Evie shivered a bit as she walked through Jujine Town. Despite it only being early November, the holiday decorations were up and about everywhere. She admired them as she walked, making a mental note that maybe skipping Honu to come to Jujine upon hearing about the festival was a bad idea after all. All of the shops on the small strip of Main Street that she walked along were decorated with beautiful flashing lights in a myriad of colors. Tinsel hang in windows and decals of snowmen and Santa Clause were plastered in the windows.
She could hear the sound of Christmas carols being projected from somewhere; likely town square, and resisted the urge to stop by and listen just yet. Instead, she looked around the bustling streets, searching for a small clothing boutique where she could pick up some quick winter gear. It'd be even better if she could find an electronics store as well; she really wanted to pick up a phone.
It didn't take long for her to notice a small store, called Roselia Petals Boutique, to catch her eye. She quickly hurried in, just as a chilly breeze shot through the air. She shivered again as the door closed behind her and rubbed her hands together in an attempt to warm them and bring feeling back to her fingers while she looked around. The store was lined with all sorts of winter fashion, ranging from fur-lined boots to thick wool peacoats and everything in between.
"Welcome, welcome! Can I help you?" The owner of the voice was a happy woman, maybe slightly older than Evie was. She flashed a warm smile to Evie, looking her up and down for a moment before her expression changed to one of surprise. "I'm sorry to intrude, but... Aren't you cold?" she blurted out, before looking slightly horrified at her lack of a filter.
Evie nodded sheepishly. "That's... Kinda why I'm here," she responded. She glanced around. "I'm looking for a jacket, boots, scarf... pretty much all the winter gear I'd need to comfortably travel."
"While looking great, of course! Look at that hair! That smile! Your skin! You can look stylish and still have functionality, no problem! Come here, come here!" She ushered Evie over to a seat in front of a mirror before taking off, running about the store and plucking items off of racks and shelves. "I'm Alice, by the way," she announced casually as she went about, picking items that appeared they'd suit Evie's needs and be flattering at the same time.
"Evie," she responded, watching Alice dart about. It was almost dizzying to watch her run back and forth, this way and that way, as the pile in her arms continued to grow.
"Oh, like the Pokemon!"
Evie inwardly facepalmed. She hated when people compared her name to the Pokemon. With a sigh, she feigned a smile and a chipper, "Yep!" but she wasn't particularly convincing.
"Oh, I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to upset you!" Alice stopped what she was doing and looked at Evie with an apologetic expression. "I just... I always run my mouth too much. I need to filter myself better, but..." She shook her head and brought the pile of winter gear over to Evie to look at and try on. "Well, anyway, this should all suit you well. I'm guessing on the sizes, but I've never been wrong before! Let's see it!"
Evie looked over what had been brought to her. At the top of the stack was a pair of fitted cream colored gloves, lined and accentuated at the lip with what appeared to be soft, faux Ninetales fur. Beneath the gloves was a matching cream colored fleece scarf and a simple black, wool bucket hat. There was a shoebox beneath that, and Evie peered inside to find a pair of boots that looked like they'd reach her calf. They were an off-black color, and felt like they were made of suede, with a couple buckles along the sides to tighten the leg of the boot to ensure a snug fit. The bottoms of the boot were clearly meant for hiking and appeared to have great traction, and the opening at the top of the boot was also lined with a similar, cream colored fur that also lined the inside as well. The fronts of the boots laced up all the way up to the top to create a perfect fit. Beneath the box was a long, mid-thigh length fitted black wool peacoat. It was double breasted, with three shiny buttons going down each side.
Evie smiled as she looked over everything. "It looks great!" she announced as she began pulling the layers on, one by one. She started with the boots over her dark jeans, then continued upwards, pulling on the jacket, the gloves, the scarf, and finally the hat. When she was finally wearing everything, she glanced at the mirrors lining the waiting area and really looked herself over. It looked great! She looked much older and more mature with the clothing on and instantly loved it. The black was perfect to balance out her bright hair and eye color, and looked great with her skin tone as well. The cream accents helped keep her from looking lifeless. Everything also fit perfectly.
"You look fabulous, Evie!" Alice announced.
"How'd you get the sizes right?" she asked, admiring herself in the mirror. She couldn't stop looking; it was as if she were a brand new person.
"It's a gift!" Alice responded cheerfully with a wink.
"Well... How much will this all be?" She suddenly realized that this all probably cost a lot more than she had on hand, considering it was a fancy boutique.
"Ummm...." Alice went to work, ringing everything up right where it was on Evie, scanning tags and barcodes without needing her to take off a thing. She sort of balked at the register for a moment before grinning at Evie. "Well, I'm going to take off 50% for running my big mouth, okay?"
Evie's eyes widened. "No no, I don't want you to get in trouble..." She shook her head insistently, wanting to do the right thing by paying full price.
"It's not a problem, okay? This is my mom's store, and, well... I run my mouth way too much anyway. Plus, it looks fantastic on you! The final price will be $153.72, okay?"
Evie sighed, digging in her bag for her wallet. She really couldn't afford the full price if that was 50% off. Not if she wanted that cell phone, anyway. "Well, if you insist..." She handed Alice a debit card to be swiped at the register.
"I do! No problem!" she announced, swiping the card and hitting all the relevant buttons on her register before passing the card and receipt back to Evie. "Really, Evie, you look great! Have a nice day, and merry Christmas! ... Or is it happy holidays now?"
Evie chuckled, flashing a gracious smile. "Thank you so much, Alice! You too!" And with that said, she waved one more time and left the boutique, instantly feeling much more comfortable now that she was protected from the cold. Her old shoes were safely stowed in her bag and she continued on her way.

Evie continued down Main Street, slowly getting closer to the festival. She noticed a small coffee and smiled. She deserved to pamper herself sometimes, she decided, and entered. Instantly, upon opening the door, she was met with the warm, pleasant aroma of coffee. The cafe had a pleasant ambiance, with jazz renditions of Christmas music softly playing in the background and the sound of warm conversations filling the air. Evie made her way through the cafe to the line, where she promptly read the menu, searching for something on it that sounded good.
"Hello, miss, can I take your order?"
She was startled when it was her turn to place an order, clearly lost in trying to figure out what sounded good. "Um..." She looked at the cashier sheepishly. "I'm not really sure. What would you recommend?"
The cashier looked slightly annoyed; there was quite a bit of a line forming behind her. "Uh... Coffee?" he snapped back snarkily.
"Clearly." Evie sighed irritably, but before she could say anything else, the man in line behind her began to speak.
"Try the dark chocolate orange mocha. It's fantastic. It's a local special. With whip is best." He winked at her. He was an older man with a pleasant smile. "I'll pick up her tab, as well. I'd like a white mocha with raspberry please."
"O-oh, no, sir, I can handle paying for myself!"
"Nonsense." He handed the money to the cashier who irritably shooed them to the side, not bothering to return the 25 cents change to the old man, instead dropping the quarter straight to the tip jar. "Enjoy your drink, miss! Happy holidays!"
"Thank you so much, sir!" She smiled. This must've been her lucky day or something.
"Not a problem. Just pay it forward sometime, okay?"
It was then that their orders had been finished, and the old man handed Evie her cup. He tipped his hat and continued on his merry way out the door and down the street.
Evie sipped her coffee, mulling over what had just happened. She smiled, realizing just how friendly the citizens of Jujine seemed to be, and was suddenly quite happy she had stopped here instead of Honu. Besides, the festival was bound to be tons of fun. She decided she'd definitely be stopping by with her Pokemon once she picked up a cell phone.
Conveniently enough, there was an electronics shop right next to the coffee shop. "I love this town!" Evie sighed to herself as she made a beeline for the store, moving right over to where the cell phones were.
"Hello, how can I help you?" The cashier here seemed to be a friendly man. He flashed a kind smile at Evie and approached her from behind the counter. "Is there anything in particular you're looking for today?"
"Yes, actually, I need a cell phone. The most basic smartphone you've got should do it. I'm not too rough with my things. So long as there's a sturdy case around it and a screen protector, it should be okay!"
The man nodded as he mulled over what she said. "What will you be using the phone for mostly?"
"Browsing the web, occasional GPS, texting, and the rare phone call here and there."
"Got it! One moment, please."
The man left, running into the back to pick out a few items. He returned a few moments later, hands full. "Okay! I've got this new phone. We're running a great bundle deal right now for the Festival, so you're in luck! The phone has has wifi capabilities, accurate GPS, all the standard features, and a great camera. It's also water resistant! So long as you don't submerse it for longer than about four or five minutes, you should have no water damage. It comes with the standard trainer's protection kit, which includes the Oshawottbox case, which is shock resistant and waterproof, along with a glass screen protector as well!"
Evie smiled. "That sounds perfect, so long as it's within my price range. How much is it?" She took another sip of her coffee, waiting for the man to do all of the calculations.
