SKILLSET MILITARY SKILLS DIVING: SBS special operators are expert divers. Since its formation during World War 2, the unit has used the water as a medium for clandestine movement and attack. The SBS have developed a range of techniques for different applications. SUBMARINE INFILTRATION: In the procedure known as E&RE (exit and re-entry), SBS divers exit the sub while it's submerged, bringing their equipment up to the surface before proceeding with the mission. Once the mission is complete, the SBS dive back down to the submarine. This technique - whilst time consuming and dangerous - allows for a highly clandestine mission profile. UNDERWATER RECONNAISANCE: The hull of a battleship can reveal a remarkable amount about the onboard sensors and engines. SBS divers are trained to swim into harbors and examine and photograph the underside of enemy vessels when docked or even when underway. This can be a highly dangerous pursuit, as docked warships regularly carry out anti-diver drills such as suddenly turning on underwater lights, starting up the propellers or sending down their own divers. BEACH RECONNAISANCE: Before an amphibious assault goes in, it is vital that the beaches and approaches to the landing area have been thoroughly surveyed. SBS divers use a variety of tools to measure the incline of the sea bed and to test its consistency and suitability for landing craft. This task may not be glamorous but it does require high levels of stamina and concentration. Throughout the years, the SBS has clandestinely reconnoitered many potential landing points around the world. UNDERWATER DEMOLITIONS: The basic techniques are carried out with divers sneaking into enemy harbors and attaching explosives to the hulls of berthed vessels. Over the years, the SBS have designed and adapted swimmer delivery vehicles (SDVs) to allow for the speedier, stealthier infiltration of demolition teams. A further application of underwater demolitions is the clearing of beach obstacles such a tank traps from amphibious landing areas. SBS divers are skilled at setting charges while remaining submerged and out of sight. CLOSE QUARTERS COMBAT: Whether clearing an enemy stronghold in a war zone or storming a terrorist-held cruise liner, SBS troopers must be experts at fighting in close quarters. ROOM ENTRY & CLEARING: Getting into a room containing hostiles and friendlies, engaging the right targets and covering all angles, all in a matter of seconds, is a demanding challenge. Room entry is always done in teams, with each member given a specific arc of fire and path through a room. When room clearing, each operator must not only shoot the terrorist but also avoid hitting hostages or other team members. This requires extreme levels of concentration and discipline which is why the techniques are practiced over and over until they become second nature. WEAPONS HANDLING: Because the enemy is close in CQB, the SBS operator must be specially trained in close in weapons techniques. This is a discipline that requires the operator to be extremely proficient with his weapons, be it a carbine, sub machine gun or pistol. Operators are taught to fire 'double taps' - 2 rounds at the target in quick succession, repeating until the target is neutralized, then moving onto to the next one. The shots need to be placed exactly so as to kill quickly and to avoid hitting hostages. SBS operators practice various weapons drills until they become instinctive. In training, small SBS teams get through more ammunition than much larger regular units. SBS operators also have to be ready to deal with weapon malfunctions such as stoppages (jammed or miss-fired rounds) These techniques are practiced over and over again as a part of an SBS operator's maritime counter terrorism training (MCT), until they become engrained in the operator - so called 'muscle memory'. PARACHUTING: Jumping out of perfectly good airplanes has been used as method of delivering special operation troops since World War 2. Sky diving is coming out of favor these days, due to the proliferation of radar systems that can detect the jumpers and plane, but mostly due to a preference to use helicopters for insertion. The SBS still practice various parachuting techniques, however. HALO: HALO (High Altitude Low Opening), as the name implies, involves jumping from a very high altitude (30,000 ft or higher), only opening the chute at the last moment. The idea is to exit the plane, at night, above visual range of enemy on the ground and then open the chutes at low altitude, thus minimizing the time spent suspended below a slowly-desending canopy. The jumper has to wear oxygen breathing apparatus as the air is too thin at high altitudes. Keeping a stable freefall posture whilst laden down with a bergen (backpack), oxygen bottles and weapon strapped to one's back requires