been kinda sluggish here...but at least the weather IS improving, though hopefully it won't spike and jump straight into summer overnight XD

currently trying to use game maker program as substitute for visual basic so i can modify some of my old programs from scratch...pretty challenging lol

i'm glad to know that is at least one problem I know I don't have. :)

Sounds ... fun? Is there a reason WHY you're doing it that way?

personal project :D definitely fun

i kinda botched my opportunity to get visual basic for free...and i REALLY want to edit some of the little programs i made in school...and since my computer animation class turned into a game design class and making a game is basically the same as making a program because it IS a program, then i have a way to revamp my old programs ^_^

the only problem is figuring out how to structure it as some of the syntax and terms are a tad different...and of course the structure of the tools since they serve different main purposes, but figuring that out is the fun part!

You sound like my dad, with the whole playing around with programs bit :P Good luck with that, though. ^_^

I almost feel as though it's jumped straight to summer up here, though the temperature's supposed to drop back to the 60s next week. XD

warmest it got here was low 70s a few days ago, now it went back to 50s and lower >.< brrr

the weather just can't seem to make up its mind these days lol

Sounds like a fun project Snofox! What kinds of programs are you trying to revamp?

i made a simple little text decoder, but it was a rush job so the look of it is just a small square with smaller text boxes in it

Mostly what i want to do is make the size flexible, but once i remake it i can probably add more fun features

I kind of wish I knew enough about programming to actually get into what you're talking about, but I also am a bit glad that I am blissfully ignorant.

it's really not as bad as it sounds, mostly just a logic puzzle: you have an object, you tell it to do stuff under certain conditions

the conditions are the easy part and usually telling it to do small tasks is pretty easy too...like lets say you have a button and you want it to show a message when it is clicked

name the button, describe the action (when it's clicked), then tell it to show a message, done

but when you get into slightly more intricate commands like taking a text input and converting each character into another character, that throws me for a loop! (< programming humor lol)

in this case a "for" loop which i still haven't quite gotten the hang of... and the syntax is slightly different in game maker while visual basic was simpler...so i'm basically relearning as i go along

managed to get it to do SOMEthing, but it doesn't have the desired effect ._.; finding what went wrong is always the fun part

it's like those sliding puzzles where you have one blank space and you need to slide the pieces around to finally construct the image and you have that ONE part that goes in the opposite corner while everything else is in place.....you have to basically undo everything in order to correct it X)

sometimes, you just have to break things to make them work :'D (and take lots of breaks, cuz it can be a mental strain as well as time consuming to point of possible addiction, kind of)

Sounds like an interesting project- some of the concepts you mentioned sound like things I've done with Java / C, but I have no idea how those would be implemented in visual basic or game maker (neither of which I've used before XD). Welp, good luck, and try not to beat yourself too hard against it!

On another note, finally done with finals!! Actually going to have free time to work on my own projects now ^_^

the logic would definitely be the same, just the wording of the commands tat gets a bit tedious at times

Gratz on finals! what projects you doing?

Still got a few pages of my big paper to hammer out, and a six page 'reflection paper' after that with two finals (one each monday and tuesday) But with the big paper "mostly" done, the end feels in sight finally!

It has not been fun for the wife either these past some days XP Hopefully being done will help there too.

You can do it Dark!

Well, the biggest project planned is making a MUD (text based game). Also have a lot of books to read and things to watch.

Hang in there, Dark! o.o so much stress is no fun Dx but it sounds like it'll all be over soon lol don't let it get in the way of what's really important, though :3