"With the festival discount, the trainer discount, and the bundle, you're looking at... WOW!" He glanced over to Evie, eyes dramatically wide. "$239.99!" That includes the first months' service fee, activation, and your SIM card! Great deal! It's normally $700.00 before tax! We have a great deal with a very wealthy sponsor this year for the festival."
That was a relief! Evie's budget for a phone was only about $400, so this was a steal! "I'll take it! Could you set it up for me, please?"
"Got it!" He grinned again and went back to work, setting up the phone. He really loved the holidays! It was always pleasant to have such amazing, affordable deals!
As the man worked, Evie enjoyed her coffee, idly looking outside at the bustling streets. People were going to and fro, carrying gift bags, and children were running about. The street had been closed to vehicles for the festival, which gave the whole town a rustic feel. She smiled and watched, growing more and more excited for the festival. Finally, a day for relaxation. She was looking forward to having no battling or training on her mind.
"All done, ma'am!" The man called out, catching Evie's attention. "Now if you'd just come over here, sign the papers, and finish up..."
Evie went over, did as requested, and picked up the new phone. It looked great! The screen was bright, and the lock screen displayed an ocean in which a school of Finneon swam about, with the occasional Sharpedo passing through. "Thank you so much!" Evie smiled at the man.
"No problem! Happy holidays! Enjoy the festival!"
Evie left the store, happy that she had gotten everything she had needed, and walked toward the festival, wondering what kind of events they'd have. She was eager to get going with the holiday games.

It didn't take much longer for Evie to arrive at the town square. If she thought the town's main street was festive, town square was Santa's workshop. The trees were decked out with bright, blinking lights and huge baubles the size of watermelons hanging from them. There were wreaths and 'Happy Holidays!' banners hanging from light poles, and a few stages had been set up in the center of the park. They even had some Vanilluxe and Cryogonals spreading snow across the ground with weak Powdersnow attacks. Festive music came from large speakers set up by one stage.
Children and Pokemon alike frolicked in the snow, kicking it about and building snowmen and throwing snowballs back and forth. Overall, it was a beautiful arrangement, filled with joy. Along one side of the square, people had set up small booths to sell hot cider, chocolate, and various wintry snacks, like gingerbread Stantler.
She glanced to the further stage, just in time for an announcer to call out a costume contest. She watched with mild interest as she saw a Zigzagoon with a red painted nose, antlers, and a Santa hat frolic across the stage for a moment before doing a cute little Tail Whip and Growl combination that had the audience gushing.
Just moments later, a Delibird wearing a Santa's hat and costume ran out, throwing Presents across the audience. Some exploded with glitter and tinsel, while others dropped small children's toys or small amounts of money. People cheered happily, and Evie turned her attention away.
"Excuse me, miss, are you a Pokemon trainer?"
Evie turned around to see a young child looking up at her.
"Yes, why?" she asked back, looking at the child. He was clutching a small stack of flyers and a clipboard against his chest, wearing winter outerwear. For a moment, the kid struggled to separate out a flyer from the stack, his finger dexterity ruined by his mittens, before finally extending his hand, offering it to Evie.
"There's a battle competition coming up! You should join! The first prize is a surprise winter Pokemon!"
Evie smiled and politely took the flyer, skimming over it. It wasn't necessarily her idea of a good time, but at least her Pokemon would enjoy it! Plus, it looked like it was three on three, which would be perfect. Even if they lost, at least they'd have a good time and get some good training in! "Sure, I'll sign up!" She took the clipboard and wrote down her name.
"Great! It starts in twenty minutes! Be at the north part of Town Square for your assignment!" And with that said, the boy ran away to look for more trainers.
Evie slowly meandered toward that general direction. A small crowd was gathering. From what she made out, it looked like it would be three separate rounds. They appeared to have eight contestants, including Evie. She sized up her opponents. No one seemed particularly strong, although interestingly enough, the old man that had bought her coffee was there as well. She caught his gaze and smiled kindly, giving him a shy wave.
He approached and grinned at her. "Well, if it isn't the lady from the coffee store!" he boomed, patting her on the shoulder affectionately. "You're here too, eh? Let's hope we don't get paired up! I'd hate to have to go easy on a pretty lady such as yourself!"
Evie chuckled in response. "Thanks again for the coffee, sir, I really appreciate it!"
Before he could say anything else, the announcer for the battle contest began speaking through a megaphone, and all eyes were to the front of the stage.
"Ladies and gentlemen! Welcome to the annual Jujine Winter Festival Battle Competition!" There was a loud cheer from the audience. "As always, this battle is sponsored by our lovely local shops and businesses, as well as a generous donation from Edgetech! Thank you all for making this possible!" More festive cheering.
"Now, let's go over our official contest rules! All league rules apply! Switching Pokemon mid-battle is acceptable, but no items are to be used during battle. Pokemon will be healed between battles by our lovely Nurse team, here today with their Audino and Blissey! Let's give our lovely nurses a round of applause!"
The audience went crazy, and a few men catcalled. The nurses smiled and waved bashfully, their cheeks flushed.
"This contest will be three on three, elimination style! The victors of the first round will go on to the second round, and the victors of the second round will battle for the title of champion and a SPECIAL WINTER POKEMON! Now! Without further ado, let us begin the pairing of the competition!"
He reached into an envelope and pulled out the first pairing. "Mary versus John, round one! Damien versus Finn, round two! Evie versus Lexi, round three! Harrison versus Alexandra, round four! Let the battles commence! Mary, John, front and center!"
The old man winked at Evie. "That's my call!" and he walked away, followed by a meek girl, who couldn't be much older than Evie. They began their battle, and Evie sat back to watch. She might as well get a feel for her opponents and their battle style, she figured. After all, her battle would be up before she knew it.

Before she knew it, John had defeated Mary, and Finn came out on top over Damien, although their battle had been very close to tied. Either way, Evie heard her name announced and approached the battlefield. Before each battle, the Pokemon responsible for filling the battlefield with snow made sure to give the grass a fresh coating of Powdersnow for the new contestants, so everyone had an equal opportunity to battle in the snowy terrain.
Evie approached the battlefield, taking one side while a tall, rather confident girl took the opposite side. She quirked a brow at Evie, smirking. "This will be over before long!" Lexi announced with a wink. "Don't be too upset when I win, darling." The last word was drawn out in a drawl, almost mockingly.
Evie smiled and remained silent, waiting for Lexi to begin the battle.
Random Encounter
Litleo
Level: 8 Ability: Unnerve Moves: 4 Moveset: 1- Tackle 2- Leer 3- Ember 4- Work Up
Bio Litleo appears to be somewhat young compared to the rest of its teammates, preferring fun and enjoyment during the battle over winning it.
Lotad
Level: 10 Ability: Rain Dish Moves: 5 Moveset: 1- Astonish 2- Growl 3- Absorb 4- Nature Power 5- Teeter Dance
Bio Lotad appears to be somewhat clumsy, which is understandable, but it seems to be determined to do well regardless.
Clefairy
Level: 9 Ability: Cute Charm Moves: 4 Moveset: 1- Disarming Voice 2- Pound 3- Encore 4- Sing
Bio The serious one out of the group, it does what it can do to follow every orders down to a t in order to earn them the victory.
Lexi pulled out a Pokeball with a flourish of her hand, pressing the button and releasing her first Pokemon, a Litleo.
Evie squealed a bit, grinning as she saw the playful Pokemon appear, shaking its tail as it batted at a clump of snow, shocked when it exploded under paw. It rolled over, glancing to Evie with a devious grin before pouncing up, ready to battle.
The crowd went absolutely wild for the darling Litleo, and Evie paused for a moment, choosing a Pokemon to send out. "Casimir, this is on you!" She tugged out her Nidoran's Pokeball and released her newest team member. The little Nidoran appeared nervous, but ambled into position. At least the Litleo didn't look too terrifying.
"Go! Tackle!" Lexi cried out, pointing dramatically at the Nidoran as she did. She wore a smirk, having not cared that the announcer hadn't even bothered calling the start of the battle.
"Well, I guess that's the start!" he announced after a few moments of stunned silence as the Litleo shook the snow off of its fur and bounded toward Casimir. Its tongue hung out of its mouth playfully as it charged, lowering its head and bracing for the Tackle to hit. At the last minute, however, it seemed to get a different idea and pounced, opening its front legs up to almost embrace the Nidoran in a hug before rolling through the snow a few times.
Casimir squeaked and Evie flinched when she saw the attack hit. "Uh... Double Kick!" Evie called out, thoroughly distracted with how utterly cute the Litleo really was. It reminded her of their previous adventure through the fields, saving the Litleo and Pyroar from poachers. Regardless, she forced herself to focus as they rolled.
Casimir tried to get his bearings, and when his back was on the ground, as the spinning seemed to have stopped, he kicked as hard as he could with both legs, shoving the Litleo off of him with a huff. As soon as Litleo was off of him, he rolled up into a standing position and growled at the little cub.
The Litleo was knocked to the ground by the Double Kick and remained there for a moment before standing up, looking somewhat ill.
"What? How dare you poison my darling Leon!" Lexi screeched. She pointed accusingly while shaking. "That's against the rules!!"
