Brainstorm hummed, albeit a little off key. Not that anyone would hear, not with his distance from the Lost Light. He adjusted his grip on the radar gun, the jinky little thing was hand made at the request of a few overcharged speed demons that wanted to race a few laps around the Lost Light. Only problem being that it was a massive lap all the way around, so he'd spent the vast majority of his shore leave standing in the middle of a grassy field. Luckily, at this point in time most of the racers had thinned out a sizeable distance from one another, so he only had to wait several minutes or so for one of the six racers to whizz by. The six he knew of anyway. It was pretty uneventful thuse far. They were fast, yeah, but he'd seen faster- pit, he'd gone faster. Not that a simple racer build could keep up with a jet. Not even on a good day. The breeze was nice though. There hadn't really been any available weather reports for this planet, so they'd just have to be cautious of the wind carrying along a few showers. Nothing a quick hop and a skip under the rear thrusters couldn't dry. Though, running under the engines might not be the safest way to dry off. |

The ship taking a stop was perfect excuse for the medic to make a beeline out the medbay doors. Sure, the inventory wasn't the worst he had seen it. First Aid was honestly impressed that the inventory had even been kept up in is absence. Not that he had doubts of Velocity, Aid was just a worrier. So the quick stop was perfect to try and get some more supplies, that is if he hadn't gotten distracted. Off just on the horizon the fast movement had caught Aid's eye. Squinting and focusing his optics, aid watched as one, two... Five? Maybe more? Whatever they were, they were sure booking it. That... Was odd? Well, he thought it was a little off until he saw Brainstorm standing to the side. Oh, Brainstorm. Always so hard at work, always so enthusiastic. The medic might not have always been so enthusiastic himself to see Brainstorm, mostly because catching eye of Brainstorm meant there has been an explosion. This, thankfully, was not the case and so the medic took a hop, skip and a jump towards the medic. "Ah, Brainstorm...!" There was a hesitant wave as Aid jogged over, visor beaming brightly. Hopefully he wouldn't be interfering in his experiment, but the scientist would surly tell him if that were the case, right? |

"Alright, if someone's already crashed on the far side it wasn't my fault. I am but a humble spectator. Humbly spectating." Brainstorm lowered the radar to his side, pressing his free servo to his hip as the medic hesititantly approached. How First Aid had managed a break of any kind had to be a miracle. Brainstorm knew there was just over two hundred mechs getting overcharged and bored right at this moment. Never a good combination. He released a forlorn sigh as he looked on to the far off racers. "I am pretty sure though that this lot had a little something extra in their drinks. A little too much of something extra. But if we're being honest it's probably for the best that they're out here causing a ruckus and not in there." Brainstorm pointed the little radar gun up at the Lost Light while he spoke. If looked a little mightier from this distance, towering and shining bright. He'd compare it to a beacon if it wasn't so fat- wide, wide, primus, a ship can't be fat. "You have wheels don't you? You should join in, show these mechs how an emergency vehicle does it." |

First aid sputtered as Brainstorm gestured and implied that he join in the other racers. Sure, yeah, he was probably faster. He was an ambulance and they had to book it. But all the same, ambulances weren't meant for racing. It was a different kind of fast, as least as far as the medic was concerned. "Oh Primus no, no way I'm going to get involved with their race. Could you imagine if something happened while I was out there? Lottie is a strong medic, yes, but I'm fairly confident she'd like me to be in one piece when I go back up there..." Still. First Aid stood besides the scientist and watched for a few minutes, spectating just how fast they were going. "Should, uh, maybe we stop them? I mean it's better for them out here, I suppose, but I fail to see why they're so riled up to begin with..." First Aid eyed the radar gun briefly before making eye contact with Brainstorm. "Did you just want to test out your gun? Has it not stopped you and other mechs from racing down the freshly polished halls before?" |

"You've got a point there, but the difference between racing down a hallway and racing in a field is the thrill and bragging rights. Sure, you can race down a hallway and still have bragging rights. It just isn't as sweet when you're stuck in the brig for the next mega-cycle." Brainstorm lifted the radar gun when one of the racers zipped by, dragging up a cloud of dust behind them. "Just between you and me, this isn't actually a radar gun. It tracks nearby weather, though the signal I'm receiving is a little jinky." Brainstorm held the screen a little closer to inspect it. "But the green one with the yellow spoiler is definitely the fastest out there." Brainstorm searched the field as he spoke. Big and empty. The field wasn't even the picture book perfect green he was always seeing in pictures. "Despite the romanticized nature of organic worlds they really do make me uncomfortable, it's probably the dirt." Brainstorm cut off mid sentence when the radar beeped, narrowing his optics at the little screen as he continued. "Enough rambling though, what brings you out here?" Brainstorm leveled First Aid with a smile, one of those indistinguishable masked mech ones. |

