Welcome to the Lorelii Islands. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Lorelii used to be a war torn continent with fighting going back so long that no one even remembered the reasoning for it any more. A lone Shiftry is said to have changed everything, literally splitting the continent into the series of islands there are today and bringing peace to the region. Now that itch to fight is coming back, and it's time to start your journey. The League has only recently reached this collection of islands, and so have you. Catch, train, battle and conquer. Or set up a bakery by the sea. Become a Gym's janitor. Map, chart, explore and become the very best at whatever you want to do.

Yorick

It was now day three of the pair's journey together, and though they hadn't actually covered much distance, Sauce was already feeling like they'd made a lot of progress. Sure he'd been attacked by several different pokemon already and had to be taken to a hospital for blood loss, and sure, they'd almost destroyed Barborytown's only power plant, but the experience they'd gained while doing these things could only stand to make them both better agents. More than agents now, they were also trainers. Sauce grinned as they walked, mulling over his new position in his head. First a field agent, and now a trainer with a pokemon of his very own? His life was changing pretty fast, and even though it had some dangerous overtones, he was becoming quite pleased with his new lot in life. Amy was still the most important part of their group, of course, as he was only there to support her, but Yorick Saucedo was feeling a renewed confidence and optimism that only seemed to come from a fortuitous change in ones daily life.

The group had stayed two nights at Barbory while the medical staff at the pokemon center had cared for Riki, Amy's new Electrike pup. This morning, though, was time to move. Sauce had insisted they get an early start to try and make up for lost time, and so they found themselves traversing through the Badlands this morning, already halfway to Marei City; their next stop.

The weather and scenery was beautiful this morning, now that the rain from a couple days prior had gone away. The rainfall had added a mixture of vibrant green into the earth tones of the abrupt and scabrous hills that stretched across the landscape. Mixed among the mossy boulders and shale was hundreds of emerging wildflowers and patches of grass, and even though the hike so far had been arduous, the view and the company had kept Sauce in good spirits. There were times, whilst looking at the view, that he had wondered why someone would call this particular spot of nature “the Badlands” at all. Of course when they would later have to climb around rugged and precarious slopes, Sauce was immediately reminded.

So, the Marei Gym Leader uses 'shell' type pokemon,” Sauce spoke to Amy as they walked down a narrow trail between two larger hills. He gestured air-quotes with his free hand during the word “shell” for emphasis. He continued, skimming through the dossier read-out on his 77 issued tablet. “She seems like a decent leader to start with, but she won't be easy. Looks like Shell-type pokemon actually cover a lot of different pokemon types; Fire, Ice, Grass, Bug, Water of-course.” He paused for a while, giving Amy time to let everything sink in and ask any questions she might think of.

Ersatz was resting atop his head, having taken the form of a Fletchling the group had seen along the path earlier in the day and chirped for attention. Sauce lowered his tablet and reached up to scratch the purple bird with his index finger. He wondered how long the Ditto would be able to keep this form, now that the Fletchling he had copied had flown off. He was sure it wasn't an indefinite sort of thing. He glanced at his watch: 09:18. It was too bad he hadn't checked the time when they'd seen the Fletchling originally, but it had probably been a good half hour.

Now that they were actually going to face an actual Gym Leader, Amy found herself fluttering with nerves. Though she had three pokemon, she was only really confident in the use of one of them. If possible, she would have liked to figure out how to work with Sora and properly utilise her range of attacks.

So the Gym they were facing had a range of possibly typings, but the fact that they advertised themselves as a 'Shell' Gym meant that they did probably have one thing in common: defensive techniques. So, some moves might not be as effective against a pokemon with really high defensive skills.

She had finally let go of her Electrike pup in the last couple of hours only, and he seemed to be doing really great, full of energy and racing up and down beside Quell, who was remaining visible and out of the shadows in order to keep an eye on him, and to stay within his eyeline, too. He hadn't displayed any worry at being away from his litter or his mother yet, but Amy was very glad that her Absol had taken a sort of maternal role so quickly to ensure that his transition was much easier. They could bond over being slightly different looking to the rest of their species. She had named him Riki after the Norse word for 'power', and also after a naughty Electrike from a childrens' book she had read when she was very small, and was relaying this story to Yorick as they strolled, bouncing on the balls of her feet as she did when she got really into whatever she was saying.

"Wait, what was I saying before..?" she asked suddenly, interrupting her own tangent. "Oh. If there are water types, they should be easier to tackle with my new electric type!"

She was in a very good mood, despite the nerves. She had confidence that whatever happened, they could take it on and win! Bring on the Gym, and then seven more, and then Victory Road, and then the Elite Four, and then the Champion. Woo! They were gonna do it.

Sauce frowned out of the side of his mouth. Amy was definitely correct about the type advantages of electric over water, but he wasn't sure the infant Electrike would be ready to handle a gym battle in time. He watched the young pokemon dash along the fields with Quell. Riki certainly seemed to be doing much better than before. He was full of energy today at least, and Quell, from what he could tell, didn't seem to mind him. But did he even know any sort of electric attacks? He had only recently been discharged from the pokemon center for an busted electrical sac, that seemed to put a damper on the whole using electric moves to beat water pokemon plan.