Evie blinked in surprise and remembered that Nidoran often had the ability Poison Point. And luckily for them, it seemed to kick in with all the snow romping. But Pokemon's abilities weren't against the rules... it wasn't an exploit. It was nature.
"Sorry, lass, but it is not against the rules! What do you want, us to put corks all over the poor Nidoran's spikes?" the announcer cut in, with a bit of an impatient expression. Did this girl know anything about the battle and the rules?
"Cass, let's try... another Double Kick!" It was clearly doing more damage than she'd imagine would be caused with a Tackle or something. Evie made a mental note to look into all of the Nidoran's potential moves to make sure she had a good understanding of them and their elemental affinities. She was pretty sure that Litleo was a normal type Pokemon, and would eventually gain a fire affinity with its evolution, but she couldn't for the life of her remember if Double Kick was normal or fighting.
Casimir growled a bit at the Litleo, Leering at it in the process before charging forward. The little Pokemon was surprisingly agile. While he wasn't faster than the Litleo, Leon seemed preoccupied with the wooziness that came with the Poisoning.
"Leon! Ember!" Lexi was not looking happy about the current state of affairs in the battle. She scowled bitterly, and Evie was beginning to get the impression that she was a bit spoiled.
The Litleo growled and forced itself to pay attention, opening its mouth and spraying the battlefield with embers. The small licks of flames scattered across the snow, sizzling and steaming as they flew toward Casimir. They struck just as the Nidoran spun around, kicking outward in another Double Kick. The kicks struck the Litleo in the head, forcing the Pokemon backwards before it collapsed, unable to battle. The poison and two super-effective hits were too much for the little Pokemon to take. Casimir dunked his back legs into the snow, preventing any chance of a lasting burn from happening before returning to his side for the battle.
And Lexi was furious.
"This isn't over! You'll see! My next Pokemon will beat you for sure!!" She returned her Litleo to its ball and kissed the surface. "You did great. You would've won if she hadn't cheated!" she told the ball, just loudly enough for Evie to hear it across the field.
Evie felt a hint of irritation. She looked to her Pokemon, who was staring across the field rather impassively. Rather than waiting for Lexi's next Pokemon, she recalled Casimir to his ball. The goal was to have all of her Pokemon battle equally, and that was what she wanted.
Lexi revealed her next Pokemon: a rather clumsy looking Lotad that appeared slightly uncomfortable in all the snow. "Beat that! You cant win against Leroy the Lotad! He's undefeated!!"
Evie had a feeling that wasn't the case. She shifted her weight uncomfortably for a moment before pulling out Lucien's ball and revealing her Ralts. The crowd around them seemed kind of irritated themselves, growing weary of the constant shouts and cries of Lexi.
"We've got this, Luce. Let's start with Double Team followed by Confusion!" It had been a useful tactic during their journey through Mt. Cana, and she was prepared to use it again. The less he managed to get hit, the better. She wanted this battle to go as smoothly as possible; hopefully a 3-0 at the rate they were currently going.
"Nature Power!"
The Lotad began moving just as the Double Team went into effect. Its body began to glow a strange white color before it summoned the power of the terrain surrounding them, and launched a Blizzard toward Lucien.
... But which was the real one? There were now three separate Ralts in front of him, and he wasn't sure which to aim at. He fired toward the middle, hoping that maybe some of the Blizzard's blast would hit wherever Lucien was hiding.
But unfortunately for Lucien, he was hit full blast just before he managed to use Confusion.
The blast from the attack sent him backwards and to the ground, covered in snow and ice. He was practically invisible for a moment, his green cap hidden and his white body blending in with the new pile of snow. He struggled to get up, pushing himself weakly to his feet and retaliated with the strongest Confusion he could muster, shoving the Lotad to the side.
Evie frowned as she watched her Pokemon struggle to his feet. "You okay, Luce?"
He nodded his head slightly, focused intently on the battle in front of him, waiting to see if the Lotad would attack again.
"Great. Let's keep going! Confusion again!"
"Nature Power!" Lexi, seeing just how strong the previous attack was, figured she'd go for it again. After all, that would end the battle if it hit!
The Lotad waddled forward, shaking its head a bit before glowing white once more, launching a Blizzard straight for Lucien while the Ralts focused on striking back.
...
And the Blizzard completely missed its mark.
Lucien's Confusion, on the other hand, shoved the Lotad's face into the snow. The Lotad stumbled to its feet with a dazed expression, clearly confused after that last attack hit.
"Nature Power again!"
"Protect and Confusion!"
The next round of Blizzard flew straight for Lucien, but he managed to pull up a Protect just in time, stopping the attack from hitting. Just as the Blizzard faded, another Confusion was launched across the field.
"And this battle's on fire!" the commentator announced, watching the constant stream of attacks back and forth. It was much more engaging than the previous battle that ended with two quick Double Kicks.
Both Pokemon stood, breathing heavily, looking at one another across the battle field. They waited for their opponents to attack first, not wanting to expend the energy. Both trainers waited as well, with bated breath, their eyes firmly planted on their Pokemon. The Lotad stumbled a bit, back and forth.
"Teeter Dance!"
"Confusion!"
The Lotad continued his stumbling, but this time, seemed to have a strange rhythm as he stepped one way, then the other, then seemed to dip downward before settling down. The strange dance was entrancing, and Lucien could not remove his gaze from it.
The Ralts was soon wobbling along with the Lotad, and his head grew fuzzy. The confusion set in and he shook his head, trying to clear it. He vaguely heard the call for a Confusion, but couldn't remember how to do it. As he tried, he pulled up a half-formed Protect instead.
"Hah! Your Pokemon doesn't even listen to you! How pathetic!" Lexi called out, mocking Evie.
Evie shook her head. That wasn't it at all, and she knew it. She saw how Lucien appeared to struggle. That wasn't him not listening at all. "Luce, you can do it, let's try a Confusion!"
"Whatever, loser! Astonish!"
Both attacks were launched at the same moment, striking their targets at the same time. The Lotad fell first, unable to battle. The crowd cheered as Lucien was clearly the victor.
And moments later, he collapsed in exhaustion, grinning weakly up at Evie. They had done it!
Evie smiled back and pulled out her Pokeball. "Fantastic work, Luce!" she told him as he was returned to his Pokeball in a flash of red light.
"Loser!" Lexi called out. "Look at that, my Lotad knocked him out!" She returned her unconscious Pokemon, sneering at Evie.
Evie found herself liking this girl less and less. She had appeared so well-mannered at the beginning of the fight, too! Regardless, she shook her head and sighed.
"Actually, miss, that win went to Evie and Lucien. Sorry 'bout that. ... Not really. That's the way things are going! So far, it's two to 1, Evie in the lead! What will be sent out next?" The announcer got the crowd riled up, basking in the cheers as each trainer was forced to bring out their final Pokemon.
"Leffy is going to win this!" Lexi called out, revealing her Clefairy. "Try and beat us! I dare you!"
Evie ran her hand through her hair and sighed. This was really starting to get annoying, even for the mild-mannered girl. "Ori, let's go!" She revealed her shiny Phantump and the crowd loved him.
"Look at that, ladies and gents! Ain't that a beut! We've got a Clefairy versus a rare, shiny Phantump! This should be an interesting battle; let's see how it goes!"
"Ori, let's start things out with a Shadow Claw! You've got this!"
"Encore!"
"What--"
Before Evie could even figure out what the hell her opponent was trying to do, shouting out encore at her Pokemon, the battle had begun. Ori had flown forward, executing a near-perfect Shadow Claw, although it didn't hit as strongly as it should. The ghostly attack struck the Clefairy right across the face, forcing the Clefairy backwards onto the ground.
However, both the Clefairy and her trainer were grinning. Clearly, this was what they had planned for. The Clefairy began clapping, glowing a faint red color, and Ori stopped moving, entranced for a moment by his opponent.
"Ori, Tackle!" Evie called out, although her voice was unsure. She couldn't tell what had just happened, but whatever it was, they needed to keep going.
Ori hesitated to attack, staring at the Clefairy with wide eyes. He watched her with a... loving expression? Confused, Evie repeated her order: "Tackle!" And nothing. Ori was lost in his own world, sending goo-goo eyes across the battle field.
Lexi laughed. "Cute Charm! That's what you get for having your nasty boy touch my little lady! He's in LOVE!" She didn't bother to explain about the Encore. Evie clearly didn't know it was a Pokemon move.
"Disarming Voice!"
Leffy the Clefairy made no indication of having heard the command, but instantly began singing. The tune started out nice and melodic before growing grating, as a beam of purple sound waves flew across the field, striking Ori where he stood-- or rather, floated. As the attack was executed, she went right back to having perfect posture, flirting as she batted her eyes across the field. Had to keep up pretenses if she wanted to keep Ori in love with her enough that he wouldn't hit her.
"Ori!" Evie cried out, desperate to get his attention.
This time, the ghost seemed to snap out of it, glancing over his shoulder to Evie uncertainly.
