David Eddings rocks. I think Sparhawk has to be one of my top favorite characters in all literature.

"If you laugh (Sparhawk), we're going to fight, so don't even think about it."
"Me?"

Or how about Silk and Belgarath in the Cave of the Gods...
"First you tell me to stay out of trouble, then you tell me to cross Polgara? You're inconsistent, Belgarath."
"I never claimed to be consistent."

But the funniest line in all of Eddings' books has to be...
"I wonder if he'll learn to fly...does bouncing count?"
"No."
"Then I guess he didn't learn in time."

Bruce Coville... Seems I've read some of his stuff before, but I don't recall what. <shrug>
He's written a lot of stuff, mostly sci-fi/fantasy for young kids. I don't think he's ever written anything for adults.

I liked the Unicorn Chronicles, but the third book didn't end on a 'finished' kind of note, so I'd guess there's more than that. Do you know, Feyna?

"Is that actual magic?" (or something like that)
"No, it's just gibberish."
"Who speaks that? The Gibbereens?"
(Stares)
"I probably said it wrong didn't I? Are they the Gibberees, or maybe Gibberanians?"
"... I love you."

Meh, you guys post too much. Me and my friend exchanged reading lists (books we recomend for the other person) and Percy Jackson and the Olimpions is on there, as well as the Ranger's Apprentice series. At the moment though I'm reading Fire Star by Chris D. Lacey.

... Sorry.

I think a lot of people here might like "Someplace To Be Flying" by Charles deLint.

Yay, another book for the waiting list. Although it might get bumped up if the library actually has it (doesn't have the first book in the Ranger's Apprentice series :'( ).

"Wait a minute, Grandfather. If you still had all that power, couldn't you have cleared a waterway to the edge of the fens?"
"Yes, I could have."
"Then why did you do that for Vordai?"
"Because she's been mistreated all her life, and it would be nice for someone to be kind to her for a change."
"Grandfather, you're a fraud - you pretend to be tough and cold on the outside, but on the inside you really do have a heart."
"Don't noise it about, Garion. One does have a reputation to maintain."

Or something like that.

Yes, the Belgariad, Malloreon, Elenium, and Tamuli are all great books. The best part is always when Eddings makes fun of overdramatization of stories, and all that.

Haven't read it. Know of it.

And Burroughs is before ALL of our times, really. But his books are about a fifteen minute read each, so I've gone through a few out of my parents collection - odd writing style and language, but decent (at least for the amount of time spent with the story).

How about Terry Brooks the Word and the Void (and no, I don't mean through "Genesis of Shannara, or the Shannara books just the 'Knight of the Word' trilogy)?