Are you sure Riki is ready for a battle quite so early?” Sauce asked. He didn't want to overstep his bounds, but he really didn't think such a young pokemon would be a good choice in a battle with a Gym Leader. Maybe they needed to catch a few other pokemon first, or wait a while and train before actually challenging Marei? Sauce ran his hand over his hair as he thought. He'd need to talk to Amy more about this Gym Leader thing, but it was such a nice day, he figured it couldn't hurt to postpone such serious discussion until they arrived at the city.

Speaking of Marei City, just how far away were they? He knew they must be getting closer by now. Anytime soon they should be able to see Pearl Crater in the distance.. Sauce tapped his tablet a couple times and brought up his map imagery.

The man stopped walking and furrowed his brow before taking a look around. He had, unfortunately, lost signal, but the Tablet showed his last recorded destination facing North West and way off their intended course. This was to be expected with his luck, he thought. He groaned audibly and turned to face Amy.

I think we're lost,” he said flatly, offering her his tablet to take a look at the map. “Somehow we got turned Northward who knows how long ago, when we needed to be going west the whole time. We're heading towards the desert.

He laughed and grinned sheepishly to her, trying to keep the mood lighthearted. It was a sort of little setback, really. Sauce just hoped his traveling companion wouldn't be too upset with him. It was his job after all.

Yorick tried to look around for landmarks, but unfortunately the cascading hills made it difficult to view the horizon.

I'm going to go try and get a better look around,” he explained as he began climbing up the slop beside them, hunching over and using his arms as support.

Upon reaching the top of the ridge, Yorick scanned the area. He could see several larger mountains in the distance, but he couldn't tell if it was the mountains to the West, near Marei City, or the mountains to the North, near Barbory. The winding roads of the Badlands had got the group all turned around. Saucedo let out a heavy sigh and brushed his hair out of frustration.

We're absolutely lost.

Huh...as always (or so far anyway), he was right about everything. Amy got a flash through her mind of an alternate universe where he hadn't been sent to help her, and she was flailing around in the middle of the ocean, for some reason. Life had been so much easier when she had been told what to do, step by step. She was good at that.

Actually, that was why she had been chosen for this particular mission...

"Yeah, you're right, he is still very little," she conceded, looking down at the mini Electrike darting left and right between Quell's legs as she danced over him, careful not to trip. "I'm not sure if I can win with just Quell, though, and I still don't really know how to use Sora. You could help me with that, though?"

She felt embarrassed asking, even though that was literally the reason he was with her, to help her train her pokemon the quickest and most effective way. "I sort of understand how to work with Quell now, but I wouldn't know the first thing about getting a Swablu to win..." she finished.

He looked worried. She sidled up beside him to peer at what was making him look agitated. Oh...they had gotten turned around on their way to the Gym. Hmm, maybe this wasn't such a bad thing after all, though? She felt the Butterfrees in her stomach at the prospect of facing her first Gym Leader begin to settle down. If they were lost, that meant more time to get to know her little team, and more of a chance to not totally make a fool of herself!

"Oh no," Amy said, trying to sound as convincing as possible, "what a huge bummer! And I was so looking forward to this important battle. Hmm. How about this way?"

She picked a totally random direction with great confidence and began to stride forward. Onward to lostdom. Delay the loss by one more day. Not the best idea she had ever had, but it was too late to tell her legs to stop...

Yorick glanced down after surveying the area to see Amy already hiking along another road. Sighing with a smile, he ran down the hill, skidding on his heels with the loose earth sliding beside him. He reached the base and jogged to catch up with his partner. Ersatz flitted alongside him, joyfully flying through the air doing loops and spins. He might as well follow Amy's lead, he thought. They may have a mission to do, but they didn't have a real schedule to abide by. He trotted alongside Amy, slowing down to a walk as he reached her.

This way is as good as any, I guess,” Yorick said with a wink that was probably imperceptible through his tinted lenses. “I'll keep checking for a signal as we go. Figures the 77 can make a mask that let's you breath underwater but they can't make a Tablet that will work in the mountains,” he joked with a hint of sardonicism.

He walked along with Amy, looking around occasionally, trying to determine if they were heading Northward or Westward, but his tablet just wouldn't seem to get signal and he didn't know nearly enough about the area to distinguish the edges of the two visible mountain ranges. The trail they were on looked well worn, however, and that was keeping Sauce hopeful. Ersatz was still in Fletchling form and was gliding in the wind far above them, undoubtedly enjoying his ability to fly.

Sauce soon began to get a peculiar feeling. As he chatted with Amy about the various amenities of Marei City, he couldn't shake the sensation that they were being watched. He stopped and looked around the sloping cliffs once more, and in the corner of his eye, he caught a glint of light from a nearby rock formation.

