Welcome to the Lorelii Islands. We hope you enjoy your visit.

Lorelii used to be a war torn continent with fighting going back so long that no one even remembered the reasoning for it any more. A lone Shiftry is said to have changed everything, literally splitting the continent into the series of islands there are today and bringing peace to the region. Now that itch to fight is coming back, and it's time to start your journey. The League has only recently reached this collection of islands, and so have you. Catch, train, battle and conquer. Or set up a bakery by the sea. Become a Gym's janitor. Map, chart, explore and become the very best at whatever you want to do.

Yorick

It was now day three of the pair's journey together, and though they hadn't actually covered much distance, Sauce was already feeling like they'd made a lot of progress. Sure he'd been attacked by several different pokemon already and had to be taken to a hospital for blood loss, and sure, they'd almost destroyed Barborytown's only power plant, but the experience they'd gained while doing these things could only stand to make them both better agents. More than agents now, they were also trainers. Sauce grinned as they walked, mulling over his new position in his head. First a field agent, and now a trainer with a pokemon of his very own? His life was changing pretty fast, and even though it had some dangerous overtones, he was becoming quite pleased with his new lot in life. Amy was still the most important part of their group, of course, as he was only there to support her, but Yorick Saucedo was feeling a renewed confidence and optimism that only seemed to come from a fortuitous change in ones daily life.

The group had stayed two nights at Barbory while the medical staff at the pokemon center had cared for Riki, Amy's new Electrike pup. This morning, though, was time to move. Sauce had insisted they get an early start to try and make up for lost time, and so they found themselves traversing through the Badlands this morning, already halfway to Marei City; their next stop.

The weather and scenery was beautiful this morning, now that the rain from a couple days prior had gone away. The rainfall had added a mixture of vibrant green into the earth tones of the abrupt and scabrous hills that stretched across the landscape. Mixed among the mossy boulders and shale was hundreds of emerging wildflowers and patches of grass, and even though the hike so far had been arduous, the view and the company had kept Sauce in good spirits. There were times, whilst looking at the view, that he had wondered why someone would call this particular spot of nature “the Badlands” at all. Of course when they would later have to climb around rugged and precarious slopes, Sauce was immediately reminded.

So, the Marei Gym Leader uses 'shell' type pokemon,” Sauce spoke to Amy as they walked down a narrow trail between two larger hills. He gestured air-quotes with his free hand during the word “shell” for emphasis. He continued, skimming through the dossier read-out on his 77 issued tablet. “She seems like a decent leader to start with, but she won't be easy. Looks like Shell-type pokemon actually cover a lot of different pokemon types; Fire, Ice, Grass, Bug, Water of-course.” He paused for a while, giving Amy time to let everything sink in and ask any questions she might think of.

Ersatz was resting atop his head, having taken the form of a Fletchling the group had seen along the path earlier in the day and chirped for attention. Sauce lowered his tablet and reached up to scratch the purple bird with his index finger. He wondered how long the Ditto would be able to keep this form, now that the Fletchling he had copied had flown off. He was sure it wasn't an indefinite sort of thing. He glanced at his watch: 09:18. It was too bad he hadn't checked the time when they'd seen the Fletchling originally, but it had probably been a good half hour.

Yorick paused for a moment, and looked hesitantly at the trail they were following. Was now really the time to stop for a break? He checked his watch; 1141. It was pretty close to lunch time and he'd pushed Amy out the door before either of them had much for breakfast. He looked again at the path they were on, before his train of thought was interrupted by a loud growling from his own stomach. A quick lunch couldn't hurt, the trail wasn't going anywhere and they'd catch up with the two pokemon eventually, and If Amy was hungry enough to eat every strange berry she saw, it was probably in their best interest to have an intermission from the tracking.

Yeah.. I guess lunch WOULD be a good idea,” he remarked, taking off his coat and spreading it on the ground as if it was a picnic blanket. It was already plenty dirty from the pit earlier, he assured himself, so no need to worry about that. “You know... You really shouldn't eat every berry you come across in the wild. They're not always very good for you.” Sauce picked up the berry, squeezing it in his fingers until it began to burst, and sniffed it. “And sometimes they'll taste pretty lousy as well” He said with tight-lipped revulsion.

