I'm both very glad, and the tiniest bit sorry I missed the infestation.

And towr, I totally copied your comment into my notes for the paper (as a quick reference for what authors and where specifically to look for sources to use), if that's all right.

You can always turn your computer's date back (or forward) to April Fool's if the latter sentiment ever outweighs the former.

Of course. Though wikipedia is probably much more informative :P Quite interesting to read up on the whole history of the Arthur legend, and the speculation about possible historical bases for the character.
What's also kind of funny, is that I'm currently reading a book about the history of the 'apocalypse meme', and just today reached a part where it also mentioned Arthur (who as you might recall is said to one day return as king and save his people, etc.)

So...I just had a rather nasty scare today.

I heard a screech of brakes and looked out, and there's a car in the ditch on the side of the road, and my brother's lying in the grass a little ways away, and his bike about 20 feet further on. Apparently he was coming down the hill from the development behind our house and crossing to the development across the road, but there was a car coming and he was going to fast to stop. The driver braked hard, but still hit him, which threw my brother and spun out the car.

Thankfully- thank God- my brother looks to have escaped without serious injury- mildly nasty scrapes all along his arms and legs, but no head injuries or broken bones. Mom's taken him to the emergency room though to get checked, just in case.
The driver's okay. His car is going to need towed, and a new tire, I think he said. The bike took the worst of it- it's completely unusable (both brake cords snapped, front light smashed, one tire arm bent back over the frame, and the gear wheel all out of shape).

I just...I don't know. I'm still feeling a little shaky in my stomach from it all. I just needed to tell someone. :(

*is hugged* Thank you.

Yeah- definitely very fortunate. He ended up fine, and didn't even need stitches for his one knee (stayed home from school and slept a fair amount of the day today, though).

So glad he came out in one piece! That's way more exciting (and terrifying) than my near-miss with a falling tree branch yesterday (heavy snow piled on already leafing/growing trees. Lots of fallen limbs that day).

... sorry again for my sporadicism. End of the semester I'm finding a need for a lot more writing then I expected.
Speaking of which. It's interesting towr (and helpful) that you pointed me to Geoffrey of Monmouth. Because not only does he seam to present his history as actual history, but that several sources I've found referencing him lend credence to a lot of what he says. So really it's as much the fact that their history and legend were one and the same. Which makes for a useful wrinkle to my paper all on it's own.

There are some critics of Geoffrey of Monmouth in his time. For example (via wikipedia)
Quote:

William of Newburgh's late-12th-century comment that Geoffrey "made up" his narrative, perhaps through an "inordinate love of lying".

I just love that last part.

It's a small part of a larger image: http://www.newscientist.com/blogs/shortsharpscience/2012/06/psychedelic-nano-art-in-oils-a.html
I like the whole image, but it didn't look as good when scaled to avatar size. The detail reminds me a bit of a satellite image (mountains ranges, lakes), except for the toxic colors.

....o.0 Actually, I think I like the bit you took for your avatar better than the whole painting. Too much psychedelic...

Well, it's not quite official yet, but I just got done signing all the paperwork stuff for my full-time job. B) It'll be for at least one year, probably two, and I'm already familiar with the people and work, since I've worked there part-time before.
Happy Lyssa is happy. ^_^