"Tackle!"
The Phantump hesitated for a moment before flying forward, however, instead of a Tackle, his hand immediately started to glow, and another Shadow Claw was formed. As it did, Ori seemed to panic, not wanting to hit Leffy, but not wanting to displease his trainer, either. In his moment of hesitation, another shout of, "Disarming Voice!" echoed across the battlefield, followed by another beam of purple sound waves sending him flying.
The Pokemon crashed to the ground before floating up slowly, looking at Leffy ruefully. If she loved him the way he loved her, why would she keep attacking like that? They were in a battle, but he couldn't bring himself to hurt her!
"Ori, listen! All's fair in love and war, okay? ... This is both. I get that you really like her, but you need to attack! We can really win this!" Evie was trying really hard not to let her frustration through her voice. Here was her Phantump, her best battler, failing to attack and failing to follow orders. Rather that get mad, she tried to understand where he was coming from. If it was that Clefairy's ability, then there was nothing they could do about it. All of her Pokemon were boys.
Ori sighed to himself and nodded slightly, glancing to Leffy apologetically.
"Great, now Shadow Claw! You've got this!"
Ori nodded again, appearing morose, before launching into his attack. This time, the attack was executed nearly flawlessly, but he withheld some of the strength, throwing Leffy to the side while a small sob escaped his mouth.
And Evie realized how cruel it was to make him continue the battle this way. She still had Casimir. He would be able to fight well enough, and his Poison typing gave him an advantage. "Enough, Ori, come back!" she called out, pulling her Pokeball.
But he refused.
He shook his head resolutely, not wanting to disappoint his trainer. As much as he was infatuated with this Clefairy, he loved his trainer more. He wanted to make Evie proud, to prove he was a strong, capable member of their team, even if he was still young. He couldn't fall in love with the enemy! With those reminders, he stood his ground, looking at the Clefairy with a determined expression.
And the Clefairy absolutely balked in response. The Pokemon looked shocked to see the Phantump ignoring its feelings for her. Wasn't she cute? Wasn't she lovely? He had to love her. The boys always loved her.
Lexi looked flustered, but frustrated as well. "Sing, Leffy! Sing your heart out and put him to sleep! Then we'll blast him to oblivion with your Disarming Voice! Show everyone your power!"
The Clefairy nodded, following orders exactly as they were called out, and began to sing. This time, the melody was soft and soothing, and even Evie felt sleepy. She could swear she saw barely-visible waves coming from the Clefairy's mouth, going straight for Ori.
"Move, Ori! Up! Shadow Claw!" She had finally decided to embrace the Pokemon's penchant for Shadow Claw, still ignorant of Encore's effects. Maybe, one day, she would learn that that was, in fact, a move forcing him to only use that attack. Maybe not.
Ori followed directions, shooting upwards and missing the Sing, just barely. The music was so beautiful though... He definitely had slowed down as his body involuntarily began to relax. However, he knew what he had to do: he flew forward with a Shadow Claw armed and ready and struck down atop the Clefairy's head, forcing her down into the snow.
She didn't get up.
"AND EVIE IS THE WINNER!" the announcer cried out, causing cheers across the audience.
"THIS ISN'T OVER!!" Lexi called out, returning her Clefairy and pulling out a fourth ball. "Daddy said only use Lux in an emergency, but this is one!" she screamed, hurling the ball and releasing a particularly angry looking Luxray that didn't seem all that interested in obeying her to begin with.
"The battle is over! Return your Pokemon immediately!" the announcer called out.
Evie looked on in shock, feeling a bit embarrassed for Lexi's outburst. She returned Ori to his ball so it'd be clear she wasn't engaging and took a few steps back.
A judge came forward and pulled Evie to the side, allowing her to escape the crowd, and taking her to the nurses to heal up before the next round of battles started. Another judge and the announcer seemed to be arguing with Lexi, while the Luxray sat about, not really interested in dealing with her.
Evie shrugged off the ruckus and focused on resting for a moment, grabbing herself a hot chocolate to sip at while the next round of battles commenced.

As Evie sipped at her hot chocolate, watching the next fight, she admired the way the old man [managed to command his Pokemon. He was clearly skilled in battle, and Evie found herself kind of worried that she'd end up battling him. Would she be able to win? That Delcatty... It looked pretty tough. Regardless, she waited near the nurse's station while their team of Audino and Blissey used their healing moves to restore their energy, all while providing them with berries to snack on as well. And within minutes, the battle was over. John had demolished his second opponent, and the battlefield was once again being coated in snow.
"And that's the end of the first battle of round two! John, our two time champion, has won again!" the announcer cried out, earning more cheers from the happy crowd. They were just happy that obnoxious girl had gone away.
"And without further ado, let's bring out Harrison and Evie! The field's all yours!"
Evie stepped up to battle, sizing up her opponent as she did. He appeared to be about her age as well, wearing a hoodie and no winter wear, but he didn't seem bothered by the cold. He adjusted the cap on his head a bit before nodding to her. "Ready?"
"Whenever you are," Evie responded.
A trainer Harrison wants to fight!
Lunatone
Level: 9 Ability: Levitate Moves: 4 Moveset: 1- Rock Throw 2- Confusion 3- Rock Polish 4- Hypnosis
Bio Lunatone doesn't seem to be incredibly focused...All the excitement and noise around seem to make it just want to float away to play, but work comes before that. It vibrates in anticipation, clearly wanting to get the battle done fast and cleanly Ekans (Female) Level: 12 Ability: Intimidate Moves: 5 Moveset: 1- Wrap 2- Glare 3- Poison Fang 4- Disable 5- Leer Bio This Ekans seems to be a lot more eager to fight. The snake is clearly very cocky and self assured of its own strength, and won't stop trying to intimidate the competition and show off to everyone else at the same time. Duskull (Male) Level: 7 Ability: Levitate Moves: 4 Moveset: 1- Leer 2- Night Shade 3- Disable 4- Pain Split Bio This is clearly the younger one of the bunch, but Duskull seems to vibrate with laughter and mischievous intentions. It rubs its tiny hands looking your way, eager to put on a show
Harrison pulled out a Pokeball, and releasing a Lunatone that levitated over the field. It didn't seem particularly focused on the battle at hand; its eyes drifting longingly to the well decorated trees, as if it wanted to go explore them.
Evie studied her opponent for a moment, hesitating as she pulled out Ori's Pokeball. It seemed the Phantump had the best typing to take on a Rock/Psychic type. Casimir would be weak against it, and Lucien would hardly be able to damage it. "Ori, you're up!"
The Phantump was clearly still energized from his last battle. With his energy restored by the nurses at the nurse station, he was ready to go, much more so than the distracted Lunatone.
"Luna, Rock Polish! Let's focus!" Harrison called out. He watched Ori with interest, marveling at the odd coloration.
"Ori, let's start with... Confuse Ray! Followed up with Shadow Claw!" She knew Tackle wouldn't be all that effective against a rock, and she couldn't imagine Ori would appreciate that order anyway.
Ori immediately went to work, his eyes flashing with a sinister light for a moment as he made eye contact with the Lunatone, instantly confusing it. The Pokemon was already so distracted, it was easy.
Meanwhile, the Lunatone listened to its trainer, slightly unfocused, and it began to glow white as it boosted its speed. It clearly was able to move quicker, floating about speedily, but was so distracted by the festival around it that it didn't notice when Ori went flying forward with a Shadow Claw.
"Move!!" Harrison called out, but it was too late.
The Shadow Claw struck head on, pushing the levitating Pokemon back a good deal while Lunatone looked around dizzily, as if trying to find out where the attack came from. Was that even an attack? It kinda hurt...
"Rock Throw!" Harrison called out, gritting his teeth as he realized his Pokemon was paying virtually no attention to the battle. The last round had definitely gone a lot smoother.
"... Shadow Claw again?" Evie could hear the frustration in Harrison's command, but pushed on anyway. They were in it to win it. This wasn't a Contest anyway; it was a battle. Variety isn't as important.
Lunatone seemed to hear Harrison's command and slammed itself into the ground, attempting a Rock Throw. ... But instead, managed to get a face full of snow and half embed itself into the frozen ground, clearly harming itself in its confusion. The Pokemon's eyes welled up with tears and it wailed in frustration. All it wanted to do was go enjoy the festival, not battle! And now, here it was, stuck and unable to get itself out of the ground, and it was dizzy, and nothing was going its way at all!
Harrison looked on and face palmed. He shook his head, his ears tinging red in embarrassment. He knew the Lunatone was young and easily distracted, but still... "Come on, Luna, get out of the ground." His voice was tense, and he was clearly trying to have patience with the Pokemon, despite his rocky start to the battle against Evie.
Ori, meanwhile, took advantage of the situation and landed a second Shadow Claw, this one actually hitting at full strength, right on Lunatone's nose.
The Pokemon continued to wail and try to pull itself out of the ground.
"Hypnosis!" Harrison snapped.
