I read the first 100 pages at the local book shop, but now I would like to finish the rest of the book.
And you can't read the rest of it in the shop? ;)
Maybe I'm just a terribly slow reader, but I can't imagine standing in a shop reading a book for over two hours. (Then again, at the prices of books in shops I can hardly imagine going there for books in the first place; I mostly buy them online based on reputation or authors, without having read a word of them.)

I mostly buy all my books out of used book stores, or get them as presents. And I tend not to buy a book unless I've read it before and like it (there are exceptions, though.)
I don't even read books off of reputation any more (not since I tired to start reading a Harry Potter book). <_<

Well, you have to be a bit selective on where the reputation comes from. The popularity of Harry Potter, and e.g. the Da Vinci Code, are the main reasons I don't read them. I'm elitist enough not to want to like the same thing everyone else does ;)

Has anyone ever heard of "A Song of Ice and Fire"?

I've only ever been big on Dragonlance and Forgotten realm before, so take this for what it's worth.. But that series... A song of fire and ice... Is... uhhhhmaaaaazzzzziiiiinnnng.

It truly is epic on the largest scale. And so incredibly real as well. Tons (literally, tons) of characters.. each one with their own characteristics and flaws.. and each one incredibly interesting.

It really brings something entirely new to the genre. It puts a very real spin on things, compared to what you get out of forgotten realms or DL.

George R. R. Martin. There have been talks of turning the story into an HBO series as well... which I find really exciting.

You're not worried that they'll butcher the story?

I'm always suspicious of adaptations. It's so disappointing when they foster the pretense of retelling a certain story, and then for no apparent reason it turns into something alien.

Yeah, I'm concerned. But not as concerned as I would be for most other adaptations.

The author has said before that he won't do a movie or trilogy because it just wouldn't work.

But a series on HBO just might be possible. Each season is around 12 hours or so. And HBO has a put out some of the most respectable shows on tv lately.

Hmmm, I'll have to check it out...
The book, that is. I don't really watch tv (other than the history channel and football)
Hopefully they have it at the library.

Read all the Ranger's Apprentice series -least the ones that are out in the US. Have to wait till the next one comes out. :'(

Reading right now The Lord of the Rings, not the actual book but a graphic novel version from the 1978 cartoon LOTR movie. A lucky find at a thrift store though it smells musty.

Meh, most all the books I read are good! Although Father of Dragons by L. B. Graham was real good. Most of the other books I've read recently are Star Wars (which are good, but not as good as some others). Except for One Good Knight, by Mercedes Lackey. That was good, too.
WoW. I have NEVER met anyone else who has read Binding of the Blade. Seems it's the ultimate rarity of rarities!

I just read Brsingr, by Chris Paolini...he finally wrote something worth reading! His first two books were, shall we say, less than palatable?

And I also read through Harry Potter...again...as well as Lord of the Rings...again. Seems I've been going on a re-read kick lately.

That is an amazing find!! How does it look?

Oh, and the reason I couldn't read all of Brisingr at the bookstore was that I ran out of time there. You know, something about the store closing. But, I did interlibrary loan it so I was able to read more.

Most of the books I read are inter-library loaned. I think the librarians have my number memorized by this point.

No kidding, you've read those too?! Wow, before you, I only knew of one other person who had read them besides me...
I started it the year the second book came out, had to wait a year for each subsequent book -_-