After wiping his hand off on his coat, he reached into his bag, shuffling it's contents before producing a bag of Secret 77 designed dried rations. “Luckily, I've got some snacks,” He grinned before tearing off a piece and offering the bag to Amy. Unluckily, this is the only kind of food I have with me, he thought as he chewed the dried meat in his mouth and faked a smile. He had been looking forward to dining out at Marei City, but that plan was out the window now. “It's not... the worst thing ever?” he conceded, as he handed the bag over to his companion.

Ersatz did not share Yorick's optimistic opinion about the meat. He sniffed the bag curiously before turning away in disgust. The Ditto would rather go hungry, or at least he would search for something more appetizing. The mimic sniffed around the area for a bit as he trainer sat resting in the sunlight. Finding nothing he was interested, Ersatz decided his time might be better occupied by digging. The fake fire-dog intensely began swiping at the ground with his paws, sending a shower of dirt coming out from between his rear legs.

"I know, I went to the same seminar you did!" Amy yelled defensively. "I just...I don't always have the best memory when I'm hungry. When I'm STARVING," she added quickly, wide-eyed and penetrating his personal space with her entire face.

Amy gladly took the bag and shoved a large piece of what she would have believed could be shoe leather. She started to chew. "It..." she started brightly, muffled by the food, "...kinda sucks all the moisture right outta your mouth, doesn't it?" She thought back to Cecilia and her Tauros jerky she used to train Sasha.

Riki jumped around in the shower of dirt caused by Ersatz's frenzied digging session. With a little yip of happiness he reared up onto his back paws, waggled his stumpy tail, and started to try to dig as well, beside his new purple friend and mentor. Quell watched out of the corner of her eye, not at all subtle about her uncertainty.

"So," Amy said, swallowing with a grimace caused by the fact the piece of food had retained its entire size despite her chewing attempts, "What would you rather be - a Zangoose that, uh, had no arms or legs, or a Seviper that had legs but they were the weird pale naked legs of a human man?" She was crazy good at small talk! Well - she always thought she might be, if she had ever had anyone to talk to for a long period of time...

"uhhh," Yorick stammered, caught off-guard by such an unexpected question."I Uhh.. a Seviper with human legs, I guess. At least then I could still move around and hide from all the other Seviper while they laugh at my weird legs." He thought on his answer for a moment and added with a slight chuckle, "or use double kick on them."

Sauce leaned back on his hands and kicked his legs out onto the weedy grass in front of him. “You're kind of an odd girl, you know that?” he commented as he looked over at her with a smile. He hoped that by his expression she wouldn't take any offense to what he said. After all, Everyone in the 77 he had met had been odd in some fashion or another. Amy, though, was odd in that she wasn't like them. She was refreshingly nonchalant and easygoing about most things, as evidenced by the close call with the berry a few minutes ago. In contrast, the other 77 Agents he'd met had always seemed so paranoid, studious, micromanaging, and officious. Maybe that was the difference between Field Agents and the behind-the-desk workers that he was used to dealing with in his career.

Sauce hoped she didn't see him that way. It was true , he did seem to be more hard-nosed and on-topic than the girl, but he didn't really enjoy being that way. It wasn't on purpose. Sauce found himself wishing he had acted a little more carefree during their first few days, and resolved to loosen up more during the rest of their time together. After all, trainer's weren't really supposed to adhere to a schedule in the way he had been pushing, the unexpected and often wild experiences were what made great trainers great. Of course, they did have a schedule to keep, but the details of said schedule were yet to be written. This Team Argent hunt was a good example.

Sauce blinked his eyes and subtly shook his head as if to clear his thoughts, suddenly becoming aware that he had been staring absentmindedly at his partner for however long he had been engrossed in his own train of thought. He turned away and choked down another bit of dried meat, embarrassed. “So then, what would you rather be,” He continued the game, unsure of what options he had even planned on giving, “An Aerodactyl with no wings, or... An Aipom without a tail?” Sauce blurted out the first two pokemon he could think of.