"You make a solid point there. I guess running laps around the ship can be seen as more exciting, less of a chance of Ultra Magnus flipping his lid as well. Still, I don't see what there is to really brag about other than being fast. Surly there must be more interesting things to have braving rights over." Never had First Aid once hear speed with racing her brought up during a riveting gam of 'never have I ever' down at Swerve's. Then again, it seemed like almost half the ship needed something to feel cool about. No harm if nobody gets hurt, right? "If you're tracking the weather..." Well that was only a bit of a surprise. First Aid mused that as a scientist Brainstorm probably liked to check n monitor all sorts of things. Weather, atmospheric pressures, who knows what. It was almost admirable just how dedicated to his work he was. Optics followed out to the field, spotting the green and yellow mech. "... Jeeze, he's really booking it... That can't possibly be safe.." Dirt. It wasn't something the medic was fond of either. Least they both had that to relate with. As far as organic life with, Aid usually found it interesting. While he was powerless to assist in treatment of anything organic, he did often try to do at least minor research on habits of the organic life they encountered. A minimal understanding, in case a turn for the worst occurred. Though while more complex organics where interesting, it was plant life that was his favorite. But that usually came hand in hand with dirt. "Ah, I merely stepped off ship to see about doing a supply run. Inventory isn't all too low, so if it's out of the question we aren't in any real danger, but it just seemed like the responsible thing to do and not, uh, put it off till last minute. Lottie's up there but thankfully the most injuries we have had were some broken optics. Bar fight I believe? I kind of couldn't tell what they were rambling about. Nothing we couldn't fix, which is the important part." |

"There probably are more interesting things to do. The oxygen levels are pretty high on this world, you think they'd find a big bug to squash- gross, but hey some mechs are easily entertained." Brainstorm gave up on the little device, he'd have to recalibrate the little satellite setup in his lab. That or someone stopped by his workshop and messed with it. That would be a very brave thing to do, also pretty foolish. "If medibay supplies are looking good then what supplies are you running for? Also where? Didn't seem like the locals had much to offer, but if it's any good I might stop by and take a look for myself when I can." Not being in danger of running out of supplies was always a good thing. But organizing trades between othe races was always stressful, especially the organic ones. Organics are pretty gross too, in his opinion. Fascinating, but gross. First Aid is a good doctor, definitely more patient with his patients than Ratchet had been. Maybe in a different life, one where wounds and energon spattered plating didn't make him squeamish Brainstorm could explore that very limited medical streak he had. In this life he'd rather stand aside and let the professionals take the wheel. |

“Hmm. If I were to guess, if the organic life here was large then the insects would also be equally scaled? I remember reading once, it was so long ago, that Earth used to be covered in these large organic things, uh, I think it was ‘mushroom’? Though I’m not sure if that has anything to do with the oxygen levels or not, that’s your field of expertise. Mine is to patch up those fellas down there should they encounter one of these big bugs should one manage to squash them instead of the other way around.” That had First Aid snickering. Not at shipmates getting hurt, oh Primus no, but at the thought of Brainstorm getting a first row seat to some organic squashing. Though Aid wasn’t sure he had the stomach for that. He could be elbow deep in a mech without the single turn of his stomach, no problems there, but the second he has to witness the damage take place? That’s where, ironically, he found himself a little squeamish. “Well, while supplies are looking fine, I also have no idea when there’s going to be another catastrophe on board. Though, I’m sure you could also half chalk this up to me feeling a little itch to walk around. I can only stare at white walls and scalpels for so long before I need a bit of a fresh view. Though, for me to tell Lottie “I wanna go outside and walk around” is far less of a necessity than suggest looking for some supplies to trade for.” “So, Brainstorm, when’s the next time you plan on setting something on fire after we lift off? I never actually get the chance to scope out your station of action. I can only imagine how much more interesting it is than other places on the ship.” He was being cheeky, however, First Aid really did have interest in Brainstorm’s work. While there were a lot of medical hazards, it never stopped the medic from being curious what went on behind those lab doors. Asides from the main reason First Aid never really left the medbay, the only other reason he had for not visiting the scientist was fear of becoming the next subject. |

