Ratchet had some big shoes to fill, but his footsteps were even easier to follow. This had been quite the slip and slide of downward events, but it lead to First Aid following the previous CMO's track record of going to the bar just about every night. Tonight was no different, only the difference between Ratchet and Aid was the politeness. Ratchet had an attitude, crankiness to him. Aid liked to believe he was better company.

Well this visit to the bar was different. Oh yes. Upon opening the doors First Aid hadn't expected to see the bar keep leaning over, face full of discomfort. First pede into the room, Aid was already scanning Swerve. Not good.

"Ah, ah, ah, Swerve? Swerve?"

In the blink of an optic Aid was at the counter, trying to assess Swerve's condition. "Swerve, how are you feeling?"

Irrelevant question but it could gauge just how well he could think to answer. It would give First Aid some time to think, get Swerve to the bay, and get to work. The bartender wasn't known for the best self care, but neither was Aid.

Using Nightmare Fuel to try and make a new drink? A very, very bad idea, as Swerve had come to find out. He knew the stuff was strong, but he didn't think the consequences of mixing it with other drinks would be this bad. Just one glass of the concoction had him struggling to stay standing, and to say that he felt sick would be a massive understatement. Swerve kept losing his train of thought and grimaced as he shook his head a bit. It took him a few moments to realize someone had walked up to him. First Aid? He was pretty sure it was First Aid.

"What? Hey, sorry, did you.." Swerve frowned again and shook his head. "Did you say something? Sorry, bad drink. Really bad drink."

He tried to stand up straight and motion to the empty glass, but doing so only made him lose his balance and he stumbled back. Attempting and failing to grab onto the counter, he ended up falling and landing on his back, face twisting in an expression of pain. Swerve didn't try to sit up, he wasn't sure he even could if he tried. This was going to be a very bad day.

Well that was all First Aid needed to hear from the minibot. Rounding the counter fluidly, First Aid knelt besides him for a moment, more or less to see if Swerve should even be moved. He could always call Lottie to run the crash cart here, but he already didn't know just how long Swerve had been lying here for before he was found.

Gently, as Aid was known for, his hands hooked around the minibot, scooping him up slowly. It was like cradling, not a baby, but almost like a cat. While First Aid was smal himself, and Swerve wasn't exactly the lightest, he was easily accommodated and with fast strides Aid was off and out of the bar. Trying to be aware of other bots in the hallway, as soon as they saw the urgency in First Aid's arguable "death march", the medic had successfully cut a path in the hall without even needing to yell. Worst case scenario: he had sirens for a reason.

Using his pronged foot to open the medbay door, Aid's shoulder pushed it for the clearance he needed to get inside and rush Swerve into a berth. Running another brief scan with his optics, Aid was fully focused on the barkeep.

"Swerve?" He tested, seeing if he would answer. "Swerve, you said you had a bad drink? What was it that you had mixed?"

It was starting to look like the minibot would just need his tanks pumped and some medgrade flushed into his lines. Nothing terrible, but also not pleasant.

Everything felt like it was spinning, and Swerve hardly noticed when First Aid picked him up. He didn't resist, not that he would have been able to in his current state. His visor dimmed and brightened as he blinked hard, part of him wanting to get a good look at where they were headed, and another part of him just wanting to sleep this whole thing off.

In seemingly no time at all, Swerve found himself laying on one of the berths in the medbay, or at least he was pretty sure it was the medbay, and he wasn't sure whether First Aid was just super fast or if he'd been dozing on their way down. Either way, it took him a couple seconds to register that First Aid was talking to him again, something about the drink.

"The drink? Um..." Swerve brought a hand up to his face to cover his visor. His head was foggy, and it was getting increasingly harder to think. "I mixed the green stuff, Nightmare Fuel, I think, and some.. Other stuff. Some other strong drinks. Hey, uh, this is.. We're in the medbay, right?"

He took his hand away from his visor and tried to look around, frowning as everything kept going in and out of focus. From what he could make out, he was almost positive now that he was in the medbay.

"Okay, yeah, medbay," Swerve gave a feeble double thumbs up, looking back up at the ceiling and blinking again. "Got that squared away, yeah, heheh."

Aid quickly fetched Swerve's file, looking over to see if he would have any allergic reactions to either of the combined liquids. Drawing up nothing that could cause that sort of mistake, aid abandoned the pad in favor of checking over Swerve again.

Making sure he was at least slouched, Aid wasn't going to push him to sit upright just yet but lying down completely flat was going to be a no-no, Aid gently took swerve's hand and listened to what he had to say.