Amy,” He hissed, before realizing that whatever or whoever was there was almost certainly not within earshot. “I think there's someone watching us from over by those rocks.” Sauce nodded as subtly as he could towards the formation he had been speaking about and then turned his back towards the possible spectator and stepping in close to Amy so that their conversation couldn't be easily observed. Sauce tried to ignore the potential invasion of personal space as best he could, and remain professional. Ersatz, the purple bird, glided down in a circular motion before dropping down onto Sauce's shoulder, curious as to what was going on. “I don't know why someone would be out here staring at us, but you know as well as I do how dangerous it could be.” The 77 was a very surreptitious organization, and though both Amy and Sauce were spies themselves, the threat of being spied on by another rival faction-- or even at this moment, their own-- was ever-present. “I think we've got to go investigate.” He glanced quickly over his shoulder. “Carefully.

Amy laughed heartily at his light humour, intended to make them both feel better about whatever situation they were in, no doubt; and it was working. Good humour always made her feel better about anything, and normally that meant her, alone, making stupid jokes to herself. She was very glad for the (human) company.

At that thought, her gaze trailed back to her pokemon. Riki the Electrike was sniffing at a blue-purple berry, swollen and ripe with juices. He reached out to snap it up off of the branch, when-

"Danger."

The cool metallic voice of Quell's busted translation software rang out through the wilderness. Riki paused and tilted his head at the Absol, and Amy smiled as she recognised the berry as a Ganlon. Bitter to taste, but not dangerous. Quell was totally overreacting. She was truly a mother. She turned to share this small, perhaps uninteresting, little story with Yorick but was distracted as he peered off into the distance.

Someone watching them? Was that just...a feeling he was getting, or could he see somebody? Amy resisted the urge to step forward conspiratorially as Sauce did, closing the gap even further; instead, she nodded carefully as he spoke. He smelled quite nice.

She nodded happily when he told her that they should investigate. Definitely! If it was somebody evil, they'd have to take them out. Maybe take them back to one of the 77's HQs, maybe question them, maybe rough 'em up a little. Whatever it was, it'd put off her first Gym battle...

As they stepped closer to the formation of rocks, she kept her stride confident and sure-footed. In her periphery she caught the outline of a person duck quickly behind a boulder to ensure that he wasn't seen, but far too late for her trained Spy's EyesTM!

Suddenly, the world gave way under her confident feet - it doesn't matter how sure your feet are when there's no earth underneath them, after all - and she went tumbling down ten feet into a dark, wet, freshly dug hole. Whether or not Sauce had managed to escape the fall she wasn't sure yet; there was dirt in her eyes.

"Aha!" somebody cried, leaping from behind the rocks and staring into the hole at them. "At last I've caught you...Team Argent scum!!" Amy squinted up at him, rubbing her eyes and wondering if her pokemon had managed to escape the fall, too.

"Y'wot?" she managed to say.

Sauce had felt the earth underneath him give way and for the first few seconds all he could think of was not again! Saucedo was tired of getting hurt seemingly every day since he'd joined on with this mission. He fell, almost face first in a pit of cool freshly dug dirt, lying prone while Amy had landed squarely on his back. His head whirled around for a moment as he staved off temporary vertigo. He heard someone above speaking, but the sound had been muffled by a combination of debris and body parts. Sauce spat the dirt from out of his mouth and groaned, unable to find the proper expression for telling Amy to get off of his back as quick as humanly possible. Sauce heard a man speak from above and turned his body as best he could to get a glimpse.

You'll stay put in there if you know what's good for you!” said the mystery man, standing on the edge of the pit. “I'm a pokemon Ranger, and I'm here to stop fools like you Argent grunts from disturbing our precious ecosystem here.” He announced, hands on his hips, clearly proud of himself. The man wore a red boonie hat and vest, which summoned to Yorick's mind the image of a fisherman.

Just who do you think we are?” Sauce spat irately, his brain finally piecing together the sudden events of the past few seconds. Ersatz was circling overhead, having escaped the pitfall trap, and it appeared that the so called “Ranger” had decided to ignore him. Sauce clenched his fist as he tried to keep his cool.

I don't think, I know,” The man at the top of the pit declared. You got the first half of that sentence right, Sauce chided inwardly. “You're the Team Argent Poachers that have been marauding around this area lately.

Sauce groaned again at the accusation. “Amy, have you been doing any marauding behind my back?” he joked, wishing he could get himself out of the pit. “You have no idea how completely wrong you are right now. You're barking up such a wrong tree you're not even in the right forest,” Sauce berated the man enthusiastically. Secretly, past his anger, irritation, and aching back, he had been pleased with his own creativity. Now he just wondered how long they'd be stuck in this hole.

When she got her full senses back to her, she squeaked in realisation as the ground below her shifted...again! What? Was there a second hole dug at the bottom of this hole? When would it end?? But then when the shuffling began to make noise, she quickly rolled off of it and grinned sheepishly. She had been lying on her partner. Woops!

She giggled at Sauce's handling of the other man, who she could only just about make out due to the sun behind him. He had a very serious look on his puffy face, and he was jabbing a finger in their direction. Amy shrugged, protecting her eyes from the light with the flat of her hand. "Some gallivanting, sure, but no marauding."