"Well, after I finish taking this apart," Brainstorm motioned to the radar gun while he spoke "-whether that be on a table or behind the blast shield, I was actually planning a gun that did the opposite of fire. Figured I'd try something new and fall back on one of the old clichés and build a freeze ray. That definitely won't be the running title when its done, not that the actual title matters now. I ended up starting the body of the gun and got bored halfway through. So, I've been thinking and, why not work the mass-displacement gun's blueprints into it? Haven't decided which should come first though, the freezing part or the shrinking part." Explaining the weapon to the mech that'd probably have to help with the first injury from it was never a good idea, especially when said gun would almost certainly kill whatever poor spark happened to be in front of it. "I'll be extra careful with this one. Promise." Brainstorm shuffled for a moment, squaring his servos on his hips. It was... oddly silent. He couldn't tell if the medic was selecting an answer still or if it was silent mortification. "Frozen limbs probably aren't the worst thing you've ever had to fix up though, huh?" That was, of course, discluding the whole thing with Overlord. The whole thing had been... memorable? Haunting was probably a better word. It was something he tried not to think about too hard before recharging, something everyone tried not to think about. ((Hey Charl, you've mentioned before that you're a little shy, but if you need someone to talk to right now I'd be all about that. I'm also a little shy and this my first forum too, but having someone to talk to can make things a lot more bareable. If you need some time off of the forum we could always pick this up later too. srry for my bullshit science btw. i love space science but this is so different im having to pull up google every time i rp.)) |

Aid swallowed a bit thicker. He was trying his best to leave other accidents in the past. Cosmic rust was no fun to treat. Watching Pharma slice... No. Nope. Not happening. Not here, not now, now was not the time for these thoughts. First Aid finally had Brainstorm buddying up with him, he wasn't going to be a wet blanket. Besides, Brainstorm probably had his own horrors he wouldn't want to think about. Another place, another time, preferably with a tall glass of nightmare fuel. "You know from first hand experience that frozen limbs are by far not the worst thing I've had to fix. Be it you yourself or the victim of your experiments. I like to believe it's not a test of my medical expertise, and just honest accidents at the hands of science. If I catch wind of you freezing limbs to test me, well, I can't say what I'd do for certain to squash that issue myself." He was smiling and, Primus, it felt so good to smile and laugh. He was positive that Brainstorm would end up freezing at least part of Percy and whirl, if Aid were to guess who would be the first victims of this 'no-so-freeze-ray' but it, hopefully, wouldn't be too much trouble to fix up when it inevitably happened. "I get getting bored and making a freeze ray, and I also get getting bored and waiting to spice it up a bit, but I fail to see how shrinking and freezing simultaneously is going to benifit one of the other? Or is it simply just something to do just because you can? Though, admittedly, the fact you can even come up with and design these sorts of things is really astounding?" (( I PM'd you, but I really just want to say thank you again for this little ooc message. It makes me feel really good since a lot of the time I'm really almost scared when I sign in here aha. Also you're as much of a bullshit scientist as I am a bullshit medic aha!)) |

"Oh, don't be silly, I'd never freeze someone on purpose." Brainstorm shook his head at the thought. "Not that I don't try a little to keep you medics on your feet. I promise I won't freeze limbs to test you now though. No point in testing you on something you've already fixed before right?" Brainstorm smiled as he spoke. Glancing up to the sky to check on the movement of clouds above. While he didn't enjoy organic life anymore than the next mech, he did enjoy how peaceful it was despite the growing crawl of grass, trees, and bushes that supported the surrounding ecosystem thriving amongst the planet's foliage. The little fuzzy ones with wings were definitely his favorite. "Shrinking and freezing with a single shot isn't going to have any real benefit, and no matter which comes first it'll still be nearly simultaneous and the product will always be a small frozen body part, but if I'm able to unsync the time between the congealing sequence and the mass-displacement it'll be fun to watch." Brainstorm nodded to himself for a moment in thought. "Definitely going with the freezing first. If the target shrinks to small before the second shot impacts it'll definitely miss." He'd have to write that down at some point before he forgot. Brainstorm took a couple steps back when the mech with the green spoiler edged the straight away a little too close for comfort. Brainstorm snapped his vents closed when the speeder ripped up a cloud of dust, flapping his servo in front of himself to disperse the agitating cloud. |

Being so Engadget with Brainstorm had to say, First Aid was completely distracted from the racers lapping the ship. That is until the dust cloud smacked into him far first. Pity attempt at closing his vents, he at least as his face mask and visor to protect those areas. Still didn't stop him from instinctively covering his face with his servos. A sputtering, staticky wheezing cough left his vocalizer, noting he'd need to quickly reset that. Bleh. Thankfully there was no real damage. Just a bit of dust clinging to his paint but nothing he couldn't wipe off. As soon as the cloud vanished, the medic began to cycle his vents, trying to get all the dirt out before it would cause him to start choking further. "So... S-so that's how that feels... To get dirt thrown into ones vents..." He sputtered again, looking disgusting. "Absolutely unpleasant... I should make check of this for my patients more often..." After a few more coughs, Aid regained himself. This whole experience gave him, well, he felt mostly melancholic. It was odd. Being able to experience and see this vast organic strip and yet, none of the people he was closest with could share this moment with him. Perhaps Brainstorm could relate with him on that one. Maybe he should offer the mech a drink sometime... "Brainstorm, maybe sometime when you're not freezing and shrinking things... Maybe if you ever find yourself free we could go to Swerve's. I'll treat for a round." It wasn't just to talk about the past and things they'd rather forget, that was just a passing thought, it was more about strengthening friendships now that First Aid had this second chance. "I've let too many things pass through my fingers to at least not extend the offer. Though I do hope at the very least you show me your gun once you've worked out the kinks with it." |

