you don't have to dive from out of water, you know? if you are swimming and you go under, that is also considered diving (deepsea divers do this)

Teh easiest way to get out of trouble is not not think about what you're doing till you've gotten out! It works wonderfully! 'Cause usually the easiest/best solutions are hazardous - best not to let Sense catch up or he makes you put on the breaks.

I think he forgot a comma. I'm pretty sure he means the ice formations are both comparatively mundane and yet at the same time cool (in the sense of neat/swell/marvelous/<approving word of the generation of your choice>, not in the sense of cold).
