This thread is for Out Of Character [OOC] discussion about the game and for posting character and world-building information.

I will probably eventually put an organized glossary of Characters and other things in this post.

hm yeah that makes sense

I mean, the magic school may be able to continue in an "underground" way (perhaps even literally underground) and without funding, but that would still hugely impact the school's ability to spread the ways of magic, even if the remaining students were fine with the change

It is also notable that even if people couldn't take down the headmaster when alone, they may be able to if they work together well enough

If it is just people that are working completely alone, I would estimate that there are probably 30 or more on the continent of Rea who can actually take down the headmaster, though in some of those cases they may only be able to drive them off, not kill them

the kingdom probably does have at least 1-5 of those, I figure

whether the kingdom can motivate those people to take down the headmaster is another matter, but I'm sure there are quite a few situations where it could happen

but indeed even if they couldn't get any of them, working together is one of the basics of fighting and in many stories wizards are known for working together to cast the very same spells, sometimes even allowing them to cast a spell that no known individual could cast alone

of course, the headmaster is also capable of working together with others but still, overall it would definitely be a huge mess if things went that far and the headmaster surely doesn't want things to go that far (though if by some chance the headmaster felt they had a really good reason to take things that far, well, I doubt fear would be something that would stop them, though something else might)

Okay it is seriously rubbing me the wrong way that I'm trying to define how powerful people are in general on Rea and how exceptional you'd need to be to have some level of power or whatever

Screw all that, just ignore what I said about that stuff

I have come to a realization

If Gorika can't survive much of an impact at 5000 km/h then as soon as her leg touches the ground at 12000 km/h it will probably get torn off at best

a lot of the way that I had her speed working (when she's on the ground) is that she would leap off the ground at a low angle, say 30 degrees at the highest, and that leap itself would not generate nearly enough kinetic energy but she would use magic to give herself a lot more kinetic energy, and basically the kinetic energy from the leaps would be what lets her increase her speed from roughly 10000 km/h to roughly 12000 km/h

except then once she reaches such crazy speeds, the next time she hits the ground her legs get torn off at best?

so that's why it seems like now the best way for me to make this make sense is to make it so that she's also using her kinetic energy magic to reduce how much kinetic energy she's transferring to the ground, which makes it so that the ground pushes back on her a lot less

if I let her do that then she can reduce the impact of all sorts of things and probably survive crashing into something at 12000 km/h easily

on the flipside, it still doesn't let her do something like a "super punch" by slamming her fist into somebody at 12000 km/h because in such a case, she is transferring a lot less energy to the target than she should be, meaning she's doing a lot less damage than that "super punch" normally would

from the start though she could get around the need to survive the impact by simply throwing something at someone at such high speeds

hmmmm

Gorika is probably more powerful than I initially imagined her being

it is hard for me to wrap my head around too

also if Gorika wasn't afraid of rapidly moving winds she could use her speed combined with wind magic combined with kinetic energy magic and kick up ludicrous storms

we're talking fucking huge tornadoes and shit, probably even stuff on the scale of a hurricane? I dun fucking know, but once you can move at 12000 km/h you are potentially a catastrophe waiting to happen

There is almost certainly someone under the employ of the king/lord of the kingdom who could defeat the headmaster single-handedly. Their magical skill might be slightly lower, but their ability to use it in a fight probably more than makes up for it.

I imagine most kingdoms have at least one champion who is very, very strong under their domain, otherwise they would be at a greater risk of being attacked.

Name: Ri'ka

Race: Human

Age: 20

Sex: Female

Bio:

Ri'ka found out a young age that she was destined for misfortune. At the age of 8, she was diagnosed with a disease known only as "Soul's End", an incurable ailment that would make her body feeble and cause her to die young.

The odds that she would last into adulthood were close to zero.

Even at this young age, Ri'ka's spirit was very strong. She refused to accept her fate and spent almost all of her free time trying to find a way to fight her disease. She eventually came upon a master swordsman named Torr, "the Blade of the Eighteen Isles". This swordsman offered to take her in as his student so long as she was willing to show single-minded devotion his training. He claimed that by working her body to its limit, it would be able to survive Soul's End much longer than it would otherwise.

She accepted, spending almost all of the next 10 years under his tutelage.

At the end of the ten years, Torr deemed her ready to learn combat magic, including his signature magical technique: Limit Magic. By using a spell called "Limit", it is possible to push one's body to its full limit at the cost of magical energy. Torr had perfected a special form of this technique he called "Exceed" which allowed him to double, triple, or even quadruple both his physical and magical capabilities. By doing this, it was possible to match a stronger opponent in raw strength, even without spending decades gaining experience.

The downside to Exceed, however, was that it lowers a person's maximum life expectancy. Using the technique itself doesn't have a negative effect, but the first time exceeding one's limit by each tier causes greater and greater decreases in lifespan. To quadruple one's limit, a decade of a person's life could be lost.

Ri'ka learned the combat magic Torr taught her, but she took to limit magic like a glove. In fact, because her lifespan was already limited by Soul's End, she had little reason not to push Exceed to limits far beyond that of her master.

After proving that she had surpassed Torr, he passed on his title as the "Blade of the Eighteen Isles" to her, making her the champion of the Eighteen Isles of Ilara. She is the youngest champion the Isles have ever had, and the only human female to have ever been given the honor.

The Isles of Ilara are often engaged in war and conflict with sea bandits; it is here that Ri'ka honed her fighting instinct further and made a name for herself among the people of Ilara.

Now she fights in the Tournament of Ages, a tournament filled with many of the greatest one-on-one fighters in Reaet. She hopes to win the tournament so that her name will be remembered by history, even if her body is destined to give way within the not too distant future.

Description:

Fierce and beautiful, Ri'ka is admired and feared by many. Her long red hair always seems to be flowing behind her in the wind and her expression is almost always confident and proud. Her condition prevents her body from putting on too much muscle, but what muscle she has has been honed like a knife.

She wears brownish metal armor that fits her form with red and gold details for the sake of appearances. Ultimately, the importance of the armor is that it provides her a lot of resistance to magic.

Ri'ka's weapon of choice is the sword she calls the Endtaker. It was designed to help her with limit magic and enhancing her attacks with lesser elements.

nice character Rubik

also it seems that I've done a poor job at explaining Gorika's life magic

it was not intended to be a complicated thing but basically it is a magic that can be used in different ways and can have both short term and long term effects

and one of the possible long term effects is an increased lifespan, though just using the magic on you once will generally not increase your lifespan by much

it is with continued usage that it can eventually even increase your lifespan by decades like what has happened to Gorika herself (Gorika had to use it on herself a LOT to give herself that kind of increase, of course), or by even more than that if it is used even more than that

if you don't want Gorika to be able to help Ri'ka like that you can just make the Soul's End be something which prevents life magic from helping her much, at least at this level of life magic

or you could come up with some other reason for why it doesn't work or just doesn't work well enough

Gorika will continue to improve, but I will of course try to keep the rate of improvement to what I think is reasonable given the circumstances of it

it should be noted that Gorika has been practicing this magic for well over a decade and that is why it is this strong and why she has had the opportunity to use it on herself enough to increase her lifespan so much
