Today is too important to let such a small triviality get in the way. I've only started two threads in the time I've been here, anyhow - I had to do it. HAPPY SINGLE AWARENESS DAY TO ALL OF YOU!!! (Referred to as SAD for obvious abbreviation reasons. snort, and "Valentine's Day" in most homes.) For those of you confused: Valentine's Day (According to the Urban Dictionary): - 1) Holiday maliciously created to make lonely people extremely depressed. 2) A corporate conspiracy conceived by candy makers, rose growers, lingerie stores, and jewelers to get people to spend money on junk. 3) The reason so many people are born in November. 4) Commercialistic holiday invented by corporations to make cash. Tries to create the image of love and when the day is really about money, greed and materialistic objects. It also makes single people feel miserable. Suicide rates are known to go up during this time of year. 5) A very sweet Hallmark-y day to tell the person you love how much they mean to you using 40$ heart shaped boxes of chocolate, 84$ 1 dozen bouquets of roses, and teddy bears. 6) A day that WAS named after a saint but sadly turned into what it is now. 7) The day before the best day in the world. Awesome, right? Oh darn, I'm single. I don't get anything overpriced from my temporary lover. I for one, I quite looking forward to "Half Off Chocolate Day" where all the stores are trying to get rid their failed Vday products. MY brother and his GF are going to celebrate it tomorrow - like any SMART people would do because you can get the SAME stuff for less than HALF because of a 6 hour difference to when other couples celebrate. Yes. I LOVE VALENTINE'S DAY!!! How about you guys?

Well, that's exactly how I feel. Or maybe I should quote your favorite rapper, snoopdog, who said "meaning ain't easy, but it's necessary, and I'm chasing cars like Tom chases Jerry." Me and my family were recently discussing how much of a bad idea it would be to let girls in America know about the Japanese culture of Valentine's Day. Girls give chocolate - (the rare Hanmei-choco for actual love interest) Giri-choco just for friends - on Valentine's. March 14th, every boy who received chocolate (of either variety) is socially obligated to respond with a comparatively greater dollar value of gift (this is called White Day) to EVERY girl from whom he received chocolate.

I don't think it would make much of a difference if they knew. I don't think they'd want the pressure. And I don't think the guys would buy into it, even if the girls wanted to. I can't say that's really the impression I got from the many valentine's/white-day episodes of anime I watched. The boys seem to get away fine with smaller gifts a lot of the time, and even to only those girls they're interested in. In fact, if they got any honmei chocolate, they can get in trouble with that girl if they give any to other girls. (Of course boys in anime always get in trouble with girls; so there is some bias there.) I don't think it'd be such a bad system though, for the boys. The pressure is mostly on the girls. As a boy you don't have to make the first move, just respond in kind; so that makes it a lot easier. Also, aren't we already the ones that are supposed to shower a girl with gifts and attention on valentine's? What would change, other than that it would be a month later, and that we get gifts as well?

(I don't know why - but the way that was worded just made me laugh so much, towr. ) That's what I was thinking. The girls wouldn't go for it - because there is no incentive since you men already are obligated to give us presents lest you face the silent treatment at best. I've actually always felt bad for you guys that way. towr (Of course boys in anime always get in trouble with girls; so there is some bias there.) Well, the other way around and it'd be considered sexist.