Ersatz, deciding that it was finished digging, turned to the smaller pup. He acted instinctively as a Flareon would, bowing down playfully before hopping over and pouncing towards Riki. Happily batting his purple paws, now brown from the mud, at the Electrike and swishing his bushy tail to and fro.

Amy nodded wisely when he gave his answer to her question. "I think that's the right answer," she said. Then he called her odd. She turned to face him, eyes wide with genuine concern. "I'm weird?" she asked. "Am I? I didn't know, I'm sorry..."

She turned away for a moment to process this new information. No one had ever called her weird before. She had barely ever had a conversation with somebody before, not about anything casual. Sometimes she had tried to chat with the other new recruits but they generally treated her like a kid sister. Which was only to be expected, as she had been about ten years younger than the average recruit for most of her teenage years.

Wait, maybe that was why she was weird.

She realised that she had been staring deep into his sunglasses, and then turned away, embarrassed. Then, "Pah!" she said loudly to his question. "What an odd thing to say!" She straightened up and turned away, resting her hands on her hips and staring into the distance. "Mere childrens' whimsy!" She peeked over her shoulder to see if she was getting any sort of reaction. "Pah!" she yelled one more time for emphasis. Pah seemed like a sort of grown-up thing to say.

Riki yipped in dizzied excitement as Ersatz played with him, bouncing up and down on his hind legs and batting his front paws at his new best friend's bushy tail. Quell seemed to think that this type of play was too much for such a small thing that had just been hospitalised, so she stepped over and rested a paw on his back. Riki squeaked and squirmed and quickly realised that he wasn't going anywhere, so he remained flattened. He let out a grumpy sigh from the grassy ground.

"They went over there," Amy nodded, looking at the freshly trampled underbrush and the hurried footprints, arms tightly folded and nose in the air. "Let us not tarry!" she shouted.

Saucedo flinched inwardly as Amy seemed to react poorly to his comment. Of course he would say the wrong thing on such a nice day. “I didn't mean it in a bad way,” He mumbled, feeling almost too timid to remain on the subject and risk offending her further. She seemed so visibly put off by his remark that he was as eager to get up and get going as he assumed she was pretending to be. “Yeah, let's go.” He agreed, voice still quiet.

He packed away the rations he'd brought, stood up and whipped his jacket quickly through the air, shaking the look debris off. Before he pulled it back on, he gave it a once over with his hand and brushed off anything that had been leftover. He glanced down again at his watch, they'd only been stopped for a few minutes, so the Vaporeon and Flareon couldn't have gotten much further. The trail still seemed fresh. He looked around the area for his pokemon, and found the Ditto already moving towards him, having apparently worn out Quell's patience with He and Riki.

Ready to get going, bud?” He asked as he crouched down and gave the purple pokemon an affectionate rub on the top of his head. Ersatz closed his eyes, enjoying his trainer's touch. As Yorick stood back up, the pokemon bounded off towards the trail of flattened grasses, sniffing the air for the scent of the pokemon.

Yorick was fairly certain he'd gotten his bearings at this point, and had decided that the direction they were going was closer to the desert. He shrugged off the voice in his head reminding him that the desert was not the direction there were supposed to be going. After all, he had just made a resolution that he'd be less of a stick-in-the-mud and try to enjoy the journey. Mission aside, there was bound to be something good at the end of this little adventure, even if it just turned out to be good practice.

Amy trailed after her partner, arms tightly folded and nose in the air, a total overexaggeration of irritation, as if she had seen it once in a comic book and was attempting to mimic it. Secretly, though, she was thinking of what her answer to his question would have been...

The desert had crept up on them, she noticed, momentarily forgetting all about her mock anger and trotting forward to look around. Slowly under their feet the earth became dust which became sand. In the distance dunes rolled like waves in a photograph, stock still. The sun was beating down.

She whistled for Sora, who circled twice before fluttering down to her. She chirruped a couple of times to Quell, who listened and then stepped over to pad at a dusty footprint for Amy. The wind had made their trail go close to stale, but Quell was trying to communicate that the Swablu had seen the Eon couple in this direction.