"I am too in the right forest!" the man screeched back, leaning so far in to the mouth of the hole that he nearly tumbled inside, and quickly scrambled backwards as bits of wet debris rained down on Amy, going inside her nose. "There's a load of really super rare pokemon around here and it's the job of people like ME-" At this point he straightened himself up so tall that they could barely see him anymore. "-Jimmy the Hole. Nicknamed because I-"

"Because you won't shut your mouth?" Amy yelled back excitedly, bouncing from foot to foot. She had seen Sauce make fun of him and it had looked really fun!

"No!" he yelled back, growing angrier and angrier by the second. Hmm, maybe riling him up wasn't the best idea? Oh well! "Anyway, you guys are going to tell me where you have those poor little Eevees hidden away RIGHT NOW or I swear...I'll leave you in there forever!" He turned away a little. "And then I'll surely be allowed to be a Ranger..." Then turned back. "I...I mean, be PROMOTED to TOP RANGER OF THE ISLANDS!"

Amy brushed flecks of dirt and his spit from her face and grimaced, before turning to Yorick. "We are the captives of an idiot," she whispered. "I can't recall anything from our training about idiots besting us."

Yorick couldn't decide whether to be amused or angry at the situation. “It was in the manual,” He replied sarcastically. “Right after the chapter on marauding.” He emphasized the last bit, raising his voice deliberately and giving a sideways glance to the man above. He rose to his feet, dusted himself off as best he could and flexed his torso. Sauce felt a satisfying pop in his back and sighed. Amy was heavier than she looked. He opened his mouth to comment on his back before thinking better of it.

Look, buddy,” Sauce yelled back up towards the sky. He adjusted his sunglasses which had become skewed in the fall, and felt relieved they hadn't broken again. “We don't know ANYTHING about any stolen Eevee. We're just some pokemon trainers passing through on out way to get her a badge.” Sauced nodded to Amy at his side before realizing how odd the last little bit of his sentence sounded. On their way to get her a badge? A bit fishy for a pair of trainer's traveling together to only be concerned with one of them getting a badge. He made a mental note to think of a better cover story for himself just as soon as they were out of this hole and away from this idiot.

You are?” Sauce could see the shoulders of Jimmy's silhouette slump. “That makes the second group today,” He mumbled to himself. “Well-- Well how do I know you're telling the truth, HUH?” He spat back downward, seemingly re-energized in his conviction. “Just how do I know you're pokemon trainer's and not Team Argent thugs?

Saucedo frowned at this. There really wasn't any solid evidence. It wasn't as if they had any badges yet they could show him or-- Wait! “How about this Pokedex, genius?” Sauce produced the dark blue pokedex from his pocket and presented it with an outstretched hand. If this didn't convince him, he swore he would climb out of the pit himself and kick this guy square in the teeth.

W-Well...” Jimmy's tone softened considerably with his loss of confidence. “What about her?” his thrust his finger accusingly at Amy. Saucedo hung his head and slumped his shoulders exaggeratingly. What would get through to this guy?

She's-- She's with me!” He said, rather unconvincingly. He was fairly certain Amy had a pokedex or some sort of pokegear as well. In fact he was sure she did, she had used it the first day that they met. “Look, Jimmy,” Sauce began as he waited for his partner to produce some sort of evidence. “If you don't let us out of this muddy pit I swear I'll jump out and throw you in here!” Yorick most definitely was not helping the situation at this point, and he knew it, but what more did they have to do to get out?

Amy looked perplexed for a moment. We had a manual?

"Yeah!" She yelled, putting her hands on her hips as Sauce brandished the gear that proved they were trainers. "Getting me a badge!" she parroted. Hmm...if she already had a badge, that would be seriously sufficient proof. Why was she so nervous about her first battle? Oh sure, as soon as she was trapped in a ditch and unable to challenge the Gym Leader it was all she could think about.

She noticed his nervous expression when he told the man what they were doing, and looked up at the ranger again. He still looked incredibly suspicious.

"Yeah, look, we're on a trainer journey. I'm getting the badges, and...he's not because...he's a coordinator! He does contests! Yeah!!" She was so proud of herself for thinking of it on her feet. "C'mon Billy, you gotta let us out, we're totally lost. Isn't helping people what being a ranger is all about?"

He opened his mouth to correct her on his name but then closed it when she made her next point. "You are right...that is what the ranger code says. Something something helping others. Something something...something...doing the right thing. Yeah. Alright, fine." He took a deep breath and Amy smiled over at Sauce.

"But first!" he yelled suddenly, making her jump again, "he has to prove that he's a Coordinator. You guys don't even have any badges, and...and it takes a lot to pull the wool over Jimmy the Hole's eyes!"

Amy shrugged surreptitiously at Sauce and whispered to him. "The guy looks pretty easily impressed...why not go for it?"

