Welcome to the Lorelii Islands. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Lorelii used to be a war torn continent with fighting going back so long that no one even remembered the reasoning for it any more. A lone Shiftry is said to have changed everything, literally splitting the continent into the series of islands there are today and bringing peace to the region. Now that itch to fight is coming back, and it's time to start your journey. The League has only recently reached this collection of islands, and so have you. Catch, train, battle and conquer. Or set up a bakery by the sea. Become a Gym's janitor. Map, chart, explore and become the very best at whatever you want to do.

Sona

Sona breathed a sigh of relief. She'd been feeling like she'd been moving for ages to get away from that stupid southern place. Rather than stop for breaks or whatever she followed the crowds, not really caring about where she'd end up.

It turned out that a lot of the people were heading in the same direction for a reason, them all moving towards Jujine Town towards the festival being held there. The moment her tired feet caught up with it all and made her pause long enough to realise it she dreaded it. Lots of people all together tended to get less and less caring.

Rather than stick around forever, she moved out to one side, trying to find anywhere on the outside of town that would be quieter than the packed streets watching pokémon battles and trying to fill out a maze to find an end that probably didn't even exist.

Everything was all over the place. There was stuff seemingly going on everywhere until she found somewhere that even the most festive of people didn't turn up. There was a small temple, a tiny shrine to some deity that she'd never heard of and probably wouldn't remember afterwards anyway.

It was a pretty place though, chimes of all sorts of colours hanging around everywhere, being rung gently by the wind. The whole place seemed to be made of wood, the structure standing alone with only a small area for the people who helped to maintain it. The trees around the outside were already starting to look bare with the leaves shed, but the piles around the outside managed to at least keep the place clean without them soaking and getting stuck to the ground.

It left the whole place seeming very open and almost isolated. Without the cover of the trees you could see how barren the area really was. The chimes and foundation was about all that was left.

However barren it looked, Sona looked relieved. When she found out however that the main area of the temple was closed due to the owners and main support staff being down in the town doing some advertising and helping out, she was a little more upset. Everything was going on down there where all the people were. While part of her could understand, the rest was just annoyed.

She could see the chimes however, and hear the soft sounds and music that they made. There was music being played by nature and there was something more than nothing here.

She moved over towards them, ignoring any signs about the place being closed. There wasn't anyone here to stop her anyway.

She danced around, tapping on the chimes to create the sound in a way which was much stronger sound than the wind could. It took her a while of dancing around tapping to find out which ones produced unique notes before one being tapped wrapped the tag around her hand, making her flinch backwards, pulling the bell from its holding place.

"Chime!" it called out, looking rather annoyed at everything that was going on.

Sona recoiled, looking surprised at the pokémon who had let itself be known. She looked around quickly, trying to spot what was going on before she realised that each of the chimes that she'd been tapping on to make ring all unhooked themselves from their positions, flying over to surround her.

She started to back herself away, looking for a corner to hide away from them before she seemed to realise that while they'd been awoken they weren't being vicious about it. If anything they looked more like they were happy to have found a person who was happy to play instead of just listen and be boring about it all.

"What's with all the noise? Come on, you can't be all- Who are you?" a bored looking attendant came out after hearing the ringing of all the Chimecho, seemingly about to tell them off before he caught sight of Sona. "This is a restricted area girl, you can't just be hanging around where you don't belong."

Sona froze, frowning. She started to move to get her tablet out, to try to communicate what was going on, only to find its battery had died. She really needed to work on remembering to charge that thing. As much as she wasn't keen on cities, electricity was good.

The attendant shook his head at seeing her just start to mess around with her things rather than say anything or move to leave. He sighed, moving over to grab her by the wrist and drag her out if need be before the Chimecho seemed to realise the intend, forming a wall of a mixture of themselves and some psychic power to make sure he didn't get near.

"Oh come on. Echos, stop that. You've already decided to mess us over enough, stop protecting random people who shouldn't be here!" he groaned, backing off before the wall became something dangerous.

Sona looked around confused. She had no idea what was going on, just that suddenly a lot of multicoloured pokémon who represented chime bells were suddenly all apparently on her side. She knew she wasn't meant to be here, but everything that was going on now? She bit her thumb lightly, doing her best to look shy and clueless.

The Chimecho continued to apparently defend Sona for a while regardless of whatever the attendant said before he gave up, calling for backup from the people down in the Festival.

Sona watched as they changed their tone, going back to gently tingling tunes and casually floating around, a couple trying to lure Sona out from where she'd ended up against the wall. Well they had defended her, they couldn't be that bad.

