I felt like there were some great character moments for Jay and Tiffany in this episode. Jay, who is still young at 23, was suddenly left managing a funeral parlor with little experience a few months back and is still on a massive learning curb with his job. Him actually going through and cancelling all the arrangements because of an upset Carmel's say so is not down to him being a dope or anything, it's him making a mistake that's brought on by the fact he's still young, inexperienced and empathetic enough that he put Carmel's emotions above what was best for the business. He seemed to recognize this fact when he almost tearfully stated he hoped all the stress Kush was under later wasn't down to him. A great understated little moment.

Tiffany's has already been pointed out. Her initially looking to center herself at the funeral, not out of malice but out of immaturity, and then backing out at the last minute when she realized it wasn't her place was the kind of character development piece I've not really seen EastEnders do in a very long time. Did it serve any real plot purpose? No. But did it serve or develop a character (one whom is the daughter of Ricky and Bianca and could have a bright future on the show)? Absolutely. What with Jay and Tiffany's little moments, Kat and Jack's faces as they saw the coffin, Sharon and Denny getting their seconds of focus (which they could have easily not done and the episode wouldn't have lost anything), Patrick, Ian and Kathy being focused on whilst the vicar talked about the injustice of losing ones child - I feel like I'm watching a show that is putting its characters first again.

Some amazing performances throughout the episode. The final scenes were so emotional and powerful. It takes a lot to make me cry but I was a bit of a mess.

For this storyline, I felt the inserts worked. They really hit a nerve, and as cliche as it may sound, if they affected one person enough that they stop carrying a knife around with them then they've done their job.

I was out last night getting down and dirty with Beppe in the E20 (I wish) so I’ve only just managed to catch up.

I actually thought that the inserts made the story even more poignant and emotional. They were informative and heartbreaking enough to serve their purpose but I don’t think they dominated too much. As a one off I think it worked far better than I was expecting it too. I think it was brave of them to break the usual format and it was far better than some of the other soaps attempts to be different. Especially with the scene of Denise finding Carmel just as she left the room, it came across to me that the viewers were seeing things from Carmel’s P.O.V and she was at the support group. Obviously, that idea is sort of ruined by the fact that there were inserts when Carmel was at the church but that’s the way I interpreted it.

Lots of fantastic moments from the cast - it was nice to see brief moments of focus on Jessie, Scott and Letitia and I think all excelled at getting their emotions across using just the power of their faces.

Bonnie and Davood were obviously absolutely brilliant from start to finish. I adored the small touches like the prayers in the Masoods living room, and Carmel wearing Shakil’s jacket. The story has been a triumph and it has been absolutely brilliant to see them finally getting their moment to shine.

Maisie Smith was absolutely brilliant as well. I loved Tiffany’s scenes in the episode.

The star of the show for me though was definitely Diane Parish. The turnaround in the quality in Denise’s character under Yorke has been exceptional. She works fabulously in this role and Diane’s performances last night were absolutely amazing. She is definitely giving some of the peformances of her career in this story.

I agree about Diane Parish being the star of the show. The way she looked at Kush when she sat behind him in the church broke me.

RIP Shakil Kazemi. :(

The stabbing storyline has produced some of the best material, of the decade.

I thought that it showed that Denise felt Kush's pain and that she was sad for him. It was a sweet moment because I thought that it showed that she truly loves him.

Kat's return has been disappointing so far apart from the occasional moment here and there - usually thanks to Jessie and her chemistry with the other actresses rather than anything that the writers are doing - but I choked up at that scene of her besides Shakil's coffin. She is being wasted throughout this stint and it is a disgrace! Stop anyone in the street and ask them to name an iconic EastEnders moment and most would name You Ain't My Mother, that is the reach Kat's character has had on the nation. She is being wasted and it's breaking my heart.
