Ooh! I saw a split tongue once! I was like "Bet that hurt."Well, unless you keep bad company or are a class-A jerk, the only risk you should have for wearing earrings are when holding little ones who like to grab at everything while wearing dangle ones. I had once partially ripped out by my friend's baby when I was holdig her at church wearing these - thankfully they were hooks like that so they slid out the rest of the way and my ear closed up a few weeks later. Just make sure they have hooks and not stud backings.

Which could only mean it's that much more terrible when unleashed. "It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for." |

Everyone has a temper. The only difference is whether it's a good temper or a bad temper. Saying "X has a temper" is like saying "X has eyes" and doesn't say how good or bad. It's commonly misused - like "I could care less" to imply lack or care. OF COURSE YOU COULD CARE LESS, IT'S THAT YOU COULDN'T CARE LESS THAT MATTERS! OF COURSE YOU HAVE A TEMPER - GOD HAS A TEMPER, IS IT A GOOD TEMPER OR A BAD TEMPER??? Sorry. Pet peeve. And now I'm not even sure "temper" is a word anymore... =_= |

temp, temper, tempest I suppose a bad temper can be a bit like a tempest, come to think of it.. Surely as a proponent of sarcasm you shouldn't have a problem with people meaning the opposite of what they say. I think it does work on several levels though. For example if someone was implying you didn't care, then saying "I could care less" suggests that you do care a little, but if they push it you might drop it entirely. Or it can be taken as a way you might deal with a problem. So say, for example, someone's cat is stuck up a tree and you perceive that as a problem you need to deal with, then you could put out a saucer of milk, or you could climb up the tree, or you could call the fire department, or you could care less (because as we all know, problems are only a problem if you care about them).

i agree with ya both..on different areas as for temper being assumed bad reminds me of manupulation being the same way...surely being manipulative doesn't always mean in a bad way (i know someone who manipulates situations to render a threat harmless )and in terms of caring less....i use both could and couldn't, depending on the situation...so i guess it can really go both ways just depends on yer meaning

... I already set off a debate on manipulation once here, so I'll leave it be. "Have you ever brutally murdered someone?" "What's considered brutal by one person may seem perfectly reasonable to someone else." "..." |

When they're just using it incorrectly vs a lovely sarcastic retort, yeah, I kinda do. If they use it properly, fine. But they DON'T.

I'm not entirely sure how I'm going to do this what with teaching Sunday School tomorrow (I mean, receiving church-going children and churning out pirate-talking pagans wouldnt' be good..) and just church in general.. but I am SO going to do it like every year I've known about it. Yar!
