This was initially going to be solely our world fair opening post, but some early feedback from this suggested it could be also used as a State of the Kingdom post, which I've decided to go with.

Greetings Friends, Convicted and Non-Convicted Criminals, Saints, Sinners, Peasants and the Hipsters who select “all of the above” on the Census!

It has been a full and some, two years since the Kingdom of Alexandria last oversaw a booth at the World Fair, and truly, without the great enthusiasm of Diamete, Artemis and Typhlo this may have been the second fair we decided to merely observe.

A lot has happened since we last posted a greeting within a booth bearing our name, and despite rumours of our death (spread by a malicious fourth, fifth and seventh party), we are still very much alive despite some holes in the formerly pristine walls of our borders (not all of whom were made by our foes, thank you friendly fire), a few defeathered wings, and one or two very shouty radical sermons between two competing religious organisations: Flemingovianism and the Heretics who follow Makerism.

The cankerous spirit that so defines Alexandrian resilience, even as we expand our attentions beyond NationStates very much defines our community. Yet even with that resilience, Alexandria has been battered by circumstance these past twelve months, and where we entered 2017 stepping carefully amidst the rubble of a great internal schism over our NationStates involvement, we leave 2017 striding confidently, no longer beset by doubt and assured in our future. We are reassured, we are united.

Some tried to break us this year. They tried games forged from infantile spite, and tried to strip everything Alexandria held dear in a fit of childish temper. They failed to damper our community, and they have turned their blade on the people that supported them in their initial ravings: I believe the word for it is “karma”. May the void take those who find joy in such cruel acts, for even in the boundless potential of forgiveness that Alexandria possesses, such people are beyond it.

2017 was the year of upheaval, the year where bonds were broken and where those in service to malicious elements made their names and faces known through word and deed. I speak not in character, but out of character. For my friends, we have all experienced the hell that was the violation of our trust by people who took advantage of our open, welcoming and generous natures.

2017 has been defined as a year that shifted the definition of conflict, and this year we have seen so many new cases of harassment, or worse. Many of us have had to learn hard, often brutal lessons this year, and we are better people for them.

I would like to pay tribute to the communities of people in NationStates who have weathered these events, who have reaffirmed their bonds and strengthened their ties in the light of such dishonesty and acts of senseless pain against their members. From Europeia and beyond: we have each been dealt a difficult hand to play and few can deny that.

Beyond that, I must pay tribute to the indomitable spirits and kind hearts to my friends and colleagues across NationStates and Alexandria, those who supported me in a dark time when I sought help combatting the demons within my own head. They know who they are, and I say this with no humour: Thank you. I am unworthy of your friendship and it is because of you that I, and by extension Alexandria is here to attend this fair today.

It hurts me, many months on that I learned on a fateful day earlier this year that there are those who I was mistaken about, those who decided to take sides in matters that did not concern them, or those who value a virtual game above people who were supposed to be friends and for these months I have stayed silent allowing others to control the message and the dialogue.

This originally started as a letter from Hyacinth (McMasterdonia) and I to everyone, both Alexandrian and non to celebrate the fair, but as I (Joshua) sat to write this I found myself lost to the thoughts that have spewed forth, as I pondered the meaning to the Theme - “The NationStates of Tomorrow”. We cannot think about ‘tomorrow’ without first taking stock of yesterday and today, which is something I do regularly and in some cases, I am plagued by even the simplest mistakes as I lay down to sleep - both related to conversations I’ve had, and conversations I should have had.

But above all, from these trials comes a period of reconciliation. These trials bring reflection, they bring a chance to consider ourselves and our ideologies. It is through these trials that we are able to improve, and by perseverance we are able to overcome even the most unexpected and brutal trial.

We each have a duty, an internal sense of duty, code of ethics and honour that dictates what it is we find acceptable. Alexandria was founded upon the principle of sanctuary, security and cooperation. These are values that I have held dear for many years, so tired was I after the Osiris Fraternal Order was founded in 2013, yet so unwilling to rest. I ultimately paid a high price for my pace, both politically and mentally, although they should not be equated.

I have heard of unspeakable deeds being committed, being planned and even joked about. These deeds helped me reinforce the internal line of in and out of character that sometimes fades during moments of high emotion, and I am horrified that others can even so much as joke about harmful deeds being done to people simply because they are ideological opponents on a virtual game.