Brainstorm ruffled his plating uncomfortably. Standing aside First Aid and the receding cloud as the medic faired worse. Brainstorm glanced back at his wings, wiggling then up and down to dislodge the fine dusting of dirt. He nodded in solemn greement with the mech as he spoke. Extremely unpleasant. The feeling of dirt in his joints made him miss the idealism of an entirely metal world more than ever. Brainstorm redirected his attention to First Aid when he spoke again. Being two steps ahead was always something Brainstorm prided himself to do, and he almost always succeeded in doing such. But the honest offer for drinks was so fresh and unexpected. He was caught unaware, his answer in turn never coming as First Aid elaborated further. "That sounds... really nice actually." Brainstorm could say he hung out with friends at Swerve's all the time. But Nautica and Chromedome rarely extended a verbal offer for it. "In that case, second rounds' on me." "And of course I'll show you the finished prod-" Brainstorm's plating seized inward, ventilations stalling with a harsh whoosh of air from his vents to disperse the dust from inside. He stood disorientated for a moment until he came back to himself. Blinking awkwardly as his vents cycled so they weren't flared. "Chromedome wasn't lying then! All my life and he's the only mech I've ever seen sneeze." "But, I would be thrilled to show you the finished product." Brainstorm really just wanted to chuck the radar gun as far as he could and call it a day, but now that he had a basic idea of how to go about enhancing the freeze ray he didn't want to wait. "There's no fun in describing the entire scheme without showing you the end result, right?" |

Had First Aid been closer to Brainstorm, not physically but relationship wise, he would have boldly reached forwards and drawn a smiley face across the dust on the scientists chest. Just the thought had him wheezing, though there was no way for Brainstorm to notice, he was already in the midsts of an uncomfortable coughing fit. Fans sputtering slowly calmed themselves, and yes despite how unpleasant it had been First Aid couldn't help but smile. It had been a long time since he had been out on the field. Either organic or metal. Well. Not as long as he was imagining, he just got back from his adventures on Cybertron but even that was hardly anything compared to his time spent between Delphi and the medbay. This was different. This wasn't forced, this wasn't battle, this was optional. Almost completely peaceful. Well asides from the dirt. And then Brainstorm sneezed. It hasn't been the first, but it was still a rare occurrence for their bodies. First Aid was mildly jealous he didn't get to experience the sensation but, the way brainstorm almost seemed to puff up was absolutely adorable. He couldn't help but beam, almost afraid to comment and embarrass the other bot. "I'm not sure you'll want to treat me to more than a round, Brainstorm. I'm a bit of a heavy drinker, I'll have to make sure Lottie is having an easy night because there's no promises that I won't go back to my habsuite sober." Gosh this was just... Really healthy. Really nice. Brainstorm was such an interesting bot, all the projects aside. It was really nice to feel like he was connecting with someone, considering the only bots he had previously really connected with weren't scheduled to come back any time soon. Besides, maybe being closed with Brainstorm would keep him on his toes and his optics out of his Wreckers issues. "I'm gonna hold you to that word, Brainstorm. Freezing or shrinking, I don't want to be a target but I would like to see it in action. Maybe on, uh, something not important though. A cup or... I don't know, not a crew mate? Anyways, even if you find yourself with all your limbs intact and you're maybe just bored or stumped on a project, you can always come to say hi. That is, uh, unless I'm elbow deep in surgery. No exaggeration there. We are a bit understaffed and I have no idea when the next catastrophic disaster is going to happen." |

"Oh? A heavy drinker? Didn't have you pinned as the type. And who doesn't trip back to their hab at least a little intoxicated after a good night at Swerve's? Lucky for you I'm excellent at holding my engex." He was lying, and the overly confident servo on his hip was sure to give it away. He had a nagging feeling First Aid probably knew better regardless of the hint. Good thing Swerve watered it down. First Aid was decidedly not what little the rumor mill had offered. Sympathetic, caring, of course these were traits that most all mechs had somewhere within them. There was a warm dose of honest humor in them, and an incredible knack for lightening the mood. "I'll be testing the gun in a controlled environment, probably on an assortment of things in various physical states. But you're definitely welcome to stop by and watch." Brainstorm answered. "And while the medibay is an unsettling and overly sterile environment, in my opinion, I'd still love to drop by with or without injuries to say hello." Understaffed was definitely putting it lightly. They had plenty of fighters, considering how recently the war had ended it wasn't that unusual. It was a little dangerous to only have a small handful of medics to take on 200+ crew members. Was a medic something that could be added to a requisitions order? |