"Yes, you are in the medbay. Swerve, you accidentally poisoned yourself. Not sure just how much given your job and your size just yet, but I'm gonna get you better."

Tank pumping wasn't fun or pleasant but it was far from the end of the world. He looked over swerve one more time, giving another firm little hand squeeze.

"I need you to stay awake, okay Swerve? Can you sing for me while I get what we need to get you feeling better?"

Aid really hadn't wanted for him to exert himself but it was necessary to keep the mini awake. Swerve was chatty as is, but this could be a better way to keep him conscious instead of warbling about nothing. Until swerve would answer him, aid gripped his hand, using his fingers to gently rub the back of his palm.

The shift to a slouching position caused Swerve to remember just how nauseous he was, and he pulled a face of discomfort as he groaned quietly. Poisoned himself? Well, wasn't that just great. Why did he ever think mixing those drinks was a good idea? He'd certainly never do it again after this, that was for sure.

Swerve's head felt heavy, and sleeping really did seem like a good idea at the moment, but the feeling of First Aid squeezing his hand snapped him back to attention just in time to hear the medic ask him to sing. Now that definitely warranted his full concentration.

"Oh, yeah yeah, sure, I can sing for you," There was a brief pause, as if he'd forgotten what he was talking about, but Swerve shook his head and resumed talking. "I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I'm- I like to think I'm pretty good at it. Singing."

The minibot thought for a moment about what to sing, and quickly settled with a catchy pop song from Earth. He couldn't quite remember the full name of the band, Marina something or other, and he couldn't remember all the words to the song itself, but he began to sing nonetheless.

Being in the state he was, Swerve was horribly off-tempo, off-tune, and just trailed off into slurred mumbles when he got to parts of the song he couldn't remember. As bad as he was at it, singing was helping keep him awake, even if he didn't want to be. But, hey, First Aid wanted him to sing, and he was holding his hand, how could Swerve say no?

Had aid been more familiar with Swerve's song of choice, he would have joined in. Instead he had to work quick, gently lowering Swerve's hand to gather all the equipment. He'd need some lines for once he was done with the initial pumping of his tank to flush it thoroughly. But First Aid always worked fast, bringing everything bedside before Sweve could even finish.

"You sound so lovely." He complemented Swerve for his hard work, giving another assuring squeeze to his servo. Now was the hard part. Reaching bedside to his newly brought over equipment, aid held a cube to Swerve's lips.

"Swerve, this isn't going to taste too great, but I'm gonna need you to try and gargle this. Then you can swallow it."

He hadn't want to overwhelm the minibot with the details, but he wanted to at least numb out Swerve's intake before I began to jam tubes down into his tank. He wouldn't have enough time to work had he just simply turned the receptors off, that would limit him to an hour. He'd need a little more time than that, assuming Swerve was on his best behavior.

Swerve ended up trailing off and not even really finishing the song, but First Aid had seemed pleased with his efforts regardless. The medic had even squeezed his hand again, and that was always nice. He couldn't help but notice, however, all the new stuff that was brought over. From what he could make out, there were tubes and pumps of some kind. Swerve sure felt bad for the sucker that was going to be subjected to that mess.

His thoughts were interrupted when First Aid held the glass up to his mouth. Swerve frowned and turned his head away from the cube. The last thing he wanted at the moment was another drink, especially if it wasn't going to taste good.

"Do I have to drink this?" He eyed the cube with disdain for a few moments, but in the end did what he was told. The liquid made the inside of his mouth tingle, and then go numb. This, and the taste, made Swerve's frown turn into a grimace of disgust as he swallowed. "Eugh, gross..."

The numbness of his mouth made Swerve's voice sound a little more slurred than before, though he hardly noticed it himself. At the moment, he was actually more curious about why he'd even had to drink that gross stuff. He'd have asked, but First Aid was a doctor, Swerve trusted that he knew what he was doing.

Once Swerve had cooperated, with little fuss Aid noticed (he’d make sure to deliver the little minibot some baked energon goodies when he had the chance for his perfect behavior). This next bit was the kicker. Gently he caressed Swerve’s hand, trying to keep him calm. A soft hum, an old war song slowed to sound more like a lullaby, Aid did his best to open a panel on Swerve’s arm and inject him with only a mild anesthetic. It would give him enough time to get Swerve all good with no risk of Swerve hurting himself all the while.

Thankfully Sweve was a minibot. Pumping his stomach had been simple. Just a simple insert of the tube down his intake and the hard part was soon over. He still had a few moments before Swerve would wake back up to get his lines in, starting to flush him out. He’d be feeling better than he had in years, Aid was willing to bet, though Swerve would still need to stay in the bay for a little bit. By tomorrow morning he would be discharged at the latest, but it was more of a precaution. It wasn’t like Aid was trapping him to stay and be his friend. Imagine?

