Ouch. Of course it's right before finals. Kinda like I just went through a whole raft of repairs on my car.... just after paying it off finally. |

One of the first things I did once I had a bit of surplus money was to buy a cheapish backup-computer, just in case my old one suddenly broke down (which seemed inevitable, but surprisingly hasn't happened yet, even now -- it just keeps forgetting the current date when I start it up). Of course if all your work and the programs you need are on the old one that wouldn't even help much. I finally got a shiny new computer last week, and I've been transferring data and (re)installing programs since.... |

"do not like change" now there's a malady of humanity summed up in four words for you. Though at the same time reservations are a good thing - As surely as change happens there is no surety that any change is going to be one for the better or worse (and it can be both, for two different people- or sometimes even an individual). But it cannot be stopped. Anymore than one can refuse to age (well, okay so there's one other option technically but it's not a good one for anyone here at the very least). |

Sounds like you're talking about laptops and not real computers in the first place ![]() Ah.. the good old days, when a computer took up a whole room, and you need another for the cooling equipment, and a team to operate it.... My new computer is actually bigger than my old one, both wider and higher. The case was made with better ventilation in mind. I think it's a pretty popular case, because it has a lot of fans (front, top and back)

LOL i guess that's great as long as they don't ask for autographs yeah, tech advancements have been non-stop, but i think their usefulness and practicality have been lost XD at least in more recent years (going from room size calculator to a portable do-it-all machine was good enough) and yeah... i'd actually rather a desktop, but laptops were made for their portability, and that's what i needs :Y |

You could get something like this. Old-looking new. I first saw the concept where someone did a personal build by gutting a commodore 64 and building their own computer inside the shell. But apparently it's gone mainstream now. |

hey, if that means it's compatible with the new stuff and yet totally outlasts it because it was originally built to do so...that's where i am B' but now, they make new things to look old to pass them off as new so they break down in a year and then make you get a "new" one =.=; i do not condone planned obsolescence...it's everywhere T_T heck, i still have a computer from before windows was much use...or a mouse, for that matter...it still runs like new, except for the fact the sound is temperamental and the floppy doesn't save data anymore (so that makes it impossible to transfer data to present day computers) but you can still play games (like Wolfenstien 3D) and write documents and whatnot |

I plan once all the online everything and what-not has moved too far past the slowing 'board of this computer to keep it as a modern-day typewriter, if you will. |

She'll probably be fine if we just reboot her; that's how it usually goes -- unexpected crash, reboot, all fine.. Now, where's that reboot button? |