great skill. HAHO: HAHO (High Altitude High Opening) requires the jumper to open their chute straight away then glide to the landing zone (LZ). Whilst this technique is less stealthy than HALO, it has the advantage that the jumper can glide up to 30 miles from the drop off point. This stand-off capability means that HAHO jumpers can glide across borders, whilst the mother-plane stays in friendly airspace. As with HALO, the jumpers must wear breathing gear for much of the descent. Navigation skills must be sharp to allow the jumper to glide their steerable chutes to the right LZ. WET JUMPING: The SBS were the first unit to develop techniques for parachuting men and equipment into the sea. So-called 'wet jumping' allows the SBS to drop a large maritime counter terrorism force or raiding party far out to sea, out of site of the enemy. The Rigid Inflatable Boats (RIBs) are dropped first, followed by then the men who quickly swim to RIBs and attach the outboard motors before boarding them to proceed with the mission. It's physically demanding techniques such as wet jumping that require SBS operators to maintain incredibly high standards of fitness and stamina. Anything less and the men would be exhausted before the mission proper had even begun. FAST ROPING: Whilst developing techniques for their Maritime Counter Terrorism role, the SBS needed a method for rapidly getting a large number of operators from helicopters onto ships or oil platforms. The rational way was to abseil down, but this method requires a stable surface to allow the abseiler to stop the tension on his line, and unhook. The SBS took inspiration from the fireman's pole and developed 'fast-roping', in which men slide down a rope, using their hands, protected by special gloves, to act as brakes. When mastered, this skill allows large teams of SBS assaulters to get their boots down on the target within seconds. CONCEALMENT: As seen (or not, actually) in the barren landscape of the Falklands and the rolling hills of Northern Ireland, the technique of digging expertly camouflaged hides into the ground allows an SBS recon team to disappear from view whilst keeping a furtive eye on the enemy. The turf is carefully removed and a hole big enough to hold 2- 4 men and their equipment is excavated. The slabs of turf are then attached to a chicken wire roof which covers and conceals the SBS men beneath. An expertly built hide can keep a recon team hidden for weeks, right under the nose of the enemy. During the Falklands conflict, Argentinean patrols sometime passed within meters of SBS and SAS hides. CIVILIAN SKILLS SURVIVAL TECHNIQUES: As per his extensive military training, Paul is trained to survive in a multitude of situations, under incredible duress. He is also able to extend his knowledge of survival techniques in order to keep a large group of people alive. CRAFTING: Paul is also a master improviser, this gives him the ability to use his vast intelligence in order to be able to create different tools and utensils for himself and those around him, using nothing but the basic components either found or created. DRIVING: Paul is an incredibly capable driver, having driven a diverse range of vehicles during his time in the Special Boat Service, as well as during his civilian life. LINGUISTICS: During his time within the Special Boat Service, Paul was trained to speak 3 different languages alongside English, which were Spanish, French and German. MAP READING: Due to his military background, Paul is extremely capable of reading a map precisely. INFLUENCE: Paul is able to use all of his qualities in order to manipulate people to get what he wants. [OOC: This includes characters with lower stats in Charisma and Intelligence] STATS
PSYCHOLOGY ENTJ-A PERSONALITY TYPE SUMMARY: ENTJs are natural-born leaders. People with this personality type embody the gifts of charisma and confidence, and project authority in a way that draws crowds together behind a common goal. But unlike their Feeling (F) counterpart, ENTJs are characterized by an often ruthless level of rationality, using their drive, determination and sharp minds to achieve whatever end they've set for themselves. Perhaps it is best that they make up only three percent of the population, lest they overwhelm the more timid and sensitive personality types that make up much of the rest of the world – but we have ENTJs to thank for many of the businesses and institutions we take for granted every day. STRENGTHS EFFICIENT: ENTJs see inefficiency not just as a problem in its own right, but as something that pulls time and energy away from all their future goals, an elaborate sabotage consisting of irrationality and laziness. People with the ENTJ personality type will root out such behavior wherever they go. ENERGETIC: Rather than finding this process taxing ENTJs are