Maybe instead of voting, we should just pick representatives and presidents at random. At least it mostly bypasses the problem that anyone that wants to wield power shouldn't get their hands on it. |

Ah, if only we could get someone who wasn't trying so hard to get the job.... In other news, How is everyone? I'm mostly enjoying my semester in Taiwan (certainly, being a bit more distant from the insanity of the elections back home has been nice). The weather is finally cooling to almost comfortable. School here is weird for me. All of my classes are only held once a week, for a three-hour block. |

Well personally, not too bad, I guess. Just a bit depressed at the state of the world and how much worse the state of the world will be when my nieces and nephews are grown up and have to deal with the shit previous generations have heaped upon them. |

I'm doing pretty well. Have been mostly avoiding anything political, so really not much going on for me. I'm missing the warmer weather, though, now that the temperatures are regularly below freezing in the mornings. I hated having a three-hour, once-a-week class the one time it happened in college. Although to be fair, part of the reason was because it was a 6-9pm class...

So one of my classes, about environmental architecture is in English, (well, the lecture is. Slides are mostly Chinese now, though they used to be in Japanese) because the professor's Chinese is even worse. And I have no syllabus... Near as I can tell he just cherry-picks pictures he has of buildings from different parts of the world and says "hey, look at this cool picture. This, this one is a little different from that one, from another people that live nearby..." And having just turned in my second paper for the class today, I still have NO idea what he wants (zero feedback on the first report, to date). It's an interesting experience, to say the least. |

Nobody around here celebrates it, so we almost missed it- went for Ham&Turkey sandwiches at Subway (because that was the most 'thanksgiving-y' thing we could find) and had a footlong to myself. And I think I get the class a little by now? At first the way he would just show pictures and say effectively 'this is a place, like that last picture place, but also different' I did not follow at ALL but I sorta get it? Not in any way I could think to explain but... Of course, still don't know how I was graded on the first paper, so I'm still guessing. Thanks for the support! |

Went caroling with our church sunday school this evening. Very lively, and lots of fun. The wind was absolutely freezing, though. XD

Had a scare this morning- a car crashed into the telephone pole in front of our house. The driver was unconscious, and they had to disassemble part of the car to get her out. The pole itself cracked and started slowly leaning towards our driveway. So, the road by our house was completely blocked off for about six hours, first for the ambulance/fire truck/etc, and then for the repair crew putting up a new telephone pole.Felt bad for the repair crew, too, since the wind chill was around -8, and it snowed for part of the time.

Holy crap! Glad to hear you and yours are okay. I totally had a surreal moment a couple days ago. I checked one of my regular webcomics a few days late. First I was a little surprised there wasn't a new page, then I noticed there was an author announcement dated later than the last page just under it (where usually old thread titles are) and... It was his wife saying that he'd had a heart attack in the interim, and didn't make it. Then went on to say that he'd written out the rest of the story for the comic and knowing he'd want it out there, she is going to find some way to put the rest out to his readers. ... I just, did not know really how to feel. I didn't know him personally, I wasn't even one of the really involved readers/visitors to his site. But as she talked about how much love and attention he put into his comic, constantly checking what his readers were saying, where and when they were getting on and just being involved on that personal level with the whole thing it was... Like I said, very surreal. |

Merry Christmas. And a happy new year. Hopefully it'll be a little less surreal than this year, but I'm afraid that'll be wasted hope.. Maybe I should watch less news. I can't change any off it, and it just makes me anxious and depressed. Where's an alien invasion when you need it. |

Merry Christmas! Happy Holidays and all wishes for the best to you and yours. I was so glad not being IN the states through the election. But I feel like the dissociation made it a bit less real, and there's still some point when the reality is going to hit me... Not looking forward to it. |