A coordinator? Well that was a good story. At least, it would be if they had rehearsed it. Sauce looked at Amy, then at Jimmy, then back at Amy and widened his eyes a bit in exasperation. He brushed his hand through his hair and took a deep breath to compose himself.

That's right!” Saucedo shouted, his voice full of bravado. He would have to sell this pretty well to make it work. “You're looking at-- at Awesome-Sauce and Ersatz, the up-an-coming coordinating duo!” He waved his right hand across his body dramatically and left it hovering in the air at his side for a moment. Bringing the thumb and index finger of his left hand into his mouth, he whistled loudly before shouting, “Ersatz! Ersatz, come down here and land on my arm. Show this doubting fool what you can do!

Arceus, he thought. He was the one who felt like a fool right now. Ersatz fluttered down and perched on his harm as he'd intended. Hopefully, Ersatz had been listening as Amy had made up the story. Sauce prayed that the Ditto would be able to follow through with the charade as well, but they'd never practiced anything like this, and his knowledge of coordinators and contests were extremely limited. Ersatz sat atop his red sleeve, staring at his trainer questioningly. This wasn't part of the job description, he bemoaned to himself as he cleared his voice once more.

All right my--” He sputtered for a moment as he searched for his words. “Purple-plumed pal. Show us your spectacular Agility! And make it showy” Sauce hissed his last sentence to his pokemon before it took off, willing it to understand the theatrics that needed to be added in to the original move. As he issued the order, he thought of another problem this act was going to present. He'd only barely gotten to observe the original Fletchling before it had flown off, he had to be sure to give Ersatz moves that he would know in this form. Saucedo held his breath as the fake bird took flight. He really hoped the pokemon understood what its owner wanted him to do.

Ersatz flew back out of the pit and into the sky. Agility? Was there an enemy nearby? Would he have to battle again? What did Sauce mean showy? The purple pokemon struggled to understand as he ascended. The ditto flapped its wings quickly and flew around in a circle, increasing it's speed as it began to focus on the move. It was all instinct. Ditto knew Agility because the original Fletchling knew Agility. Ersatz flew in tighter and tighter circles as his speed increased. This was Showy, right? This was fun. Ersatz took it upon himself to fly around the pit, performing a close flyover of the stranger who stood at the edge. The Ditto then decided to try some other flying maneuvers. After all, it wasn't everyday he got to be able to fly. Ersatz performed trick after trick, flying and flipping and doing loop de loops.

Yorick grinned earnestly as he watched Ersatz perform his aerial ticks. This was the sort of thing coordinators did, right? Maybe he should be a coordinator. The man gestured emphatically along with his pokemon, determined to sell the ruse.

Jimmy the Hole watched the purple bird, mouth agape. His gaze constantly transitioning from Ersatz to his captives down in the hole. “Well, I guess maybe you really are a coordi--

Not so fast, my simple-minded friend!” Sauce interrupted, now fully engrossed in his role and his disguise. “The show's not over yet! Watch and be amazed!” He projected his voice to the man above with vibrato. “Ersatz, astound us with your Quick Attack!

The mimic flew up high in the air again. Quick Attack? Who did Sauce want him to attack? Was the other man an enemy now? He knew he was in a battle.

Ersatz zipped downwards at his foe, moving so fast that to the spectators he must have become a purple blur. The Ditto flew over the man's head, deftly pulled a 180 degree turn and sped right back at him, becoming nearly invisible as he reached his top speed. Ersatz struck the man in the back like a bullet and then slowed down to flutter about happily. Jimmy, caught completely unawares, flailed his arms wildly to maintain his balance before falling-- and to Yorick it felt like slow-motion-- backwards down into the hole he had been so proud of.

Sauce, now completely snapped back out of character, slapped his hand against the top of his head as he watched the man fall. This did not bode well. He looked to Amy, his face torn between sincere guilt and guilty amusement. “Oops?” He remarked sheepishly, his eyebrows raised and fingers stretching out through his hair nervously.

Amy found herself instantly absorbed, gasping and clapping along while Ersatz dove and flapped up and down with the blue sky as his backdrop and the world as his stage! "Wow, you could make a career out of this!" she practically sang, clapping Awesome-Sauce on his shoulder in praise. "I MEAN, it's lucky that you have!" She grinned. Yeah! Great save.

She opened and closed her mouth; it was probably okay if he were to stop, but no...he was having a really good time. She watched, eyes still sparkling in awe. What a great newfound talent! This would be a sure way to get them more money along the road. Ooh! She could be his manager! She would get him auditions and take tickets to his shows and advertise him far and wide and they would-

Wait, they'd have to get out of this damn ditch first. "Okay, you can let us out now!" Amy cried. Jimmy began to nod, but just then, almost too quick for her to notice what was going on, there was a crack and he came tumbling down beside them in the hole.

"Oh noooo," she breathed, and eyed Sauce nervously, as though she had been the one to get them into this mess. "I guess it's time for Plan B, right?" She paused, looking at the two other men. Jimmy remained sitting, rubbing the back of his head and glaring up at the two of them.

