"Pretty sure," Skids responded. There was a slight chance that something would go wrong - Morphe's Law or something like that - but the odds were very much in their favor. Skids wasn't going to risk panicking Swerve further by going into detail about what might go wrong. He'd rather just get the minibot out of there and to safety. So he gave Swerve a grin, trying to reassure his friend. "C'mon, have I ever let you down?" Excluding the months he'd never even realized that Swerve had locked himself in his hab-suite with a projected image interacting with everyone while the real Swerve got worse and worse. Skids hadn't known; he should have, but he hadn't. He occasionally berated himself for it, but in the end, he'd helped save the other mech and he was making up for it by truly befriending Swerve since. Skids put the thoughts to the back of his mind and leaned to reach for Swerve again. He heard the elevator car groan and could feel a slight tremble under him. He grabbed Swerve's hand, gripping tight, and the tremble stopped. "Slowly," he told Swerve as he started pulling the other mech through the roof. "I've got my grappling hook anchored. Just don't let go of my hand." |

Swerve winced and glanced down at the floor when the elevator groaned and shook. It'd have been a cruel twist of fate if the elevator had dropped then and there, right when he was so close to getting out. He'd really have to start looking into what he did to piss off Primus at that point. The thought was dropped, however, when he felt Skids' hand close over his own. Thankfully, the noises and tremors subsided shortly after. As Skids began to pull him up, Swerve grabbed onto his wrist with his free hand. He really did not want to fall, not after everything he'd already been through. Bouncing back quickly from accidents was something Swerve was generally good at, but the only bouncing he'd be doing if he slipped was off the bottom of the elevator shaft. "Wouldn't dream of letting go, bud," Swerve's voice wavered slightly, his chest still tight with panic, but he did his best to stay calm. "Can't imagine where we'd be now if you didn't have that grappling hook." He could imagine where they'd be, actually, and in surprising detail. Nowhere good, and definitely nowhere that he wanted to think about. At least he was finally getting out of this damned elevator. Swerve repeated that fact in his head to keep him from panicking anymore than he already was. Thinking about it, it was a shame he had to leave the crate behind, he'd really need a drink after all of this was over. |

"Yeah, I can't imagine where I'd be now if I didn't have it, either," Skids replied. The grappling hook had done him a lot of good over the centuries, more than what most people would expect. It was, in some cases, more useful than his outlier abilities and had gotten him out of a few jams. Of course, it'd gotten him into a few of them, too, but that was beside the point. "Great thing to have handy, really." Swerve was almost out and so far, the elevator was staying in place. There was the occasional groan, which made Skids tense and hold perfectly still from time to time, but as each groan passed without the car falling, he tugged Swerve up again. Soon enough, he'd pulled Swerve's legs through the hole in the elevator roof. Now they just had to get across to the door. That could be easy enough. "Let's make this quick," Skids suggested. "Get on my back and I'll swing us over to the door. It'll be safer than trying to walk over the elevator." |

Even though Swerve wasn't technically in the elevator anymore, the noises it made still scared him. Sure, Skids had him now, but given Skids' own reaction to freeze, Swerve didn't feel unwarranted at all in his fear. If Skids was worried, Swerve was sure as hell going to be worried. He'd have been worried regardless, honestly, but now he just had further validation for it. Once he was on the roof of the elevator, Swerve felt like his legs were going to give out. They were shaky and almost felt numb, but he managed to stay standing. He took the opportunity to glance around the elevator shaft. Dark, scary, and aside from the occasional noises from the elevator car, quiet. Another area of the ship to be filed under Swerve's 'No Fun' list. Now that he was actually out of the elevator car and with Skids, Swerve just wanted out of the elevator shaft. The sooner he was able to put his feet on solid flooring, the better. When Skids told him to get on his back, the minibot wasted no time in doing what he was told. Gripping onto Skids' shoulders tightly, Swerve took one last glance down into the elevator car and the crate inside it. "Goodbye, rickety death trap, and goodbye, Engex. You've made a noble sacrifice for a noble cause." |

Skids made sure that Swerve was holding on tight and wasn't going to fall, then double-checked the grip on his grappling hook. He couldn't take any chances now. This whole ordeal was almost over. As soon as he was sure of his footing, the anchoring of his hook, and the grip Swerve had on him, Skids took a step back to lunge for the door. The movement had the elevator shifting under his feet and there was a screech as the car fell from underneath them - - thankfully, he was already swinging towards door when the car fell. He didn't look down to see how far it fell, concentrating on just getting them through the door. He finished the swing, feet landing heavy on the floor a few feet from the elevator entrance. Ex-venting in relief, Skids took one more step forward, then leaned back to let Swerve get down. "And that's how you rescue your friends from an elevator!" he announced, letting his relief into his voice. "How're you holding up, Swerve?" |

Swerve braced himself as Skids got ready to swing. The sudden screech of the falling elevator was amplified by the confines of the elevator shaft and it made the minibot flinch and shut his eyes tightly, his visor going dim. He didn't even want to risk catching a glimpse of the empty air beneath them, Swerve was scared enough. Sure, he'd survived much worse, but it didn't make the entire situation any less terrifying. Skids' landing caused Swerve to jolt and tightened his grip on his shoulders. His visor brightened again as he hesitantly looked around. They were a decent distance from the opening of the elevator shaft. Swerve dropped down onto the floor when Skids leaned back, almost immediately falling to his hands and knees as his legs collapsed underneath him. A wave of relief washed over him as he shook, and the laugh that left his mouth was broken and hoarse, making it sound like he was going to cry. "Uh, well, I'm in one piece, can't ask for much more than that," The minibot sat up, only to lay on his back and stare at the ceiling. "I'm just gonna... Lay here for a couple minutes. Yeah." He really would need a drink, but that'd have to wait until later. For now, Swerve was content with just laying on the floor and appreciating the fact that he wasn't dead. One could never be too appreciative of being alive, or having friends who'd risk their own lives for you. That was nice, too. |