And Luna obeyed, stopping its crying and glaring at Ori, eyes flashing red. And within seconds, the ghost was on the ground, sleeping soundly.
"Get out of the ground! ... You know what, whatever, Confusion!" Harrison called out. At least now, their target was motionless.
"Ori, wake up!" Evie called out, but to no avail. Her Pokemon was out cold. She hesitated a moment, glancing at the Lunatone, before calling out again. "You've got this, Ori! Wake up! Snap out of it!"
The Lunatone struggled to get out of the ground once more, finally yanking itself free as its eyes flashed blue, tossing Ori aside and into the ground a few feet away with its Confusion.
That was enough to snap Ori out of it, and the ghost shot up, rubbing its eyes blearily.
"Come on, Ori, one more Shadow Claw should do it!"
"Rock Throw-- WAIT NO, Confusion!" Harrison immediately ate his words, terrified the Lunatone would get itself stuck in the ground once more. However, it was too late for the confused Meteorite Pokemon. The Lunatone slammed itself into the ground again, meeting the same fate. It flailed again, attempting to free itself, but was an easy target for Ori's last attack.
The Phantump flew forward and slammed its claw into the Lunatone, defeating it.
At least this battle was interesting thanks to the amusement provided by the Lunatone.
"Lunatone is unable to battle! Phantump is the victor!" the announcer called out as both trainers withdrew their Pokemon.
"Nice job," Harrison called out casually, trying to remain cool. "This next one won't be so easy." He summoned a calm Ekans to the field. Based on its demeanor, Evie was confident she wouldn't have the advantage of distraction on her side.
"All right, Luce, it's your time to shine!" Evie called, releasing her Ralts to the field. She knew she'd have the type advantage this time around, but that Ekans looked vicious. This wasn't going to be an easy battle by any means.
Lucien faced the Ekans and immediately felt a chill down his spine. He shifted nervously under the unwavering gaze of the poison-type and hesitated. Was this even worth it? He shook his head, clearing it before facing his opponent head on. After all, he was in this for Evie. He'd make her proud.
"Leer, and Poison Fang!" Harrison called out, not bothering to wait for Evie to make a move. The first strike would be important this round since the Ralts clearly had the type advantage.
The Ekans went to work, coiling up to Leer at Lucien, freezing him in place for a moment. He was frightened of this Pokemon, and that fright was enough to lower his defenses, rendering him a bit more vulnerable to attack. With its prey immobilized, the Ekans darted forward with blinding speed, lashing out and biting Lucien with sharp, toxic fangs.
The bite left a mark across Lucien's arm that was quickly turning red, and Lucien cried out in pain.
Shocked about the night and day comparison between Harrison's Lunatone and Ekans, Evie realized she really needed to get her head in the game. "Double Team and Confusion!" That combination had never failed her before, and she was willing to execute it again.
Lucien winced in pain as he held his bitten arm. He seemed to have avoided a Poisoning this time around, but likely wouldn't be so lucky next time. Breathing heavily, he began a Double Team, creating two doppelgangers while all three flashed blue for an instant as a Confusion threw the Ekans backwards. The attack was super effective, and the Ekans rose, glaring angrily at the three Ralts in front of it.
"Poison Fang the middle one!" Harrison called out. "And if that's not it, go left!"
"Confusion!" Evie was hoping the Double Team would be enough to keep another Poison Fang from landing. In the mean time, she'd focus on the offense, since Luce really couldn't take more than another hit without losing the round.
The Ekans shot through the middle Double Team apparition, snapping its jaws into nothing, causing it to fade. Just then, another Confusion hit, pushing its scaly head down toward the ground, filling its mouth with snow. Unwilling to be deterred, the snake darted to the left, aiming at the Double Team's chest. In a blur of purple and gold, the Ekans shot through the air.
"Protect!!" Evie cried out when she realized the Ekans was going for the right Ralts. She flinched, holding her breath, hoping Lucien would be able to react in time. The Ekans was definitely fast and ruthless. She was beginning to worry they wouldn't be able to beat it.
Lucien stumbled backward, the last Double Team fading away as he desperately tried to escape the snake's snapping maw, fearing the fangs that were dripping venom into the snow. The snow sizzled away where the venom fell. It was clearly potent. The Ralts raised its hands in front of itself, trying desperately to summon a Protect, but it only half materialized by the time the Ekans was close enough to shatter the whole thing, flying through the unfinished barrier and snapping its jaws around Lucien's chest.
The scream that came from the Ralts was unnerving. Evie immediately felt her eyes well up with tears, certain she could feel some of his pain herself. The Ekans was refusing to let go of its prey, holding its jaws in place tightly, letting the venom really sink into the small Pokemon's body before dropping him to the ground, slithering away and coiling up, ready for its next command.
Evie felt herself shaking as a tear dropped down her face. Lucien was struggling to stand up, looking violently ill. She had never seen her Pokemon in such a condition. This was what she had always feared; her Pokemon being harmed in the line of battle. They were lucky this time- Luce was still alive, but that attack was vicious.
"You giving up?" Harrison called across the field. His arms were crossed and he was waiting behind his Ekans to see what Evie would do next. "Your Ralts can't battle like that. Return it and let's keep going, or forfeit."
Evie frowned, biting her lip. She knew he was right. Lucien was clearly poisoned, but slowly rose to his feet. He wasn't going to remain conscious much longer. "Luce..." She looked him over, shocked when she realized he was staring right at her. His expression, while pained, was full of determination to win the battle. He wanted to keep going, but Evie wasn't sure he'd be able to manage.
"Clock's ticking!" Harrison called out. His Ekans flicked a tongue into the air, watching impassively.
"If you want to keep battling, fine. Confusion!"
"You're not done? Poison Fang."
"Protect!"
The Protect shot up first, blocking the Ekans from striking, and Lucien began a Confusion, but stumbled forward before crumpling to the ground, unable to battle further.
Evie winced as she watched her partner succumb to the effects of the Ekans' poison, and returned him in a flash of red light. She made a mental note to be sure to give him plenty of love and attention later during the festival. He had tried his hardest, and even though he had the type advantage, the Ekans was too powerful. On the other hand, Ori still had energy, and Casimir hadn't even been brought out during this battle. They could still win this. Lucien's defeat wouldn't be in vain!
"And that was a nasty knockout by poison for Ekans! Evie is down to two Pokemon, what will she choose next?"
Evie hesitated a moment before finally pulling out her Nidoran. At least he'd be immune to the poison the Ekans used to defeat Lucien. "Cass, let's go! Focus Energy and Peck!" She watched the Ekans warily. It would be immune to Casimir's Poison Point ability as well, but she was fairly confident the Nidoran didn't know any poison moves yet anyway. Double Kick wouldn't be very useful, but Peck was a flying move. It'd do full damage.
The Nidoran stomped his foot, lowering his head and closing his eyes for a moment, focusing all of his inner strength.
"Wrap!"
The poison-type flung itself forward, slithering through the snow as quickly as it could manage, eyes locked on target. The Pokemon threw itself forward, quickly wrapping its lithe body around Casimir, restricting his movement, tightening itself as he struggled and peering down at him menacingly, golden eyes gleaming with self-satisfaction.
Casimir squealed and struggled to escape, but to no avail. It quickly became apparent that escape was not an option, and the small Nidoran stopped moving altogether before flinging his head backwards, jamming his horn into the Ekans's neck as he did so in a Peck.
The Ekans hissed in pain, recoiling angrily as it Leered down at the Nidoran.
"Glare!"
"Eyes closed, Peck!" Evie hoped that by avoiding eye contact, maybe they'd avoid the paralyzing effects of the Glare.
As the Ekans turned its head around to Glare into Casimir's eyes, the Nidoran firmly shut his own, blocking out the gaze, and again flung his head, smacking the Ekans right on the nose with his Peck.
The Ekans hissed with pain again as its nose was hit, and as Casimir continued to bash its head into the snake's. After three quick Pecks in a row, including a particularly painful one, strengthened by the previous Focus Energy, the snake dropped to the ground, defeated.
As the Ekans' body went limp, Casimir was able to push himself out from its Wrap, mostly undamaged from the battle. He was a little sore after the squeeze, but other than that, he was raring to continue battling. He looked up to Evie with an impassive expression, stoic as always, and waited to hear what the human had to say. His ears twitched just slightly as the crowd around them cheered, but he didn't move a muscle.
Harrison returned his Ekans and smirked, pulling out his final Pokeball. "Nice save," he announced, pressing the button to expand the ball before releasing his final Pokemon to the battlefield. A Duskull materialized in the air, levitating and rubbing its hands together mischievously. It looked younger than the other Pokemon Evie and her team had seen, and she hoped that this was a sign they were in for an easy battle.
"Focus Energy and Peck!" She knew that Double Kick would be useless, and that was her lucky move when it came to Casimir. The Pokemon had a particularly strong kick, but that would do nothing to the ghost. Oddly enough, however, Peck would be just fine. Evie made a mental note to understand the intricacies of Ghost-types later on to figure out why some physical attacks hit whereas others were useless.