"What the hell was your Plan B if that was Plan A?" he grumped.

"Aha!" Amy said, gesturing dramatically to buy herself more time. "Uhhh...Soraaaa? Can you lift us out?"

A lively beating of wings followed as the Swablu was released from her pokeball. It was Sora's time to shine! Diligently she grabbed onto Amy's sleeve and beat her wings harder, the little cotton buds offering literally no wind resistance and not even moving her arm an inch. "How the hell do you even fly?" Amy cried. "Alright, who else has a Plan B?"

"Shoulda known you two weren't Argent - you're too damn STUPID!" Jimmy yelled. Amy flinched.

"Stop spitting on me!"

Sauce was going to need to think of something smart soon or these two would soon regress entirely and it would start to get ugly, Sora noted, pecking helpfully at the young man's sunglasses to make sure he was thinking hard.

Put his hand on his chin thoughtfully. He'd seen people in movies do this when they were thinking hard, so it was bound to help, right? This was a disaster, and now he only had himself to blame. Well, maybe not only himself. He looked over at Jimmy the Hole, still wearing his red fisherman's vest. He and Amy had begun a shouting match which was bound to give him a headache soon, and on top of that, Sora had taken to pecking his glasses rhythmically as he stood there. Removed his hand from his chin and began rubbing his temples soothingly, shutting his eyes and attempting to shut out the outside world.

Amy had a grappling hook, but it probably couldn't find purchase on the loose dirt around the edge. Jimmy no doubt owned a shovel, but Sauce hadn't seen it on him so either it was really small or he'd left it over by the rocks he had hidden behind previously. They had pokemon with them, but Sauce couldn't think of a way they could all help. If only they had something big, like an Onix or something, they could practically use it as a staircase and climb right out.

All right!” He exclaimed, shooting his hand up in a rapid motion that would probably startle Sora. “I've got an idea, but it's going to require team work.” Sauce eyed both Jimmy and Amy warily. “We're going to climb on each others shoulders and form a human ladder.” He paused as he watched the reactions of both parties. First, he turned to Jimmy. “You're the largest,” The man opened his mouth to give what Yorick could only assume was an offended retort, but Yorick cut him off before he could speak. “So you're going to be on the bottom, and I'll climb on top of your shoulders. From there,” He turned his head to his companion., clearly eager to get this ordeal over with and never see Jimmy the Hole ever again. “Amy, you'll climb up atop both of us and get out of the pit. You can use your grappling hook from there and we'll both climb up. Make sure to tie it tightly around those rocks up there.” He gestured upwards in the direction Jimmy had hid originally.

It truly wasn't a complex, or even a very clever plan, but simple plans were usually better than complicated ones anyway. Especially when dealing with stupid people who liked to dig holes and play pretend. Sauce sighed loudly, ready to get this ordeal over with.

Jimmy grumbled over to the edge of the hold and squatted down in position for Sauce to climb atop him. “Well are you ready or not?” he spat irately, clearly sour about the entire situation in the first place.

Sauce moved forward and quickly climbed on to the more robust man's shoulders. “You know it's your fault any of us are in here to begin with,” Sauce muttered under his breath as he awkwardly positioned his body atop Jimmy's. Both men then held out their arms to the best of their ability to assist Amy's ascent to the top. The human tower wavered precariously as Jimmy struggled to maintain his balance with Yorick's weight atop him.

"See, that's why he's the Coordinator and I'm just a trainer," Amy said with pride, as if that meant literally anything. One day, maybe even one day soon, she might be able to come up with a plan that clever on her own! But that day was not today.

She watched as Jimmy scrambled to the edge of the hole and got into his firmest ladder-base position, and Sauce climbed on top. Amy allowed them to get as firm a grip on each other as possible before biting back laughter at how ridiculous they looked and scrabbling to become the top of the human pyramid, accidentally (or maybe subconsciously not) stepping hard on Jimmy's nose on the way up before precariously ending up on top of Sauce's head, using his arms to ensure that she didn't wobble.

But...her shoe had left some kind of debris under Jimmy's sensitive nostrils and just as she clamped her hands down firmly on the edge of the expertly-dug hole, Jimmy sneezed with the energy and vigour of a thousand suns.

First he wavered, causing Sauce to waver, and then finally Amy began to wobble back and forth like the top of a bobblehead doll in a hurricane, but just as she felt herself begin to succumb to the powers of gravity, she leapt, using Yorick's head as purchase, and caught tightly onto the edge of the hole, using all of her might to yank herself up with her arms, feet scrabbling uselessly at the edge.

At the top she caught her breath, quickly took stock of her surroundings - oh it was so good to be out in the open air again! - and lashed her grappling hook around the rocks, gave it an almighty tug to test it, and then carefully ensured that she lowered the rope down to Sauce alone, and not the untrustworthy Jimmy.

"Whenever you're ready!" she cried, looking around again. She was probably just being jittery after having been trapped, but she was almost a hundred percent certain that there was rapid movement somewhere behind those trees...

