 | The Laetians "The Shepherds of Song" | |
[ The Grasslands of Laetus ]: Laetus is one of the earliest settled regions in Aethernia and by far the most prosperous economically. Its position offers it a degree of political immunity. Laetus is know as the Green Land because of its incredibly lush and fertile lands; over 80% of the region is farmland. Here, the majority of Aethernia's crops are grown, ranging across all food groups; fruits, vegetables, and livestock. There are few forests in the region, with the majority of its land being large, open plains. Some notable landmarks are the Sunset Hills, the Quili River (home to The Crossing, a small village that controls traffic from Praetorah into Laetus), and Aethernia's largest lake, the Kyoka Waters. The region is home to many temperate forms of wildlife, such as deer, prairie rodents, and mustelids among others.
The capital of Laetus is Evergreen, a very peaceful and collected city that serves as the heart of Laetus' rich culture. It is placed near the center of Laetus, surrounded by rolling green hills and encased by trees. What Laetus possesses in terms of economic might, it lacks severely in military power. The military force in Laetus is smaller than that of any other region. Even so, those who are warriors are highly skilled with bows, offering them a greater diversity in attack. Still, Evergreen is positioned in a rather open and vulnerable area, with not much in the way of natural defense. Truly, its only real benefit is the partnership it has with Luminion and Caelum as a whole, protecting it from any would-be enemies.
Laetus has the softest social structure of any region in Aethernia. There is very little disparity between classes; the workers are, ironically, held in higher regard than merchants and soldiers. Due to the rich history of the arts in Laetus, artist and musicians are often treated with even more regard than the politicians and minor lords. Regardless, the nobility still holds a clear edge over the rest of the citizens, though even this is somewhat askiewed as most rulers take the opinions of their citizens into heavy consideration.
