Elly Why not just have a best WOman instead or something?~ I almost was one of those - tux and all. towr Isn't the best man supposed to hold a speech? Traditionally, the best man gives a toast - it used to be that he made a toast to the just the bride but now it's usually made to the couple - to which the groom responds: he thanks his best man and then makes a toast to his bride. Then the bride makes a toast to her husband, then both sets of parents go. After that, the floor is either open for toasts or the festivities continue on. Not-so-traditionally, the best man makes a toast, the maid/matron of honor makes a toast, followed by at least the father of the bride (but not surprising if the other parents do, too), the floor is then open for vengeful siblings with embarrassing stories, and the bride and groom are too busy thinking about later to make a toast themselves.