"I guess we should go that way," Amy said, striding off in front of Yorick with her hands on her hips, "if that's not too WEIRD A THING TO-"

To Sauce it would look as though she had disappeared in a cloud of dust, but really she had fallen victim to yet another hole. Two holes in one day was coming pretty close to her personal record...

"Y-Yorick?" she shouted. This hole was much deeper than the last one, and at first she was ready to shout and curse Jimmy the Hole's name once again, but actually...this hole was not as perfectly round and cylindrical like the other one, it seemed more as though a series of interconnected tunnels and caverns had just not been enough to support her weight and she had fallen through.

To her left was a path and to her right was a slightly smaller path, she would have to get down on her hands and knees for. "Hey, I'll...I think I'm going to just make my way through the same direction you're going, and hopefully I'll find my way upwards in this tunnel system, there's no way I can...can you even hear me?"

She could see a small circle of sky above her, and the winds were really picking up up there. With another whistle, Sora had landed on her shoulder, and Quell looked around briefly first before picking up Riki in her jaws and leaping gracefully down the hole.

"If you can hear me...I'll see you soon!" she yelled, and bent over and began to make her way through the tunnel. "Time for some adventuring, I guess!" she added lightly to herself and her pokemon.

His revised assessment about the direction they were heading had definitely turned out to be correct. The badlands gradually changed from a jagged mixture of weeds and dirt to a sloping horizon of dunes and sand. They happened to be trekking through the desert in the very middle of the day as well. A great idea he commented to himself. Sauce removed his jacket once he began to sweat, briefly wondering if it might be a better idea to keep himself covered so as to avoid the almost inevitable sunburn he would receive.

Saucedo disregarded these thoughts as soon as Amy spoke again. It was clear, even to someone as terrible at reading emotions as him, that he'd upset her, and she seemed to be emphasizing her feelings even further as the day passed. As she marched ahead of him, he debated to himself whether or not he should say anything. An apology wouldn't hurt, after all. Or would it? He seemed prone to digging himself deeper into situations like this. Should he even risk stumbling over his words to try and make things better? Why should he even apologize anyway? It was a harmless remark, and if she'd taken it so seriously maybe that was her own fault. He struggled so intently trying to find the right words in his head that he hardly even noticed as they came to a fork in the “road”, which had all but blown away, and the girl took the initiative in deciding which path would lead to the Eevees.

The wind lashed sand across his face, causing the small granules to fly past his sunglasses and into his eyes. Sauce blunk rapidly, trying to clear his bleary vision, and by the time he'd actually regained his eyesight, Amy had vanished. He ran to where he'd last seen her to find Quell skidding down into a collapsed pit, Riki held securely in his jaws. The girl had very Through the wind, Sauce vaguely was able to make out the sound of Amy's voice, but couldn't distinguish the whole sentence. It seemed like she was planning on finding a way out on her own, and although, he was worried, Sauce decided that risking the jump down to her was a worse idea than letting her go alone.

After a moment of thinking about the best course of action, Yorick shouted back to her, cupping his hands around his mouth as he bellowed down in the girl's direction “Okay, good luck and be careful! We'll meet in Marei City if you can't find me!I'm sorry. The man refrained from speaking his apology out loud. She wouldn't have heard it anyway, he decided, turning back down the path.

The wind was picking up even faster now and Sauce, deciding that the heat would be worth the protection, put back on his coat, popping his collar up in a vain effort to shield his face from the barrage of sand.

Ersatz, too, seemed unhappy about the weather, squinting his black Flareon-eyes to see through the storm. Sauce would have returned the pokemon to it's ball, if he wasn't relying on him to lead the way to the other Eevee now. “C'mon Ersatz, lets find those poachers and rescue those Eevee.” Yorick's voice was almost completely covered by the howling and whipping of the sandy winds, but Ersatz seemed to understand, bounding ahead a ways to lead his trainer forward. “Hopefully they've got some kind of shelter we can take,” Yorick commented to himself, trying to lighten his mood.
