I actually like politics. I considered being a politician for a while. ... Then I realized exactly how much work it would be to put makeup on two faces every morning. It's no wonder there are more guys than girls in there. |

I don't hate it, you need to know what the hecks going on in the world, stuff under what the news is and isn't telling ya, you know? Like Obama, giving the Muslims several billion dollars of the taxpayer's money. Y'know the usual crap he and his lackeys do. Edited by Elly the Orange Cake, Jun 17 2010, 07:07 PM.

"the Muslims"? Are you just dreaming up some conspiracies, are are you referring to anything in specific? Y'know, call me crazy, but I don't think you actually have any good reasons to hate Obama, other than that you parents didn't vote for him. It'd be nice if there were actual arguments for what, specifically, he is doing wrong and what, specifically, the preferred alternative is; with some added thought whether those alternatives are actually viable in the current geopolitical and economic climate. The Nobel committee was going a bit overboard giving him the peace prize just for being elected; but he has improved America's image a hundredfold. |

i think the only problem at the moment, is that he has good ideas, but he's not strong enough to fight off the biased critics and defend what he believes in :/ he's still pretty new with it and he just wants to make everyone happy (this in itself can become a problem that may lead to the death of most his good plans) |

"You can please some of the people most of the time, or most of the people some of the time" In practical application, it's actually even worse than that, but still it's a decent concise description. |

Hah, I won't deny that, towr; I see a lot of it. But you have to admit that by the same token a lot of people don't have any good reasons to not hate him other than that same stated reason. I find few people who actively oppose or support can state an argument that accurately or solidly back their position. There are some good points for each side, to be sure, but it all depends where you look. (I can find places where it says the Holocaust never happened, after all.) And that's pretty much the case every time, no matter how great or terrible a president is, so that kinda doesn't help either way. Eh, actually, one of my issues with the man is that he's hurting our image - at least in most of our eyes. Maybe not in huge ways, but little things that embarrass us [two such examples being the Prime Minister gift exchange and the bowing fail with Japan] are really "*facepalm*" material. Which wouldn't be so bad and I'd chalk up to n00b status if he didn't reek disrespect about the country; but as I'm not part of the world outside America and only know what things look like inside, I'd be curious to know how's he's improving it in your eyes. =) |

I'll admit many people love him for no particularly good reason, just as others hate him for no particularly good reason. But there doesn't need to be a reason to not-hate or not-love him; that follows from the absence of a reason to do the opposite. So I suppose indifference would make the most sense. That's a good question. I'm afraid part of it may simply be that he's not George Bush (and if you want to talk about embarrassing gaffes, George is King). And none of the presidential candidates was less like George Bush that Obama, not even Hillary. And of course it helps that the foreign policy consists of less weapons-rattling; in general, America just seem friendlier and saner. In any case, whatever the reason, you can see in this BBC world service poll that the US's approval rating in the world has shot up over the last few years after hitting a low point in 2007. |

Until given a reason otherwise, yep. Makes things a whole lot easier in a political landmine of people, too, doing things on a play by play basis. Though presidential humor is still great - no matter who said president is. Well, that's something at least if he's helping out the image. I'll give the man that; he knows how to schmooze. One things that people are getting really ticked off with him about is the oil spill, though. If he'd handle that one correctly he could get some major brownie points; but starting committees and not letting the experts use the explosives when we're losing 600,000 gallons in oil a day is starting to make me twitch. Gas prices are already going up. (Where I am, at least) |

You may like this political cartoon then. Although I doubt throwing explosives at it willy-nilly will do much good, and it could easily make it worse. It's not a suggestion I had heard of before, but then I haven't followed it very closely. And of course on the one hand, you'd have this problem regardless of which political figurehead is in office, because they simply refuse to prepare for decisive action in case of emergency. On the other hand they're idiots for just crossing their fingers hoping no catastrophes will happen while they're in office. Ideally he should have addressed the lack of oversight before it became so painfully clear that it was necessary (as should have his predecessors). Same thing with the banks, for that matter. You have to wonder what catastrophe due to lack of oversight and foresight will happen next year. |

well, he's only one person...he's only presindent of one country...and the spill occured in national waters... therefore, he can only handle what effects our shorelines and not really further than that :/ fact is, we need more help...USA is only one country with only so many resources to handle the problems...we can't just rely on one man to fix it |

Well, at the moment it is affecting mostly your shorelines anyway. But the drilling took place in the US's exclusive economic zone (which can extend up to 200 nautical miles into sea), so the US is ultimately responsible -- which can partly take the form of making BP take its responsibility. I did hear some comments in our media from some companies that specialize in cleaning up messes like oil spills that they were wondering why they hadn't been asked for help. I think last week we finally send over some equipment to mop up oil from the sea surface. I'm not quite sure why they have to wait till they're asked in the first place, but I suppose they may have worried more about who will pay the bill than the damage to the environment. (That kind of summarizes the problem, doesn't it. Always short-term monetary concerns win out over long term costs.) Maybe it's time we set up a global task force that has the equipment and know-how to deploy the moment some disaster strikes. Because as it is, it always takes eons before anyone takes appropriate action; whether it's earthquakes, hurricanes or oil spills. Give him a mop and broom and let's see how far he gets