Slowly she drew herself out, allowing herself to have a little bit of fun with them again. It wasn't perfect, and she was still a little on edge from the previous encounter, but it was still fun trying to catch and ring the Chimecho. They made a game out of it, her trying to ring them in a certain order and them trying to hide or mix themselves up. It probably worked a lot better when they weren't all kinds of mixed up colours.

"So you're the one they're protecting." The voice was feeble and weak. Sona turned to see a very elderly lady stood, leaning on a cane made to look like a Chimecho with a very elongated tail.

Sona turned towards her and felt a need to bow in her presence. Quite clearly she was the one who ran the whole thing and knew everything that was going on. Even the Chimecho didn't go into protective mode against this new person, seeming to respect her a whole lot more than the other guy.

"They like you a lot, don't they?" she mused, stepping forwards into the dancing chimes and over towards Sona.

She tried to signal something in response, to show some kind of understanding before she just signalled a cross over her throat, hoping the meaning would be similar enough. The older lady looked at her throat critically for a moment before seeming to give up, not really understanding, nor caring that she didn't.

"These Chimecho were meant to be in the Festival too you know." she started, reaching up to let one land on her hand. "We've always added in a performance near the end. The Chimecho dance and swirl into the sky, each carrying a little light so they can always be seen and heard over the crowds. It's old fashioned yes, but it's traditional. We got them all ready, all painted up in their different colours, but the passion just hasn't been there."

The Chimecho which had taken her hand as a resting post blinked at her, seeming indifferent to her words. She seemed as though it just proved her point.

"You've woken them up." she smiled, looking around at the rest who were still all up in the air, dancing around as though waiting for the game with Sona to continue. "Join us. Tonight. We were thinking we'd need to cancel the display tonight with them all so... off. You've cheered them up, you've given them this lease on life they didn't have before." the old lady smiled pleadingly. Quite clearly it was very important.

Sona looked around at the Chimecho still floating, longing for her to play with them again. Well.. She could see what the whole thing was going to be at least? Find out if there was anything special going to be expected of her? Maybe she could put forwards her playing her flute with them around, that would help calm her nerves performing in front of however many people might be there..

Why was there always people?

The preparation had gone. It hadn't gone well, or badly or anything, it just went. She'd managed to help convince them that she would be able to play her flute rather than them playing some pre recorded thing, and she'd refused to wear the stupid head piece they'd tried to put on her, but the new dress was alright. And she'd be able to be paid as according to any tips they'd get on the day, which she couldn't say no to with her current money situation.

Learning the tune that they were going to play didn't take too long, and it wasn't too long before she started to add her own little things into it which they rejected at first before they saw the Chimecho dance along anyway, still looking happy that they had a new friend to play with.

The festival was closing down, this was meant to be one of the finale spectaculars. She was meant to be amazing and she could feel the pressure, but she refused to let it get to her as long as she had her music.

Night fell quickly and things started to go from rehearsal to real thing. The group all started making their way down with a large number of little clip on LEDs to attach to Chimecho and dresses and stage dressings and who knows what.

Nerves started to hit Sona while she stood in the back of it all. She hated big performance things, why was she doing this? She hated it enough when she started busking and she got a bit of a crowd, why was she doing this??

One of the Chimecho, a green painted one, floated down next to her, its bright pink clip on light shining bright. It wrapped its tassel around her shoulder for a moment, not really knowing how to interact before just nudging against her face with its own. She smiled faintly, tapping it on the nose and causing it to ring in giggles.

The stage was soon set, the lights dropped only to be replaced with the glittering LEDs from the Chimecho. There were a few little 'Ooh's from the crowd, but it wasn't anything too special.

It was time, slowly she brought the flute to her lips and started to play, stepping forwards slowly in time with her tune to let herself be seen.

Her dress was new, one that mimicked a Chimechos patterns in panels down the front and back. There were no sleeves, making Sona shiver slightly in the night air, but she was sure that she'd manage just for this.

The music played, the Chimecho starting to sway more in tune, adding in their own musics to everything and making the whole thing seem rather serene and beautiful.

Slowly Sona started to get a little more into things, going from lightly swaying to her tune to dancing amongst the Chimecho who dropped low enough and close enough to be able to be danced with. She just had to be careful with her footing, so she never tried to do anything too much.

Slowly the Chimecho started to ring out louder amongst each other, the concentration of those watching darting between which was being loudest at the time, everything turning into a beautiful chaos before seemingly at once the pokémon swooped around, swirling around Sona in a colourful cyclone before spreading out once more.

Sona did her best to keep the tune at the same tempo, trying to stop the feel of her heart racing as she saw the pokémon swirl around. They'd not actually practised the full movements of the pokémon since they didn't have a room big enough. This was... Different.