"Leer!" Harrison called out, watching with an inscrutable expression. He clearly had something planned, although it wasn't obvious what it was.
The Duskull glared menacingly at Casimir, letting its single red eye drift back and forth between the two holes in the skull it wore as it continued to levitate in place, not bothering to move from its spot. The Pokemon simply hovered.
At least it'd be an easy target. Casimir ignored the Leer, focusing his energy before throwing himself forward, his feet drumming against the ground before he kicked off, throwing himself toward the Duskull. His horn on his nose began to glow white for a moment as he rammed it into the skull's orbital opening, throwing the Duskull down toward the ground while the Nidoran tried to maneuver through the air to land standing up.
The Duskull hit the ground with a surprising amount of force for a ghost, and slowly hovered up, back to its previous position maybe two feet off the ground, letting its red eye drift back and forth. It made a silly face at Casimir, drawing laughter from the crowd around them. "Leer again." And so it did.
For some strange reason, the Pokemon was not being ordered to attack.
"Cass, let's go with another Peck!" Evie was watching the ghost nervously; aside from the one mock battle between Lucien and Ori, she had never fought a ghost before, and this seemed vastly different from Ori's battle. Then again, Ori was far less strong than the Duskull at the time of battle.
Casimir repeated his previous tactic, keeping a passive expression on his face as he jumped, Pecked, and landed on the ground, retreating carefully, his eyes never leaving his opponent. The Nidoran was meant for battle, and despite his small, reserved demeanor, he was adept at getting in and doing what had to be done.
As the Duskull weakly floated up from the ground, Evie hoped that maybe this was it. Maybe they were going to have a simple battle that would be over in seconds. A total knockout. That'd be nice, but Evie was still wary. This didn't seem like the previous tactic Harrison had been using. This wasn't the brutal battling style he had employed with the Ekans.
"Peck!" Evie called out, although her uncertainty in her voice betrayed her. As Casimir moved to attack, he seemed to hesitate just slightly, reacting to his trainer.
"Pain Split."
The Duskull clapped in glee, his entire body glowing green for a moment while Casimir's glowed an ominous red. The Peck was disrupted midair by the Nidoran's squeals of pain as energy was ripped from him and absorbed by the Duskull, putting them at an equal standing energy-wise.
Casimir fell to the ground, shocked by the attack, and slowly pushed himself up. He wore a determined expression on his face, glaring up at the Duskull. "Leer and Peck again!"
"Leer."
Both Pokemon glared at each other, desperately trying to intimidate the other to lower defenses, however both failed. Casimir broke their glaring contest by charging forward, flinging the Duskull across the field with his horn. This battle was getting monotonous really quickly.
"Peck! Fast!" Evie called out, hoping that maybe they'd manage to get the last attack in before Harrison managed to Pain Split again. She was certain that that would be his next move; his Duskull looked hardly able to move as it forced itself up.
Sure enough, "Pain Split and Night Shade!"
Casimir charged through the attack, fighting through the drain on his energy, realizing that he was dangerously low on stamina. He knew this would be it, and he put his all into attacking. As his energy was sapped away by the Duskull, he threw himself through the air one more time, just as the Duskull's eyes began to glow in preparation for the Night Shade, and the Peck landed.
It was a critical hit.
The Duskull was knocked to the ground, but this time, made no indication of getting up.
"And the winner is Evie! Harrison's final Pokemon has been defeated in a close battle!"
Evie grinned, her heart racing as she realized that she had won the battle. "Great job, Casimir, return!" she called out, pulling out the Pokeball and recalling her Pokemon in a flash of red. She turned to look for the nurses, desperate to have Lucien all healed up.
"Good game," Harrison called out. He had returned his Pokemon and approached Evie, holding his out to shake it. He was clearly much more of a good sport compared to her previous opponent and Evie truly appreciated that.
The teen held out her hand, shaking his and nodded. "I wasn't sure we'd manage to land that last hit," she admitted with a sheepish grin. "You're a great battler!"
He scoffed a bit. "If I were great, you wouldn't have beat me," he retorted with a wink. "Go get your team rested up. The next battle will start soon." And with that said, he disappeared into the crowd.
Evie looked in the direction he had gone for a moment, unsure what to think, but turned back around, approaching the nurse's station and handing over her Pokeballs before sitting down to rest a moment until the next battle. This was it! She was going to the final round!

Evie's rest was short-lived, and as soon as her Pokemon were healed up and ready for battle again, the announcer was calling for her and John to take the battlefield.
"Well, hello there again, missy!" he called out jovially, grinning across the field. "It's a pleasure to be encountering you in such a situation! Just because I treated you to coffee, though, doesn't mean I'll be going easy on you. You've made it this far, now try your best to defeat me and my team in battle! We've been together longer than you've been alive, Delcatty and me, and we have no intention to losing to a whippersnapper like you!" While the speech may have seemed harsh, he meant it with the purest of intentions. The old man would put his all into his battle, unwilling to lose to the next generation just yet. He still had life in him, and wasn't about to let that slip away!
Evie smiled, although it betrayed her nervousness. Between seeing Lucien tossed about like a rag doll earlier and her own previous reservations about becoming a trainer in the first place, Evie felt her nerves knotting up in her stomach, and for a split second, all she wanted to do was turn the other way and run. However, she owed it to her Pokemon to stay strong. If Luce could do it after being poisoned, she could too.
John wants to fight!
Delcatty♀
Level: 10 Ability: Normalise Moves: 4 Moveset: 1- Fake Out 2- Tackle 3- Foresight 4- Attract
Bio Evolved much too soon, this pokémon still tries to act very young, tiring herself out much too early in fights and otherwise. Ocasionally she'll try to act her appearance as opposed to her level, but gets bored of it very quickly.

Klefki
Level: 11 Ability: Prankster Moves: 5 Moveset: 1- Fairy Wind 2- Tackle 3- Astonish 4- Fairy Lock 5- Metal Sound
Bio Prankster starts to describe how this Klefki acts. More like complete and utter pain in the arse. It will misbehave, do things it's not told to and generally do anything it can to be completely unpredictable and care free.

Spoink♂
Level: 8 Ability: Own Tempo Moves: 4 Moveset: 1- Splash 2- Psywave 3- Amnesia
Bio While not the strongest, this Spoink tends to be the calmest and most mature of the three. Let those kids and troublemakers do what they want, he can sit and quietly bounce his worries away.
John pulled out a Pokeball and focused on it for a moment, studying it intensely. His face showed all the wisdom of his many years, and when he looked up from his ball, his eyes were burning with passion that would rival any youth. "Della, let's go!" he called out, summoning his Delcatty to his side.
The Pokemon meowed playfully and stretched out, tail twitching playfully for a moment and eyes gleaming with kittenlike glee. However, upon realizing what she was doing, she straightened out and held her head high and with grace.
Evie studied the Pokemon for a moment, reveling it the power she knew it would possess. It was a fully evolved Pokemon; none of hers had even hit their first evolution stage. Would she even stand a chance? She shook off her doubt before pulling out Lucien's ball, looking down at it affectionately. He was her first partner, and she felt much more in sync battling with him than either of her other Pokemon. "Lucien, it's your turn!"
The Ralts materialized onto the snowy field and remained motionless for a moment, staring up at his opponent. He seemed eerily calm after the incident with the Ekans, as if he were mulling over what had happened before so he could ensure it didn't happen again.
"Ready?" she called out, to both Lucien and John. She kept her gaze on her Pokemon, watching as he dipped his head in agreement and prepared to fight.
"Fake-out!" John called out, rather than calling his affirmation.
Evie, caught off guard, cried out, "Protect!"
The Delcatty was too quick. She flew forward and slapped her front paws right in front of Lucien's face as he brought his arms upward to clap in his face, sending a shockwave flying at him and causing him to stumble backwards, flinching and losing a split moment of precious time.
As the attack struck, John snapped out another command, not bothering to waste time with pleasantries. He was clearly in it to win, and was going to give it his all to the end. "Attract."
"Double Team and Growl!"
The battle was moving quickly. It was one command after the other with little time to react.
As the Delcatty blinked demurely, she purred. She gave Lucien her best seductive smile and let her tail swish behind her. With a wink, she blew a few heart-shaped bubbles of energy toward the Ralts. Her entire demeanor changed and she flashed an affectionate, bashful glance to Lucien.
Lucien, despite knowing he shouldn't watch or pay the flirtatious Delcatty any attention, could not pull his gaze away. His Double Team slowed, each of the doppelgangers he had created with his speed fading out, before he ceased darting between the positions altogether. The Ralts seemed to be blushing a bit, staring longingly at the Delcatty. His heart felt ready to explode, especially once she winked. Could Pokemon swoon? If so, Lucien was dangerously close. He didn't even manage a growl.
Evie sighed and shook her head as she realized there was nothing she could do. She looked on with disappointment as Lucien was controlled by his infatuation, too lost to the Delcatty's feminine wiles to do a thing. Her entire team, she noted with a heavy heart, was dangerously vulnerable to the flirting of female Pokemon. This was twice today that one of her Pokemon found himself compelled to not attack in the name of "love."
