I don't like XP - it was great while it lasted, but I've moved on to bigger and better things. Huh, my Vista SP1 can do more than XP Pro ever could...
You must have quite a good computer then, if you can get that resource hog to do anything. I'm sticking with XP, since I don't have the money for a new computer. The next version of windows is much better, or so I'm told.
But I don't think it will stop me from switching to Ubuntu when I next buy a computer. I can spend that hundred bucks on better things than a software license. And I'm not much of a gamer, so it makes little difference for me. (And it's a more convenient environment for programming in my experience anyway.)

Amen to that, except that for me, I'd like a UNIX machine, myself. I'm not very fond of Linux/Ubuntu (and, heaven help us, Mac OS). But Vista is more affordable than any of the previous mentions, so I'm happy - especially since there's a pile of open-source stuff for Windows that I use (OpenOffice.org 3.0, Notepad++, Dev-(anything), Firefox, Audacity, Paint.NET, etc., etc.).

Vista is great except for one thing...you need 1 GB of RAM just for the OS. But, since I'm not a monster gamer, the 3 GB on my machine is plenty for me. What's really nice are the dual processors - I can run all my code-editing/image-editing/word-processing programs at the same time.

Um...Java is a programming language (like C++ is a programming language, or Fortran). Vista is an operating system (i.e: Linux, UNIX, Mac OS, Solaris). And Vista is fairly recent; it was released to the general public in '07.

But the newest version of Windows, Windows 7, is coming out sometime between July 1st this year and June 30th of next year...

i knew what they were...i just get names mixed (hey i was a little kid)

and if it was '07...then that is what i consider old...as in not w/in the last two years

so in other words you have confirmed what i have thought

Forgive me for thinking that the last two years isn't that long ago. I seem to think it's not all that much of my life...I hope this isn't what getting old(er) feels like...

Nah, in two years the difference is hardly a factor of two in computing power. And it takes at least that long for Microsoft to eliminate the worst bugs from their OS.

In the telcom world that difference is huge. Personal computing? Not nearly so much.

Actually, the major bugs in Vista were fixed less than a year after it came out...but that's funny nonetheless. I'm hoping they'll actually spend some time and do some better testing on Seven...but if not, oh well, I can always revert to Linux/UNIX/Solaris.

Hello!

Random things in my head right now- Yesterday was Eastern Orthodox Easter (Pascha)- which is why I haven't been on for a week. I've been busy... -_-

I'm creating a new language. I've got most of the grammar down- now for the vocabulary..... uh oh...

Meat and dairy taste very very very very good now... :P  :P  :P

I'm in the middle of creating my own language. So far, I've got grammatical structure, some vocab, and and alphabet.

Reminding me...I need to go back to my 'roots.xls' file.