Skids untangled his grappling hook from the duct it'd caught itself on and retracted it, letting it shift back away after a moment. He was feeling slightly buzzed from the rescue, glad to have pulled it off successfully. Oh, the engex was probably a loss, but Swerve wasn't hurt. That was the important thing; Swerve was, nerves aside, fine. Moving back, Skids sat down next to Swerve. "Take all the time you need," he told the minibot. He didn't think Swerve would be ready to jump up and head away the moment he was out of the elevator. Near-death experiences - or near-near-death experiences like this - weren't that easy to recover from. At least Swerve was talking. "I'll stick with you until you're alright. And I'll call Brainstorm about the elevator. Maybe some of the engex is salvageable. Want me to call Ten and let him know where you are?" |

"Ah who cares about the Engex, there's more down in the cargo bay," Swerve thought back briefly to the idea of someone dying from lack of a drink and chuckled a bit to himself. "But yeah, if you could call Ten that'd be great. I'm sure he'd wanna know that I'm okay." He began to think about just how worried Ten must have been at the moment. Swerve did say he'd only be gone for a few minutes, and yet here he was just laying on the floor. He'd be sure to apologize once he got back to the bar. And maybe even give Ten a day off or two, he didn't get very many of those. The minibot held his hands above his face for a few moments, watching them shake. They weren't shaking as bad as they were in the elevator, or even as bad as they were just a minute ago. Still, he clenched his hands again and folded his arms over his chest, turning his gaze to the ceiling. He stayed silent for a good few moments in thought before speaking again, very calmly and casually. "We should invest in some stairs." |

"Pretty sure your customers care," Skids pointed out. Of course, most of them could go a while without a drink if it was going to take a little longer for Swerve to restock after a near disaster with a broken elevator. If they were really that hard up for a drink, they could help retrieve the engex from the cargo bay so Swerve didn't have to carry it all himself. Skids commed Ten and explained what had happened. For an bot with a very limited vocabulary, the former Legislator was very articulate through variation in tone to let Skids know that he'd been concerned. It was enough to make the super-learner smile, glad that Swerve had a loyal employee in Ten that cared about him. Once he'd reassured Ten that Swerve would be back to the bar soon, he ended the call and leaned back, palms against the floor as he sat next to his friend. "What we need is proper maintenance on this ship," he replied. "Rodimus is running Perceptor ragged, having him do all the maintenance himself. No wonder we've got faulty elevators and creaky pipes in the wash racks." |

Of course the customers would care, but the drinks were really all they cared about. Really, if they were so in need of a drink, they could always go to Visages. Swerve hated to admit it, but Visages was a really nice bar. He'd popped in once or twice during his off hours. That was another thing, Visages was apparently open 24/7, unlike his own little bar. Whatever, they can lose sleep all they want, people still showed up to Swerve's. A bar didn't need to be open constantly to be a good bar. Swerve snapped out of his internal bitterness when Skids started talking about how poor the maintenance was. Why was Perceptor expected to be able to upkeep maintenance throughout the entire ship by himself? No one is that good at their job. If there was someone out there who could keep a ship as big as the Lost Light in order by themself, Swerve hadn't met them yet. "You'd think a little maintenance crew would have been set up by now, huh?" Swerve finally sat up, idly tapping on the back of his hand. "Correct me if I'm wrong, but that's- that's a thing on most ships, isn't it?" |

"You'd think, but then you have to remember most of us didn't sign up to be maintenance crew," Skids pointed out. Most of the crew had signed up to be part of the quest without really taking on much of a role outside of 'adventurer' on the ship. There was a handful of mechs who were specialized, given positions in command and security, but then there was Team Rodimus and resident science types. "I'm not jumping up to be maintenance crew myself, but we should talk to Rodimus about this." He'd put some time in helping Perceptor with the ship until a proper crew was put together, though. He had the skills to fix a lot of things around the ship and those he didn't have the skills for, he'd pick them up quickly. That could wait until later, though. For now, he was still concerned about Swerve. "Want to head back to the bar?" |

Having more than one bot working maintenance would probably be a good idea. Wouldn't want anymore near-disasters like the elevator. Swerve would easily get way too distracted to ever be good at more important maintenance work, but he did know of a couple other mechs who might fit the bill. "Well, hey, if we're gonna be gathering together a maintenance crew, I know some bots. They, uh, might not be too willing at first, but they've got enough skill to not accidentally blow up the ship, at least." In truth, some of the particular bots that came to mind would probably just outright refuse, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to try and talk to them about it. Would it really be too much to ask for them to tweak something on the ship here or there? Swerve snapped out of his train of thought when Skids mentioned the bar again. Right, they really should be getting back. Now that Swerve's legs didn't feel like jelly and he was more or less done shaking, it'd be no trouble at all. "Yeah, we should go. Ten should have been let off work by now, so I should probably go deal with that." The minibot let out a sigh as he stood up. Against his better judgement, he briefly glanced back over at the now empty elevator shaft. Swerve's face took on a faint grimace and he shuddered, quickly tearing his gaze away to look down the hall. The sooner he was back at his bar, the better. |
