'm not sure what the response will be like but I wouldn't want it to deter them from trying similar things in the future.

I thought it was great, the talking head stories added a lot of emotional weight to the episode for me. Those shots of Kat were just stunning as well.

Now I know why this forum exists. Thank god. Despite what some may think of the format, I think the direction, cinematography, real-life inserts hit a real nerve with millions tonight. Who cares if they have a few real people appear within an episode of soap? Who says soap has to be the same shit over and over again since decades ago? The soap genre can and should try to innovate fresh ideas to get thier message across and if this storyline saves even one person, it’s done it’s job.

The cinematography was so beautiful in that shot with Kat and Jean outside next to Shakil's coffin, it was impeccably shot and beautifully subtle.