The song came to a crescendo after a moment, the Chimes all floating back behind her to line up. She opened her arms out to curtsy to the audience only for the Chimecho to all wrap their tassels around her arms, for a moment bowing their heads as well to bow to them before one note signalled them all to take off, dragging Sona into the sky.

Her heart skipped a beat, her flute suddenly clenched in her hand with an iron grip as she tried not to show exactly how terrified she was about it all. She was wearing a dress! Everyone would be able to see up her skirt as they flew around and SHE WAS FLYING? Why was she flying? She never signed up for this!

The Chimecho rang out in joy before at least one of them seemed to notice that Sona was more frozen in terror than elation and span to the back, dropping her back down backstage where she dropped to the ground and looked glad to be there. If she'd been warned that might happen, maybe it would have been fun, but as it was...

"Should have mentioned that was a possibility." the older woman chuckled, offering a hand to the girl to help her back to her feet. "Was the reason we stopped putting people on stage with them in the first place." she smiled, helping to brush her down.

Sona slowly managed to return to some kind of normal breathing, nodding her thanks. Her flute got quickly placed away before any damage might be able to come to it. One of the Chimecho, one painted yellow, flew over giggling. It seemed that there was some kind of apology being made, but with a lack of language it was hard to tell.

"Stay with us for tonight. We'll get you sorted back to normal, get you what you're owed and you can be on your way." she smiled, getting ready to pack things up to leave.

Sona ended up staying with the yellow painted Chimecho for a while, the two starting off with a little playing around to help distract Sona from what had just happened before it turned into Sona sitting on a fold up chair, the Chimecho curled up in her lap being absent mindedly stroked, barely making a sound.

She ended up scooping up the yellow one into her arms, carrying the chair with the other as they made their way back 'home'.

It wasn't too long before Sona found out that the closest thing to a bed that the temple had was more of a futon that was remarkably close to just sleeping on the floor, but the Chimecho flooded in after her, refusing to let her wander off to find somewhere that could be more comfortable. The yellow one in particular seemed to be very keen to stay nearby.

The Chimecho all got washed down to rid them of the paints as Sona went to find somewhere she might be able to charge up her tablet. It was almost embarrassing that she'd forgotten before. Everything got settled down pretty quickly, the attendants being allowed to leave for their own homes leaving just Sona and the old lady keeper behind who apparently had a bed time of the second everything was finished that night.

Sona ended up staying up a little longer, sitting down on the lain out mattress and poking at her tablet a little, trying to work out how long it actually took to charge back up before a Chimecho worked out how to open the door and join her. She could tell by a small tinge of paint still left in the fluff of the tail tassel that it had been the same yellow one as before.

It turned out that rather than turning up to play or mess around or anything, it was more just wanting the girls company. She watched as Sona played around with her phone, trying to join in swiping the screen around with her tail. Sona couldn't help but smile. As long as it wasn't human, she'd be glad for the company.

The next morning Sona awoke to a fully charged tablet and a Chimecho curled up asleep on her chest. It took her a moment to realise it with the light weight of the creature but she managed to catch her before her getting up caused the pokémon to tumble away completely.

It wasn't the best wake up call that Chimecho had ever received, but she wasn't entirely complaining. She wrapped her tail around Sonas arm, sitting on her shoulder once the pair were both up.

"Looks like you've found a friend." came a voice of the old woman who seemed to have chosen the moment to poke her head in with a broom to keep up with the daily cleaning of the place.

Sona flushed, glancing away shyly but Chimecho seemed more than happy to cheer in joy in her place.

"Take her with you. She's already attached to you, and after what you did for us last night, I'm sure we can trust you to take good care of her."

Sona blinked in surprise, looking between the woman and the pokémon who sat there cheering and waggling the tiny little bit of tail she had. She looked like she'd want to argue against it, that the temple would want to keep its pokémon, but the joy in the pokémon next to her melted her resolve. Before she'd turned up they'd all been bored out of their minds. An adventure would surely help take the boredom away for at least this one, right?

"Now, come on. Get yourself up. You younguns. It's almost midday and some of us need to clean!" she scalded playfully, tapping her with the broom to get her up that bit faster. Sona smiled, nodding her thanks to the woman sincerely. She even managed to find it in her to turn down the money offered from the tips. While she was poor and probably didn't have enough for a better nights sleep than she'd just had, she couldn't let herself be the one to take not just one of their pokémon but their money too.

Chimecho looked happy as they started to make their way away from the little town and its temple. Sona just wondered what might be the reaction when the rest of her pokémon met up with her.
