I dunno any German. Someone's gonna hafta translate for me... though I'm guessing what Elly said is lots of 'no's?
Sera said - I think I'm remembering this correctly - 'have fun, dimwits'...'and he makes three', in that order, respectively. Correct me if I'm wrong - it's been a few - read, 6 - years since I took any form of German (and even that wasn't much).

Morons, dimwits, idiots, it's a pretty widespread - great word.

True.

Oh, I will.

I've never taken it, but both my parents speak German so I know a few rules and words. I was originally going to take it, I decided learning of the main languages in the business world (English, Spanish, Mandarin, Arabic, and Japanese) made more sense and German isn't one of them. Both my parents laugh hard if talk about taking it instead of Spanish (like every one of my sibs has to date), too. "You think TWO genders are hard? Try 'he/she/IT' and get back to me."

I'm not gonna say Spanish is easy, but it's not that hard, either. Way more like English than German is - even though both are closely related to English. It's the Latin base. =) The two genders actually made it that much easier to learn - certainly easier than the English way of doing genders. :P

I generally console my lack of multilingualism with the fact that I am fluent in one of the hardest ones in the world. Which makes my mother (who speaks English, Spanish, German, Italian, and French) roll her eyes so hard I'm surprised they haven't stuck yet.

Germanic in base origin, but by now it's got so much Latin that I don't really think it can be classified as 'Germanic' anymore...

I only know fragments in Spanish, German, Russian, Japanese (though I'm working on that one right now) and little bits of others.

Mostly I just know enough to be able to identify what language someone is speaking by sound (well, European and several of the Asian languages anyway).

...Yeah, that was the extent of my German. My grandma, on the other hand, speaks clean and fluid German and has even lived there awhile. Funny how I never picked something up after all these years. A shame.

Yes, Kari, the one with Brad Pit?

Heh. Spanish. My prof in class today called on Me for "Conjugate that verb" and I got the conjugation PERFECT easily, even when others were screwing up. So she looks at Me and says:

"What did you just say?"
"No idea, ma'am."
"You have no idea?"
"No ma'am, I didn't memorize to vocab - but I got the conjugation right, didn't I?"
When she finally wrapped her head around it it was hilarious. XD Hey, she SAID we'd be concentrating on verb conjugation that class.

Germanic in base origin, but by now it's got so much Latin that I don't really think it can be classified as 'Germanic' anymore...
As far as vocabulary is concerned, one breakdown gives:
wikipedia

Langue d'oïl, including French and Old Norman: 28.3%
Latin, including modern scientific and technical Latin: 28.24%
Other Germanic languages (including words directly inherited from Old English; does not include Germanic words coming from the Germanic element in French, Latin or other Romance languages): 25%
Greek: 5.32%
No etymology given: 4.03%
Derived from proper names: 3.28%
All other languages: less than 1%

In the grammar the Germanic influence is greater, I think.

That would be more accurate, yes.

Verbs were always the focus in my Spanish classes.

Yeah, that's how it is for Spanish. But I can speak American Sign Language - it make communication so much quieter on my family, and so much easier to ask/tell people things without interrupting already-going conversation.