"Tackle." John's voice was cold and in control. He was clearly wasting no time in this battle.
"Protect! Confusion! Luce, do something " Evie found herself practically begging for her Pokemon to do anything but gawk at his newfound crush. She knew the desperation in her voice was frowned upon; it showed weakness and a lack of control, but frankly, Evie no longer cared. She just wanted to get her Ralts out of this battle in one piece. And that included his heart
The Delcatty meowed happily and frolicked a bit in the snow, kicking it up playfully and batting at a clump on the ground before snapping to attention and gleefully running straight for Lucien, muscles tense and ready to pounce as soon as she was within range.
Lucien seemed to perk up at the sound of Evie's voice and distractedly flashed her a smile before being tackled to the ground, locked in the Delcatty's embrace. The two Pokemon rolled a few times, and Lucien was clearly on cloud nine, until his opponent dropped him and slammed her head into the Ralts, sending him to the ground.
That seemed to be enough to convince Lucien to move. The little Pokemon pushed himself up with an expression of utter betrayal. If the Ralts could cry, his eyes would definitely be filled with tears. With a betrayed sob escaping his throat, he focused on a Confusion, putting in as much power as he could into the attack.
The Delcatty froze for a moment, shocked when she realized that her plaything was getting ready to attack her. He could resist her charm? No one resists her charm! Instead of trying to dodge the attack, she rolled over in an attempt to be cute, hoping to dissuade the Psychic from attacking. She had no such luck, however, and she found herself under the assault of Lucien's Confusion.
Lucien unleashed his full power in retaliation, pushing the Pokemon across the ground and forcing her down. The Delcatty's head struck the ground and she squeaked in pain, eyes wide.
"Tackle."
"Protect! Confusion! "
As the Delcatty charged forward, fueled by anger, Lucien put both his hands in front of him, instantly bringing up a teal barrier just prior to the Tackle landing, forcing the Delcatty to slam into the barrier head first. As the Delcatty stumbled back dizzily, Lucien struck out again, using his mental strength to toss his opponent backwards.
The Delcatty remained down for a moment, breathing heavily before pushing herself up to standing. Lucien was also panting; the mental exertion was quickly catching up to him. He was tired. Neither Pokemon were particularly experienced, and neither had the endurance for a long battle.
"Tackle."
"Double Team! Confusion!"
Both Pokemon put their all into their final attacks, knowing this would be the last. Lucien picked up speed, making an illusion of two of him, giving him a 50% chance at avoiding the attack while he mustered up the strength to give one final Confusion. He focused on the Delcatty as much as he could while simultaneously moving between positions, hoping he'd be missed by the Tackle.
No such luck, however. At the last minute, realizing the Tackle would hit, he unleashed the Confusion, dampening the blow and causing the Delcatty to stumble and crash to the ground, defeated.
Lucien remained standing on wobbly legs before collapsing to his knees. He was completely spent.
The old man smiled, returning his Delcatty to the ball before pulling out another Pokeball. "It's no wonder you've made it this far. However, you cannot beat my next Pokemon."
Evie returned Lucien to his ball, looking to John while hesitating to pull her next ball. She wasn't sure if Ori or Casimir would be the right choice.
A moment later, in a flash of red, a small set of what appeared to be keys floated in the air. "Klefki." John said. The Pokemon jingled its keys happily before looking to Evie, an odd expression on its face.
Something about the Fairy made Evie apprehensive for this next battle. "Cass. You're up!" She wasn't one-hundred percent sure of her decision to bring her Nidoran out, but knew that Fairies were supposed to be weak to poison, right? Maybe the Poison Point ability would be useful.
John scoffed at her. "Fairy Lock." The command sent his Pokemon into action, and the Klefki jangled, glowing faintly for a moment. The aura repeated around Casimir, locking the Pokemon into battle.
"Klefki is part Steel-type." He quirked a brow, looking at the teen as her heart sank. "And he won't be recalled now."
Evie blinked in surprise, trying to return Casimir to his ball, but finding that the energy beam that would have absorbed him into the ball was negated. As soon as the beam struck the Pokemon, it seemed to break, as if she had tried to absorb an inanimate object.
"Double Kick!" Evie's brow was furrowed as she desperately tried to piece together a battling plan. Poison Point would be useless here. As a Steel-type, Klefki would be immune to the venom.
"Tackle."
The fairy darted forward, cackling gleefully as it did, seeming as if it was going to run right into the Double Kick that Casimir was preparing. Just as the Nidoran kicked out, the Klefki pulled back and launched a Fairy Wind instead. The burst of pink aura shot out in a dazzling display, hitting Casimir and knocking him off balance.
The Nidoran tumbled through the snow before regaining his balance. The attack barely fazed the Poison-type, and he charged once more to repeat the Double Kick. This time, his kick connected, launching the small fairy flying.
"Astonish!" John seemed a bit irritated that his Pokemon clearly wasn't obeying. If it didn't listen, then it was going to be in for a bad time. There was no way it could manage to win this on its own. Against a wild Pokemon, maybe, but not against a trained Pokemon and his trainer.
"Dodge it! Leer!" Evie noticed her opponent's demeanor. Was his Pokemon disobeying against John's will?
The Pokemon both moved into action. The Klefki jingled its keys as it prepared for an Astonish, but at the last moment, he turned the Astonish into a Tackle, slamming into the Nidoran before darting away, out of his reach. He clearly had a plan in mind for how to battle on his own.
"Just focus on landing an attack, Cass, whenever you can! I trust you!" Clearly the Fairy was at an advantage if it could hear each of her commands and could react before her Nidoran could even act. She didn't have that same advantage, since the Klefki behaved however it pleased without regard to orders. By telling Casimir to battle on his own, she took out that advantage.
John frowned at the tactic. A competitive battle in which the trainer left things up to the Pokemon? That's not a League battle at all! Regardless, he continued on. "Fairy Wind!" His voice was growing irritated and he clearly was not going to let this go on for too much longer.
Casimir growled softly, remaining crouched low to the ground as he watched the Klefki dart about unpredictably. He waited, ears twitching slightly and he chattered his teeth. Luckily for both Evie and Casimir, the Nidoran was the most level-headed of her team. The Pokemon was calm and reserved, and that would lend itself perfectly to this battle. The Nidoran wouldn't waste his energy and leave himself open to attacks mid-battle by trying too hard. He'd wait until the time was perfect and strike. He took a deep breath, using Focus Energy to clear his mind and focus all of his power to his back legs. The other human had called out an order; wouldn't the Klefki be charging soon?
Sure enough, the Pokemon did. Its body glowed pink for a moment, as if it were actually going to obey, but a devious grin crossed its features and it darted forward, cackling as it did. There was no way the Nidoran could endure too many more hits! It had already bashed the little purple thing around quite a bit.
As the Klefki charged forward, Casimir spun himself around when it was too late for the fairy to easily change its direction. He flung is back legs out, kicking once, then twice. Both hits connected and the Klefki crashed to the ground with an unceremonious jingle of keys. The Nidoran had landed a critical hit, stunning the Klefki for a moment.
The Nidoran charged again and used Double Kick once more, sending the Klefki flying through the air. It crashed to the ground and remained there, defeated.
John's eyes widened in surprise before he shook his head, a bit of a defeated expression on his face. "That's what happens when you disobey." He wasn't speaking to anyone in particular, and despite the aggravation he felt toward the Pokemon for costing them the second round of their battle, he remained calm. In fact, he flashed a smile over to the girl and her Pokemon. "You are a surprising young trainer. However, my last Pokemon isn't nearly as easy to defeat."
Evie, despite feeling a bit concerned about John's assurance that they would not lose the battle, cheered for Casimir. "You did it! Great job, Cass! I knew you could!" She pulled out his Pokeball and looked proudly at the Nidoran, who stared up at her stoically, although the teen was certain she could see a glimmer of pride shining in his eyes prior to him returning to his ball.
John looked at his last Pokeball nostalgically, and for a few moments, he seemed lost in thought, a wistful smile tugging at his lips. "This is the end." He pressed the Pokeball's button and in a flash of light, a small bouncing Spoink appeared. The Pokemon bounced with a perfect rhythm, balancing the orb on his head as he did so. Despite its size implying youth, this Pokemon had a calm demeanor, not unlike Casimir's.
Evie watched it for a moment, feeling relief when she realized that her last Pokemon had a type advantage. "Ori, let's go." She kept her voice calm as she spoke, trying not to seem too cocky, although at that moment, she was certain the battle was in the bag. Ori had the type advantage here, and the Spoink was clearly young. It couldn't withstand more than maybe two or three hits from Ori.
The Phantump floated in the air, staring down his opponent with a grin on his face. A Psychic? Easy-peasy. There was no way this battle would take long at all.
"Amnesia."