Sauce waiting while the burlier man heaved himself over the edge of the pit, and then followed suit, Ersatz flitting about through the air as he climbed. With a groan, he rolled himself over the edge and onto firm ground. Sauce straightened his body up and shook the dirt off of his clothes. Adventuring sure got you dirty, he observed, noticing the stubborn mud on his knees.

So are you satisfied now? We can leave without falling into any more holes?” He asked Jimmy, his voice clearly indicating as little actual interaction with the man as he could manage.

well, yeah. FINE,” Jimmy huffed. “I guess you guys aren't Team Argent. Just don't you guys go breaking any laws or anything.” He put his hand on the brim of his boonie cap to adjust it. “I'll be watching,” he said, his voice dropping down to just above a whisper.

Sauce rolled his eyes-- an action that wasn't actually visible through his sunglasses-- and turned away to Amy. “Are you ready to get the hell out of here?” at this point, he didn't particularly care that they were lost anymore. Away was away. He was sure that they'd pick up a signal at some point and get back on track, and though the thought had occurred to him to ask Jimmy for directions, he really didn't trust that the man even knew where he was.

Something drew his attention to the small grove of trees nearby. There was movement, and it had caused the vegetation to rustle. The trees hardly qualified as such, from a relative standpoint. They were barely bigger than Sauce, and fairly spindly, but nonetheless they were the tallest kind of vegetation around, and made for decent concealment. They couldn't be being watched again, could they? Sauce moved closer to investigate as Ersatz perched on his shoulder. He stuck his hand out to Amy, motioning quietly for her to stay put. There was no use in the both of them falling into one trap again.

Jimmy the Hole, who had turned away, grabbed his shovel and gotten back to work filling the hole for which he had seemed oh-so-proud-of, stopped what he was doing to stare, perplexed, at the man who was now sneaking up on a group of inanimate trees. Some people were such weirdos, he thought, as he got back to work repairing his magnificent hole in the ground.

((Sorryyy I've been sick))

Amy giggled at the man warning them away from wrongdoings and grumpily filling in his hole.

"Hey, good luck joining the Rangers," she said over her shoulder as they started to walk away. "I mean...being promoted to top Ranger." She stage winked, nothing but kindness meant by it, but he glowered back and she turned back to Sauce with a shrug.

"Let's get the hell out of here!" Amy repeated, punching the air, before strolling off in a random direction once again, with all the confidence of a secret agent who had a working map and had never fallen into a trap.

She paused, then, as she realised that Sauce was not following her this time and turned back to him with a scrunched eyebrow. He was staring through the trees. Had he seen the slight movement as well? She was certain that she had seen something but had, perhaps wrongly, dismissed it as a wild pokemon or somebody out for a walk.

After all, she figured; whoever it was couldn't have wanted to hurt them, or they would have attacked when they were trapped down a ten foot hole! Still, though, she fell back and squinted with Sauce through the shrubbery.

Beside them, Riki began to creep forward to sniff at a new, unfamiliar smell that interested him, and Quell stepped in front of him, causing the Electrike to bonk his nose on her white leg and fall back onto his rump.

But the Absol could smell the same thing. She began to emit a low growling noise and the air around them became sharper, crisper and colder as she readied an attack - just in case.

"Danger."

Suddenly, streaking out of the trees came two enormous pokemon, a little less than double the size Amy would have expected for a Flareon and a Vaporeon to be. They growled at the group, wild-eyed, and began to suss out the situation. They looked so panicked that Amy was sure they were about to attack any second now.

"Sshh, sshh, it's okay, we're not going to hurt you," Amy said, like she had read in books, instantly forgetting all of her training about what to do when faced with dangerous wild pokemon. They were so frightened! What could have happened to them?

The two pokemon emerged from the shrubbery with a sudden quickness that caused Yorick to step back with a start. He thrust his hand across in a vain effort to shield Amy from any potential attacks that might come their way, but was too far and probably too distracted to pay any mind. Luckily the wild pokemon had decided not to attack just yet, because Amy had decided to go right up to them.

Yorick shot a sideways glance to Quell, wondering if the Absol would jump between them.

Amy..” Sauce warned cautiously, as the girl started to speak at the pokemon. He could tell by their size that they were both very mature and experienced. Hopefully they weren't too angry, because Sauce was sure they would be dangerous if they felt provoked. “I don't know,” Sauce answered Amy before remembering something the wannabe ranger had mentioned earlier. “That Jimmy guy had said something about Poacher's right? And kidnapped Eevee?” He connected the dots in his head as he explained out loud. He was sure that these pokemon must have been kin to the abducted pokemon. Judging from their size and age, he could assume that the Flareon and Vaporeon must have been the alphas of their pack. “These must be their parents, or at least the leaders of their pack.”

Seeing how the pokemon had been relatively peaceful with Amy, sauce took the chance to approach as well, walking with slow deliberate movements. “Do you guy's need help? Do you know where the poachers went?”