The NationStates of Tomorrow that I want, is one where one shouldn’t be afraid to speak up. One where someone who needs help, can seek it and be taken seriously; where politics won’t get in the way of someone reaching out for friends and where actions have consequences.

The Tomorrow I dream of, is not just in the game, but a state that I wish for real life. A state where those who need help, whether they are victims of a crime or abuse, or victims of the demons within their own head can have access to the resources and facilities they need to move on and rebuild.

But above all else, that Tomorrow, is something I want to share with friends: both the friends I have outside of this game, and the friends I have made in this game and even the dear friends who have left this game.

Today may be hard, yesterday may have been almost as much as you can take but tomorrow will come.

Deserter to face Military Court Martial for Abandoning Border Fortification!

[/box][box]

The Lord High Constable, MARGRAVE ATAGAIT DRACOSEIR OF CICILIA issued a writ of detention against MARGRAVE HSIM-AMMANAT compelling him into custody of the Knight-Sentinels and the Kingsguard of Alexandria for Dereliction of Duty while in Command of an essential northern border fortification along the Alexandrian-Albingian Border earlier this year.

His Grace, the Margrave of Leidenburgh and Landgrave of Leiden abandoned his post after sharing confidential Kingsguard Operation details with the Prince-Palatine of the Northern Province without the permission of the Crown. The Operation revealed - the capture of an elusive OATHBREAKER in The Dalles County - would have required a three pronged attack from different areas of the Heartlands with Leiden providing emergency repatriation and flight prevention had LANDGRAVE KANAAN ODINSSON-IMPERIUS tried to flee Northwards by foot or ship from the Alexandrian East Coast via the Kalus or Frostwood Ports.

This desertion, and misbehaviour in the face of Albingian aggression - following their reunification into a single Kingdom last year, 8:16 following the sighting of strange demonic style creatures which are passing something called "Blight-sickness" to vulnerable people north of the border was condemned by Nobles in both the Heartlands and Southern Provinces of Alexandria with a source close to the Kingsguard Command calling it "One of knots in the rope around the neck of Alexandrian security unless it was dealt with strongly".

The Lord High Constable, His Grace, Margrave Atagait Dracoseir of Cicilia has elected to charge the Margrave Hsim-Ammanat with the following crimes: Dereliction of Duty (Desertion), Sedition, Espionage, Unlawful Disclosure and Criminal Deception.

MARGRAVE HSIM-AMMANAT will be represented by Mister Christopher Bishop of Albion House, The Diplomatic Quarter, Enlightened City Alexandria. We are led to understand that Mister Bishop is an Albion National who has been appointed by the High Court in lieu of the Defendant using the virtue by way of his Margraviate to speak in his own defence.

The Crown of Alexandria has announced that the Military Tribunal shall be led by Mister Edward Calidan as High Justiciar, seated on the Bench with His Grace, MARGRAVE CARTIER OF BYTTLEHAVEN and Mister Hayashi of Sea-on-the-Wold.

The High Court, acting as a Military Court during this period has accepted the Charges submitted by the Lord High Constable and is currently in a 24 Hour Waiting Period while Representatives of The Crown and Defendant declare themselves.

For several months the Council of Paladia has stood idle only passing a few items of business, with the most notable being the Dereliction of Duty Act. This was a bill that was passed upon the recommendation of the Queen to help deal with Nobles of the Kingdom who have been absent or negligent in their duty to the people of their lands. The Kingdom has only seen a single challenge under the Dereliction of Duty Act given by Privy Councillor Artemis Ravenclaw against Landgrave Anders Odinsson. Lord Anders was able to pass the scrutiny of the Crown with the assistance of Lord Atagait Dracosier and Prince Palatine Kuling Odinsson.

But recently Princess Kellina Ravanclaw, appointed Archadian of the Council stepped down due to reasons the Herald was unable to gather. With the lack of an Archadian, the Queen opened up nominations and elections for the position. Two nobles of the kingdom stepped forward to fill the position. Lord Atagait Dracosier and Lady Artemis Ravenclaw. During the voting period, Lady Artemis conceded the election and removed their name from the ballot ensuring Lord Atagait's election as Archadian of the Council.

Within days of his election the Council passed several bills which opened membership to all Subjects of the Crown, revised land ownership laws of the kingdom and formally establishing holidays that are practiced by the people of the Kingdom and setting them up as official holidays.
