Just finished reading 'A Concise History of Italy'. Now on 'La Bella Figura: A Field Guide to the Italian Mind'. Very interesting book.

Course work, or personal interest?

Personal interest. I'm reading my way through Europe, and Italy's one of my favorite countries.

Lyssa's in Italy, I'm in Russia. My parents gave me this awesome, gold leaf/engraved designs/leather-bound edition of War and Peace for my birthday, and I'm having a pleasant time revisiting the plot and characters. For once, I'm reading a story!

I just finished "Machine Man", by Max Barry.

And guess what, guess what! I'm mentioned in the acknowledgments at the end of the book! How awesome is that!
(It's because I commented a number of times on his 'rough draft' as he was posting it as a daily serial on his website. Obviously I'm only one name among a whole list of commenters, but still pretty cool.)

I am currently reading Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, as well as Huckleberry Finn (though that's for school)

Finn was okay.
Random Fact: I have read six, but only six, of the seven Harry Potter books.

I'm still dithering about getting into Goliath, the third in this awesome 1910s bit of alternate history fiction (it's the edge of WWI, only steampunk vs. 'darwinians')

I'm currently reading "The Age of Empathy"

And yesterday I got "the disappearing spoon" in the mail as a late arrival from a random gift-exchange in December; so I'll probably be reading that sometime this year. (Still have, literally, boxes of to-read books though.)

Currently reading "The Rise of the Great Powers 1648-1815". Almost done with that, and then I'll start "History of Europe 1500-1848" (the first one really only looks at that time period in terms of diplomatic relations and interactions between countries, unfortunately, so the second one looks quite a bit more interesting, since it covers social/cultural, economic, and military stuff as well).

Causes problems any time you try to look at only pieces of a story, generally.