energized by it, genuinely enjoying leading their teams forward as they implement their plans and goals. SELF-CONFIDENT: ENTJs couldn't do this if they were plagued by self-doubt – they trust their abilities, make known their opinions, and believe in their capacities as leaders. STRONG-WILLED: Nor do they give up when the going gets tough – ENTJ personalities strive to achieve their goals, but really nothing is quite as satisfying to them as rising to the challenge of each obstacle in their run to the finish line. STRATEGIC THINKER: ENTJs exemplify the difference between moment-to-moment crisis management and navigating the challenges and steps of a bigger plan, and are known for examining every angle of a problem and not just resolving momentary issues, but moving the whole project forward with their solutions. CHARISMATIC & INSPIRING: These qualities combine to create individuals who are able to inspire and invigorate others, who people actually want to be their leaders, and this in turn helps ENTJs to accomplish their often ambitious goals that could never be finished alone. WEAKNESSES STUBBORN & DOMINANT: Sometimes all this confidence and willpower can go too far, and ENTJs are all too capable of digging in their heels, trying to win every single debate and pushing their vision, and theirs alone. INTOLERANT: People with the ENTJ personality type are notoriously unsupportive of any idea that distracts from their primary goals, and even more so of ideas based on emotional considerations. ENTJs won't hesitate a second to make that fact clear to those around them. ARROGANT: ENTJ personalities respect quick thoughts and firm convictions, their own qualities, and look down on those who don't match up. This relationship is a challenge for most other personality types who are perhaps not timid in their own right, but will seem so beside overbearing ENTJs. EMOTIONALLY DETACHED: All this bluster, alongside the assumed supremacy of rationalism, makes ENTJs distant from their own emotional expression and sometimes downright scornful of others'. People with this personality type often trample others' feelings, inadvertently hurting their partners and friends, especially in emotionally charged situations. RUTHLESS: Their obsession with efficiency and unwavering belief in the merits of rationalism, especially professionally, makes ENTJs incredibly insensitive in pursuing their goals, dismissing personal circumstances, sensitivities, and preferences as irrational and irrelevant. FRIENDSHIPS SUMMARY: As in most aspects of their lives, in friendship ENTJs seek personal growth and inspiration, and they often have a plan for how to accomplish it. Friendships of circumstance, built on things like shared routines, are not ENTJs' preferred method – rather, they pursue their friends, seek out individuals who share their passion for deep, meaningful discussions, and who enjoy learning and development as much as they do. It is not always easy to be ENTJs' friends – they demand a lot from these relationships – but they pay a great deal of attention to their friendships, and it is unlikely that it will ever feel stagnant. CONCLUSION SUMMARY: ENTJs' intelligence, strong will and logical reasoning skills are a force to be reckoned with. Be it a minor obstacle or a seemingly impossible task, ENTJs will find a way – or make one. This fearsome determination and intellect allow ENTJs to overcome many challenges. Yet ENTJs can be easily tripped up in areas where careful and rational thinking is more of a liability than an asset. Whether it is finding (or keeping) a partner, connecting with other people, reaching dazzling heights on the career ladder or forcing themselves to relax, ENTJs need to put in a conscious effort to develop their weaker traits and additional skills. FRIENDSHIPS CRAIG FALCONER COMPATRIOT, CONFRERE, "BROTHER": Craig and Paul have known each other for a hell of a long time. They originally met in Afghanistan in 2008, when the British Goverment deployed the Special Boat Service M-Squadron alongside the Special Air Service. The two were in the same 8-man Strike Team, and the pair have been deployed together on many occasions since, further solidifying their friendship. The pair of them were both deployed to Green Bay, Wisconsin at the very beginning of the outbreak, to give aid and to conduct covert operations in order to try and kill off all of the original infected before the infection spread further, but the infection spread faster than anyone could have predicted, and thus their final Joint SBS/SAS Operation was in fact a failure. He was born in Hereford, Herefordshire, in the United Kingdom. During his childhood, he always aspired to be a soldier, but not even he could have even dreamt of what he would become. During his Infant and Junior School years, he was always giving 110% in his classes, played sports, he was just a bright and active child, and was everything his parents could have hoped for. Throughout Secondary School, he was always reaching the upper echelons grades-wise, and was always on course to achieve an incredible set of grades, especially for the profession he wished to go into. Once his time in Secondary School was over, he had achieved the following grades:
After completing Secondary School, and gaining the impressive set of credentials he had done, he moved onto the next step of his education; A Levels. These would be the qualifications that would set Paul up for the career in HM Royal Navy that he had always dreamed of. By this point, Paul was adamant in his mindset that he wished to be a Sniper in the Royal Marines. When it came down to choosing his A Levels, he chose 5. Product Design; An Engineering based A Level that required problem solving thinking, in order to be able to manufacture a product as best as possible with the resources available. Maths; Maths was Paul's favourite subject, and allowed him to flourish as a person, as well as a student, given his love for the topic. Further Maths; This was Paul's way of showing himself, his peers and his teachers how much he loved maths, and how well he wanted to do in the subject. BTEC Level 3 Engineering; A course that would show that he had an eye for detail, given the heavy scrutiny in which the BTEC qualifications are awarded, and was also equivalent to several A-Levels. Finally, Psychology. Psychology was more of a hobby for Paul than a genuine career proposition, and he felt it'd help him in whatever career path he ended up on. 2 years on, and Paul had completed all of his A Level qualifications, gaining the following credentials:
Once he had completed his A-Levels, he immediately headed for his local Armed Forces Careers Office, or AFCO, to discuss his options and what he wanted to do. He was still adamant that he wished to be a Sniper in the Royal Marines, they were stunned at how this lad, who had all of the nous under the sun for his age, and firstly he wanted to be in the Royal Marines, and secondly he wanted to be a Sniper in the Royal Marines. They admired the lad a lot, and throughout the grueling selection process, kept a close eye on Paul, and at each stage of the process, he completely blew the instructors away, passing through each section with flying colours. At which point, it became very clear that Paul was going to be one of the more incredible Marines of his generation. Once he had been inducted into the Royal Marines, and had been given the appropriate training, he was deployed for service in 2005, to Afghanistan. It was an environment in which Paul had never experienced. The weather was one extreme to another, he also found the prone position in which he had to remain in for nearly days on end was extremely difficult to hold through sandstorms and other such extreme weather. Nevertheless, he persevered through it, and when it came to the end of his service in Afghanistan, he had totted a kill count of 37, in a period of 9 months, not the most impressive kill-count, but one in which he would strive to improve next time around. June, 2006. He was assigned to overwatch on a raid on a Taliban meeting, including several high-ranking members of the Taliban. The air was thick, there was no breeze, something Paul rarely got, but definitely appreciated, as he lay in wait for the raid to take place. However, there was no raid. As the Royal Marines Commandos lined up outside of the door, there were ambushed, and were forced to flee to a nearby building. Paul, as per his role, immediately started firing upon the insurgents who had ambushed the squad, killing several of them. He packed up his things, and told his spotter to stay on overwatch. As he headed down to the group, he asked for the P.O.A, whilst still under heavy fire. Paul was told that all P.O.As had gone out of the window, and it was at that moment, he knew what to do. He immediately reached to his L129a1 Rifle, and gained his bearings. He told the squad that they wouldn't make it out if they headed out in single file. So it was settled, the 4 man squad, would exit the building in twos on either side, whilst Paul headed out of the front door. Before they all exited, Paul tossed an L84 White Phosphorous Smoke Grenade through the door, and allowed the area to smoke out before exiting. As he exited, he switched his telescopic scope to a thermal optic, and proceeded to eliminate 3 more Taliban through the thick smoke. Once they had all exited, they re-converged at the target building, and all looked along to Paul for the new plan. The plan was simple, Paul would breach and clear the room entirely, acquiring whatever intelligence he could from whatever documents were in the room itself, whilst the team