The Vaporeon stared at Sauce as he approached, black eyes narrowed. Even sauce could see that the Water-Type was uncomfortable. It flicked its finned tail towards him, bared it's teeth threateningly, and bounded away without looking back. Sauce was fairly determined that these pokemon were on the trail of the people who had taken their Eevee friends.

The Flareon seemed less reluctant to leave, she approached Amy cautiously, apparently sensing the girls benign intentions. Yorick sighed quietly, jealous of the Girls gentle and amiable way with pokemon. He reached his hand out and called for his own pokemon to console him a bit, but quickly noticed Ersatz had left him and gone over near Amy as well, clearly intent on being a part of the conversation. Yorick grumbled to himself, dejected, but Ersatz paid him no mind.

The ditto had decided, after flying over to Amy and the Flareon, to transform again, shifting from his bird form to a purple version of the Flareon that had been standing before them. The original Flareon looked shocked and startled, backing away as soon as she caught site of the purple mirror-image of herself. She glanced in the direction her partner had run, and took off after him, stopping momentarily atop a hill to look back at the humans before running off again.

Sauced looked to Amy, expecting to see her pleading to follow. Sauce certainly was ready to move. Sure, the pokemon didn't seem to care too much for him, but stopping poachers from abducting a whole pack of Eevee seemed almost obligatory. He took a few hurried steps in the same direction, looking over to check on Ersatz and the rest.

Slowly but surely the Flareon began to approach her outstretched fingers before flinching away and darting off. Amy straightened to her feet and dusted off her clothes before blinking up at Yorick.

It didn't need to be said, she didn't think, that they were going to go after them to see what was going on. If he was right and something was really going on, it was still their duty to check it out, as upstanding citizens! Also keepers of the peace.

Riki crept over to sniff at this new purple dog that was standing with them, wagging his stumpy blue tail and barking. He stuck his butt in the air to invite Ersatz to play.

Amy followed behind her partner, hands clasped behind her back, looking around at the trees and bushes. "These lands aren't so bad after all, you know," she said sagely to him with a nod to herself. It was a nice day, and the scenery was really quite pretty. Starly chirped in the trees around them, and Amy whistled for Sora.

The Swablu circled and landed on her outstretched arm, and Quell nudged Riki in the rump to get him to keep moving. "Isn't it lovely to be out with pokemon on a day like this?" Amy asked, spirits high and happiness stretching her face into a wide grin. "And to think - you wanted to be stuck in a Gym all day!"

Ersatz rolled sideways around the pup, clearly ecstatic to have a playmate. He pawed at the air expectantly before they were interrupted by the movement of the party. Yorick glanced back and smiled, happy to see his pokemon was still having a good time. Ersatz came up alongside his trainer as they departed, bouncing happily up and down as he moved.

I was just thinking that earlier,” Sauce commented. The Badlands may be a difficult hike, but on a good day, they were certainly beautiful. “That was before we fell into a ten-foot hole, though.” He lamented sarcastically. The man let his hands hang in his pockets casually as he walked at Amy's side. “It could have been worse, at least I didn't lose any blood today or need any stitches,” He joked, raising his bandaged arm as an example. The track of the two Pokemon they had decided to follow was pretty clear, for now, and hadn't taken much effort to maintain, which was gave the two ample time to chat.

I didn't really want to be in a Gym all day, you know,” Yorick commented lightheartedly. “Honestly, it would have been you in the gym, I might snuck out and gone shopping or had a nice lunch,” he teased, smirking out the side of his mouth as he looked at Amy. It really was a nice day.

Ersatz ran up ahead intermittently, sniffing the air and trying to maintain the scents of the Flareon he had been copying. The ditto seemed to have a hard time focusing, Sauce noted. Ersatz was constantly switching between running ahead and following the trail and getting distracted by Riki, nipping playfully at the smaller pokemon as he ran along with the group. Thankfully the path that Vaporeon and Flareon were taking was pretty gentle, otherwise the little Electrike might have had too difficult a time keeping up, and Amy would have had to return him to his ball or carry him.

Luckily for them, it had rained a little the previous night and had been incredibly mild that morning, so the grass ahead of them had been easily flattened by the haphazard movements of the Flareon and the Vaporeon. Even if Quell hadn't been nose-to-ground following their paths in a zigzag motion, Amy was sure that the two of them could have easily tracked their quarry that day.

Riki dashed excitedly after Ersatz, and then dashed back after him too when he came back, until he was panting and his tongue was lolling.

When Sauce made the comment about not losing any blood yet that day, Amy ducked dramatically, and then came up for air again. "Sorry," she said, "I thought that the universe might be all ironic or whatever and you'd be hit by a grand piano."

She giggled to herself as he continued to speak. "Lunch," she repeated his last word. "Luuunch. Oh goddddd." Out of nowhere she dropped to her knees. "I'm soooo hungry!" She leaned her head forward. "Ooh, a berry." She picked up a little thing from the ground with a smile and was about to pop it into her mouth but Quell, as if from nowhere, appeared and knocked it out of her hand. "Awwwww."

She looked around quickly. "Shall...shall we stop for a moment? I think my pokemon could do with some food and water too."