The Spoink closed his eyes, focusing all of his energy on clearing his mind. As his mind emptied, his speed slowed, but his body glowed a faint blue as he bolstered his defenses. The Pokemon bounced slowly but rhythmically, not bothering to leave its place. After a moment, his eyes opened up. They were blank as they stared at the Phantump.
"Ori, let's go with Astonish!" Not wanting to actually hurt the Spoink, Evie elected for the weaker Ghost attack instead.
The Phantump eagerly complied, darting forward and screeching right in the Spoink's face, sending eerie pulses flying toward him.
The Spoink didn't seem fazed at all by the attack, despite his weakness to Ghost moves. He kept bouncing with that blank expression on his face, and the longer he bounced in place, the slower his moves got as he pushed aside his speed in favor of having stronger defenses. It seemed he was constantly using Amnesia.
"Psywave!" John called out, watching the battle carefully.
"Shadow Claw!"
By this point, Ori had Shadow Claw pretty much down. The Phantump focused for a split second, creating a gnarly looking claw out of a ghostly aura around his right hand and charged forward with blinding speed compared to the slow hops of the Spoink. He screeched a bit as he charged, blowing up some snow behind him before he swiped out, slashing at the Spoink and sending the Pokemon tumbling.
The Spoink's pearl fell from its head and rolled away into some snow, causing the Pokemon to look up in fright and desperately hop after it, leaving it wide open to attack. "Spoink, no! Forget the pearl!" John called out, although the order went unheard as the Pokemon hopped as fast as it could toward the pearl.
Evie hesitated, not wanting to attack it at such a vulnerable point. She could feel dozens of eyes stare her down, waiting for her to end the battle, but she couldn't bring herself to do so. She sighed, knowing she was going to regret what she was about to say, but did so anyway: "Ori, get the pearl back for it." As it stood, the pearl was rolling away faster than the little Spoink could bounce.
The crowd around them gasped and murmured among one another, but Evie ignored it, keeping her gaze firmly planted on her Pokemon.
Even Ori thought the idea was a little far-fetched, but he did as he was asked and darted forward, picking up the pearl and plopping it on Spoink's head before speeding off.
John quirked a brow, surprised by the move. "You're a strange girl, Evie. The battle was yours."
"How fair is it to win against a distracted opponent?" she called back, glancing over to the Spoink, who was happily bouncing in place, rubbing his pearl. "Shadow Claw again, Ori!" She couldn't help but wonder if that move would cost them the battle. As much as she doubted it, she couldn't get overly confident, or she'd be sure to mess up.
"Psywave!"
This time, given the distance between Ori and the Spoink, the Psywave shot out before the Phantump had reached his target. A barrage of odd waves flew toward him, pushing him down. His mind felt fuzzy and his entire body felt hot as the Psywave overtook him, but he charged forward anyway, completely missing his target.
Ori floated back dizzily, shaking his head in an attempt to clear it while trying to focus on the Spoink's location. It was quite a feat when the Pokemon could see two little bouncing objects.
Evie winced, noticing the wobbliness of her Pokemon and felt a wave of guilt. She could have won the battle, but it wouldn't have felt right. Sticking to her resolve, she took in a deep breath. "Let's try Shadow Claw again, Ori!"
"Splash."
Evie was floored when she heard the newest order to the Spoink. ... Was John throwing the battle? She glanced to Ori, who seemed to be hesitating just as much as she was, before he charged forward at the bouncing Pokemon, using Shadow Claw, and ending the battle.
The crowd cheered loudly as the end of the tournament had been reached. Finally. Now they could all go off and do more interesting things than watch battle after battle.

"And ladies and gentlemen! This concludes our annual Jujine Festival battle! Congratulations to our brand new champion, Evie!" The announcer spoke enthusiastically through his megaphone, and everyone cheered loudly again.
Evie blushed, returning Ori to his Pokeball, and waving sheepishly to the crowd. She hadn't intended to win the competition... She expected it to be good practice, but never in a million years did she think she'd come out on top. Regardless, here they were. It was her first major feat as a trainer, she realized. It was her first League victory, and while she didn't win a badge, she won pride in her team.
"Congratulations, Evie! And here is the grand prize! Your very own super special winter Pokemon!" The announcer walked over to her, carrying a blue pillow with a Premier Ball resting atop it. He offered the pillow to Evie, raising his eyebrows at her and encouraging her to take the ball.
"A-ah... Thank you!" she managed to squeak out. The girl was never good at public speaking or being in the spotlight. She reached out and took the small ball in her hand, rubbing a finger over it. She was still on stage and desperately wanted to know what was in the ball. However, she was pretty sure it'd be best to meet the Pokemon under a less stressful situation.
The crowd cheered again, calling for her to open the ball, and she eventually reluctantly did so. In a flash of dazzling red light, a small, blue and cream Pokemon materialized. The little thing was almost as round as the ball she came in, and the Pokemon looked up cheerily to Evie.
"Spheal spheal!!" she called out, clapping her fins together.
Evie smiled at the Pokemon. It wasn't necessarily something she had ever intended to catch, but she was happy to have a new friend, especially one that seemed as jolly as she did. "Hello there, new friend," she murmured, glad the Pokemon seemed oblivious to the cheering around them.
Before there was any more time to get to know the Spheal, the announcer handed Evie something else; a ribbon commemorating her victory as well as an envelope filled with a small sum of money for winning. It was a beautiful silvery color with the word 'Champion' emblazoned down it in gold embroidery, as well as the name of the competition in smaller font across the top. "Congratulations again!" he called out before ushering the teen and her new Pokemon off the stage.
Evie plucked up the Spheal and made her way to the back, searching for a quiet corner. The Spheal was surprisingly squishy in her arms, almost like a big bag filled with water. Surely, that was thanks to the thick fat coating the Pokemon, making her especially buoyant in water and protected from extreme temperatures. "I'll introduce you to the team in a few moments. Let's just get somewhere quiet," she told the Spheal, racking her brain for a name.
Before she could dwell on it, John made his way up to her, grinning sheepishly. His hands were in his pockets and he regarded Evie jovially. "Congrats, champ!" he called out. His demeanor seemed somewhat conflicted and he sighed. "Looks like it is time to let the new generation have their time, huh? Well, with a kind, just soul like yours, I think the world will be in great hands."
Evie blushed. "No, just... Naive." She smiled back at John. "It didn't feel right ending the battle when your Spoink was so defenseless and distracted. It wouldn't have felt like a real victory."
The Spheal looked up at her new trainer with wide eyes. Did she luck out and get a kind trainer? She had heard rumors that the trainers that win these contests that she was a prize for were seldom kind. However... Evie seemed different than she had imagined. Content, the Spheal grinned up at John and listened to him speak.
"Not naive. You've got a just heart, Evie. Keep it that way and you'll stay out of trouble." He smiled down at the teen before getting a faraway look in his eyes. "You remind me of someone dear to my heart. My granddaughter went traveling a few years ago. She was as idealistic as you are, Evie. She would never take the winning move, even when victory would otherwise be impossible. She cared more about being right than being victorious."
Evie nodded, unsure of how to respond.
"But anyway, don't let the ramblings of an old man keep you, little missy! Go enjoy the festival while it's still here!" And with that said, John patted her on the shoulder and walked away.
Evie blinked and watched him leave, lost in thought until the Spheal in her arm squirmed.
"Right! Let's get going. Oh, and I have the perfect name for you too," she announced, grinning down at the Pokemon. She patted her on the head as she walked off, searching for the nearest inn to get some rest. "How does Neva sound?" she offered as they walked.
"Spheal!" the Pokemon cried out in affirmation. That would be just fine, she decided, snuggling in against Evie's chest. She was at ease in the situation, certain that she'd enjoy adventuring with the strange, red-haired girl.
Evie nodded. "When we get to the inn, I'll show you your new teammates," she told the Pokemon before falling silent to reflect on the happenings of the last few hours It had been a busy day.
---
It didn't take long for her to reach an inn and settle down in a room. She was glad to be away from the hustle and bustle of the festival to enjoy a few moments of quiet. Reaching to her hip, she pulled out her three other Pokeballs, summoning Ori, Lucien, and Casimir to the room. Evie was still holding Neva to her chest, but gently set down the little blubber ball onto the ground to meet her new friends.
"This is Neva, guys. She was the... prize... for winning the competition. You all did so well!" She smiled down at everyone, unsure how she had gotten to this point. She now had four little Pokemon staring up at her, and they were doing great together. "Neva, meet Lucien, Ori, and Casimir!" She gestured to each Pokemon as she named him. "I know you'll all be good friends."
And with the introductions taken care of, Evie sat on the bed, leaning back against the pillow to let the Pokemon grow acquainted while she rested. The small chatter of the Pokemon on the floor didn't bug her one bit as she closed her eyes and settled down for a nap, kicking her shoes off the bed. Sleepily, she thought that they'd soon be challenging a gym leader. They had won the competition no problem. Did that mean that the gyms would be possible too?
She didn't get to think much further on the subject, however, as she quickly drifted to sleep to the sounds of Pokemon quietly playing nearby.