of 4 outside called for an exfiltration, and kept the area secure. Once Paul was in, he went through specific procedure, firing two rounds into one target, before switching to the next, killing two of the Taliban inside. The last of the trio in the room fired upon Paul, shooting straight through his rifle, improvising, he tossed the rifle back across to the Taliban with his right hand, and drew an L109a1 High Explosive Grenade, pulling the pin and rolling it under the table, away from himself, but towards the Taliban stood to his 2 o'clock. Once the grenade had been set, and tossed, Paul immediately headed for the door. Receiving a graze along the back of his right leg, as per the Taliban's second shot. Once he was out of the building, and the others had taken steps away from the building to clear the blast radius, the grenade detonated, killing the man inside, and destroying the room entirely. Once the exfil arrived, Paul climbed on board, and didn't speak another word about the mission. In May, 2007, it was documented that an SBS team killed Taliban Leader Mullah Dadullah, in a raid during a meeting with several associates. However, Paul was one of 4 Royal Marines Commandos assigned to the raid, to provide support to the SBS team conducting the raid. Due to a lack of specification during communications, when Paul was told to take a target, he set his sights over Mullah Dadullah, not realising the true extent of the target he had chosen. And once the SBS breached the room and entered, Paul immediately took the shot, killing Mullah Dadullah from over 863m away. This was the final time he would be deployed as a Royal Marines Commando, and during his time as an RMC, he had a total kill-count of 108. It was after this, that his military career really took a step up. After returning to the UK, post assassination of Mullah Dadullah, he was ordered to RM Poole. A place in which Paul had always aspired to be based, for one reason, and one reason only. The Special Boat Service. Once there, he met with the Captain-General of the Special Boat Service, the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Phillip. And it was discussed with him, the Admiral of the Fleet Lord Boyce and the 4 Squadron Leaders of the Special Boat Service, as to Paul's credentials, both military and non-military, to establish whether or not he would succeed as a serviceman in the Special Boat Service. They all agreed that Paul would be put through the Special Boat Service selection program, so that they could identify where Paul's strengths and weaknesses lied. A few months down the line, Paul had conquered every challenge that they had put in front of him, surpassing every boundary even he thought he had, however, of all of the achievements within his lifetime, this was his most cherished, he was finally a member of the Special Boat Service, as a member of M-Squadron. His first major deployment within M-Squadron of the Special Boat Service, was during Operation Diesel in 2009. Paul had spent the last year or so bouncing between Afghanistan and Iraq, conducting covert operations, and was even part of the team that assassinated the then Taliban Leader Mullah Abdul Matin, and one of his sub-commanders, Mullah Karim Agha. During Operation Diesel, 4 drug factories ran by the Taliban were seized, finding amounts of heroin and opium worth £50,000,000. Throughout the entire operation, Paul was part of the SBS team that were giving support to the Royal Marines 42 Commando unit. Fast forwarding a few years, Paul had endured a 12 year military career. Spanning the Royal Marines, to being a Royal Marines Commando, to now being a Captain in the Special Boat Service, he'd married to an Andrea Peters, and they'd had a son, Andrew McCormack, after Paul's father. It was on Andrew's 7th birthday that everything changed. Paul received a call at 3am, from the Admiral of the Fleet, telling him that a situation had come up and that Paul was needed to be deployed immediately. It took Paul less than 20 minutes to travel to RM Poole, after having said his farewells to his wife and son, wishing him a happy birthday. Once at RM Poole and fitted with his gear and weaponry, he was flown via RAF Chinook to Clyde, where he linked up with the rest of the Special Boat Service and Special Air Service personnel who were also taking part in the mission, on board HMS Vengeance, a British Royal Navy Submarine. The teams were shown footage of what had happened in Green Bay, and much to their surprise and slight anxiety, they were told that that was where they would be headed. And sure enough they were deployed later that day via Lockheed C-130 Hercules. The teams took HALO and HAHO insertions into the surrounding areas of Green Bay, and would head into Green Bay on foot, and that is where all official records of Paul's existence end.
