Not when it's killing my flowers, it isn't It's gone now, though (thankfully), and the temperature's mostly back up to normal (if spring can even be said to have a normal temperature).

Always scary how the end of the semester creeps up, even after so many. Especially fun as all of my classes this semester are invested in these ridiculous big 'project' things. Why can't I just write a 5-page paper like a normal person?? |

I know a bunch of math majors (my brothers and father) that would debate this. XD What sort of big project things? *is curious* There's a bit of a difference between, say, making a computer program, putting together a sample high school curriculum, and writing a 23-page thesis paper. |

projects are usually much more fun than papers (unless a paper IS the project) you actually get to DO something practical with your knowledge |

Depends.... some projects are just a huge amount of research followed by a presentation.... I'd do a paper over those any day of the week. Though I do agree most projects are better ![]() It's actually kinda weird this semester.... I think the majority of my finals are tests, instead of projects or papers. (Also, I second Ely's question about what kind of projects) |

In my experience any project of a practical kind always came with "and write an X page paper about what you've done" I prefer simple exams. So much easier and less work. |

exams are only easier and less work if they are as straightforward as you'd expect...i've run into too many teachers who love to ask questions in the most unintelligible way and then the answers (if multiple choice) don't even line up with the overall subject of the question in such cases it's more of a headache trying to answer stuff on the spot with little sleep, maximum stress, a room full of stress induced heat producing peers and no open windows or proper air circulation---- i'd rather have 2 weeks to calmly do what i need to do at my own pace, but that's just me... |

In this case one is a group presentation project about sort of 'things to know' about dealing with another culture (ours is the 'general' culture of Norway) as Americans, I guess. So we have to talk, play games or otherwise present for half an hour to the rest of the class. Not horrible but I'm not great collaborating and I HATE getting up in front of people. Then I have a project that is far more massive in scope than it seems (it requires something like 20-pages worth of researched text, sort of?) and is really nebulous creating a "Landscape Project" in this online program called Evernote with tabs about different things relating to this 'landscape' that I picked to research (turns out the south end of Tanzania does not have a lot printed about it unless you get into really specific deep scholarly sources, that to get the kind of overview information that I think she wants me to have involve combing through several hundred pages of very dry text) and then hoping the way I'm putting everything together is sort of what she's thinking because her descriptions of assignments change every time. The 15-page research paper is my own doing, but it's still another case of combing through hundreds of pages of source material which is a mind-numbing time consideration It's at least a sort-of picked topic. Looking at IQ testing and racial bias related thereunto.Just discovered one of my online classes has a 6-7 page paper that will also require an associated powerpoint presentation (managed to avoid using ppt since 2008, don't even have it on my computer so that's fun) about one of the pre-selected topics within East Asian culture. I think the biggest annoyance is how unsure I am of what some of those professors are looking for in these projects. Enough advance notice that I'm nothing like as flat out angry as I was with the final for that one class last semester but it means I literally am not even paying attention to final exams which I know at least two of those classes have because I'm trying not to stall out my brain as it attempts to barrel down 10 tracks at once. |

ouch...a full plate indeed...i HATE non-specific projects, they tell you some bs excuse about "oh but it's open for you to use your own creativityorsomeothernosensehere" but what they REALLY mean is "i was too lazy to come up with something that makes sense, so YOU have to clean up my mess for me and make your own assignment 'cause i have no idea what i really want from you" that ALWAys turns out SO well ;>.> on the bright side, you can usually get away with some half-baked junk and they'll accept it as long as it's pretty and sensical....and usually the rest of the class ends up with something closer to nothing...if you're in a group, spew out any ideas even if they are stupid sounding and make sure the rest of the group does the same, then gather the best aspects of each idea and combine it into one, this it often the best options (especially with undefined projects) -hugs dark- hang in there, buddy! >.< --- if you don't have powerpoint, there's a thing online called "prezi"...it's kind of a free online way to make a presentation, you might want to ask your teacher if it's accepted Edited by Snofox Kari, Apr 17 2016, 03:25 PM.

openoffice/libreoffice can generate a decent .ppt, I think, if that's what you really need. In any case, good luck. |

T'anks folks. Yeah, the History professor just recently e-mailed me with some names things to look into that I haven't seen any note of so far in my study of my region in question so... That'll be fun. XP Otherwise, sloggin' along. How's everybody else' end of semester? At least I think the weather is on the 'not gonna snow for awhile' side of spring here... |
