When he was younger he was a bit of a brat; a bratwurst.

They say there are no atheists in foxholes. Well then, guess what I'll put down as my religion next time war breaks out.

*feels like she's heard the line about atheists and foxholes, but can't remember what it means*

Well, there's always the navy or air force...

Well, a foxhole is a shelter that soldiers dig, so they can duck into it when they're being shot at, and from which they can shoot at other soldiers without exposing themselves.

What the saying basically means, is that some people think that whimpering "oh god, oh god, please don't let me die, oh god, please, someone get me out of here" makes you religious.

Some people argue that "there are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamed of in your philosophy". But there's only a finite number of things in heaven and earth, and my philosophy includes the set of natural numbers.

Having a number to assign to a thing is very different from knowing or understanding what it is, however.
/impressively belated response

True, but it is quite an inaccurate statement even in that sense. Because the sets of things that are unknown or badly understood are rather big on both sides (i.e. "reality" and "theory"). Funnily enough we don't even know the extent to which they overlap.

Not to mention too many people just use it as a bad excuse for arguing that their pet theory might not be entirely impossible. Which, to me, does not sound like the best endorsement for a pet theory.
"Yeah, it doesn't really makes sense, doesn't explain much, actually raises more questions than it solves, and there are much better alternative explanations, but you can't dismiss it because it's not entirely impossible! Hah!"

but if what you believe is open enough to include the possibilities others come up with, in all the whole ends up being greater than the sum of its parts....which i think could pretty much cover everything

then again, jokes disregard much that is in order to be humorous anyway  although, some jokes just don't work out very well :Y (they should exercise more often maybe)
