This thread is for Out Of Character [OOC] discussion about the game and for posting character and world-building information. I will probably eventually put an organized glossary of Characters and other things in this post. |

i will probably create a sphere user in a distant town in the not too distant future i wonder if having too many plotlines in a single thread will be a problem |

I don't mind splitting things up into multiple threads as necssary, or adding subforums and moving things around either. I think there are pros and cons to multiple threads and ultimately whatever encourages people to post more is the best system so i am leaning towards multiple threads but I am probably the person with the least experience here so |

I don't know what to say about the threads thing but I figure multiple threads when unnecessary might actually make things a bit more confusing, and I'd suggest to wait and see if it becomes a problem to have it all in one thread, before making a second thread for IC As for the spheres I dunno but I think it would be cool if we made that happen sooner rather than later IRL or whatever Edited by yeti, Dec 19 2016, 12:17 AM.

my intention is to have alice cause some trouble with Norr and get in trouble and maybe gorika could get involved fsr if Norr makes a big fuss about it or something I was also planning to ignite alice's spark at a convenient time and if that is done in a somewhat visible way it could start an excuse for some variety of journey |

I don't really have much of anything planned for Gorika, even the thing that I was doing yesterday was more just to develop her background more and give me something to do in the RP and stuff also I came up with some more ideas for lore yesterday well I guess it is mainly just this one thing, since I forgot the rest if there is more but basically I figured, y'know, that if there are things like schools where they teach magic, and lots and lots of people know magic then there is probably, like, a system for officially recognizing how capable you are as a magician there may not even be that many levels of recognition, I dunno like I figure there is probably a basic level, at the least, where you are recognized as someone who can use magic enough to be significantly more capable than the average member of your species but I thought that if anything there is probably also something like a master level few reach this level, I dunno, I was thinking that there might be something like 30 of them on the continent of Rea, maybe more, maybe less the main reason I can see for there being more than 30 is that there are lots of long-lived beings around and who knows what all they could have accomplished it is supposed to be a really high level though I don't think Gorika could qualify for it for at least another 5 years, and it might even take her longer than that... maybe even 10 years Those who do reach this level are probably usually very eccentric and may often be the sort that live for their magical pursuits But I figured that probably the test for this master level is actually pretty simple and allows for most if not all kinds of magic-users to receive it if their level of ability is high enough so like, probably the main thing is just that a panel of judges votes to determine whether or not you should receive it I thought it would be 9 judges at first but then I thought it might be more fitting if it is 7 of course they would want to see some proof of your ability, but it doesn't have to be something that you can perform on the spot probably but basically at least at the highest levels of recognition, they probably are incredibly fair and accurate about it, perhaps even supernaturally so so if you have a level of ability that should be recognized as master, in some way, then you will be recognized, and if you don't have it, then you won't.... in almost all cases, at least there is no corruption or pity votes or whatever, and they probably use magic to try and remove as much bias and inaccuracy from it as possible, but it is possible for there to be a mistake or two in some way but probably at least once you receive that kind of recognition, you are being treated like nobility one way or another well, this is how I imagined it anyway the title that I came up with for master level is "archmage" but it can be something else Edited by yeti, Dec 19 2016, 01:08 AM.

it could be that one or more gods had a hand in the recognition process to make it as fair and accurate as it is Dunn highly values power so it seems like a reasonable choice Veren highly values passion and probably those of this kind of level of ability are very passionate about magic, but I'm not sure if it really fits here having trouble thinking of others that would qualify if they worship Seti and call on it's power in order to get the most impartial judgements they can, that might make sense too Seti would probably like to help mortals make fair and impartial judgements but I don't know Edited by yeti, Dec 19 2016, 01:19 AM.

Something like that doesn't sound bad to me, but i would prefer the world not be too unified. Whatever council is responsible for naming archmages, there should be equally or more powerful forces who agree or disagree with the way they do things. Like maybe there is an isolationist society of magic-focused elves who think that the council's approach to magic is silly. I also think it is more interesting that the council is somewhat subject to flaw although I think it is fine for them to generally be upstanding and fair people I am not as keen on the idea of their fairness being some sort of supernatural trait that is bolstered by both magic and gods, although that might be because I have a hard time imagining fairness as something objective. |

yeah the thing about being too unified was sort of poking at me too of course, the faction that judges the highest levels of ability could probably be something like a neutral party which most other parties are willing to trust to some degree isolationist societies of magic-focused elves sound cool inaccuracy can be removed to a large extent via magic but as for improving fairness, I'm not so sure about that, yeah (maybe Consciousness magic can though, yeah that sounds reasonable) if anything, they probably improve their fairness by doing things like regularly practicing meditation Edited by yeti, Dec 19 2016, 01:37 AM.

i think that the existence of a neutral faction that is universally respected to some degree is probably too unifying for my tastes. Maybe it is comparable to something like the olympics, although even the olympics has its faults. |