Satisfied with his work, First Aid sat down by Swerve, taking the minibot’s hand for when he’d still wake any moment. To his side on the desk was a cube of medical grade, not the best tasting but after being poisoned it would be best to start simple. Maybe once he was feeling better Aid could allow Swerve to intake something sweeter and less bitter. At the first sign of any optic flickers or nose wrinkles, Aid immediately began to hum where he had left off, giving Swerve an illusion of comfort for when he woke up disorientated.

It was never good to wake up in the medbay, let alone with a sore intake and feeling empty. Hopefully the CMO’s presence would prove some sort of comfort. He liked to think he was at least soothing, if not the cutest nurse the Lost Light had. That should count for something.

The nausea was starting to kick in again, much to Swerve's dismay. As he shifted in discomfort, he heard First Aid beginning to hum. The tune sounded vaguely familiar, but Swerve couldn't quite place it. Either way, it was nice, and Swerve almost hadn't noticed the medic open the panel on his arm. He thought to ask what he was doing, but the words just didn't come. There was what felt like a small sting on his arm and then, just like that, he was out.

When he finally began to wake up, it was slow. Visor flickering and brightening, the first thing Swerve noticed was First Aid humming again. Just as nice and calming as he'd last heard. The second thing he noticed was the wonderful absence of nausea. In its place was a hollow feeling that wasn't particularly pleasant, but still much more bearable than feeling like he was going to purge. His intake was sore as well, he noted. Swerve was starting to get an idea of what that equipment had been for.

"How long was I out..?" Swerve's voice was hoarse, and it hurt slightly to speak. It wasn't anything too bad, but it still caused him to frown and rub at his throat.

Aside from the sore intake, the hollow feeling in his tank, a general fatigue from the accidental poisoning, and the leftover grogginess from the anesthetic, Swerve actually felt pretty okay. Waking up in the medbay didn't really bother him all that much, either. It wouldn't be the first or second time he'd woken up in the medbay. He still appreciated First Aid's attempts to comfort him, though.

“Good morning, or well, afternoon now. Closer to evening really. But you haven’t been out for too long though, I assure you. Everything went swiftly, by the way.”

It was best to just let Swerve wake up a little more before holding up more deep questioning and conversation. In the meantime, First Aid passed Swerve’s servo between his own, freeing up the opposite one to get a nice grip on the cube he had sat to the side.

“I’m sure you’re feeling a bit more empty than before, am I right? Think you have the strength to hold it yourself, or would you rather I hold it for you?”

Nine out of ten times the mechs Aid treated liked to feel pampered, even if they clearly had the energy to hold their own cube. Never did it bother the little nurse, nor did it bother him now that he had become CMO. Patient comfort was always the tip top priority.

“You’ll be feeling better soon, if you don’t already feel a little better. You can expect your intake to stop feeling sore by tomorrow, though I really do recommend being a bit kind to your stomach in the meantime. Medigade in the meantime, refuel and recharge are your priorities while you’re here in the bay, mmm? I promise by tomorrow you’ll be back on your feet and serving drinks, sound good?”

Giving another little assuring squeeze to his servo, Aid offered the cube out, waiting to see Swerve’s choice. Unless someone had come into the medbay and Lottie couldn’t handle it on her own, Swerve was Aid’s full focus. Surely the little minibot would like the added affection and attention, yeah?

Swerve listened to First Aid as he talked. He really did have a nice voice. First Aid could read numbers out of a phone book and it'd still be calming to listen to. Though when he'd offered to hold the glass for him, Swerve suddenly felt a little embarrassed.

"Oh, I can, uh... I can hold it, it's no problem." He didn't want to burden First Aid any more than he probably already was, and carefully took the cube from the medic's hand. Swerve felt like he'd already made enough of a fool out of himself.

Glancing down at the cube, Swerve hesitantly took a sip. Medigrade didn't exactly taste bad, but it wasn't the best stuff in the world either. Still, it was better than nothing. As he took another sip from the cube, he got to thinking.

Spending the night in the medbay wouldn't be too bad. First Aid was actually pretty good company, and it was nice to feel genuinely cared for every once in a while. And First Aid sure was good at that. He'd only hoped First Aid didn't think too lowly of him for making such a disastrous mistake with those drinks.

"I got myself into a pretty big mess, huh?" He tapped the side of the glass as he looked back up at First Aid.

Accidentally poisoning himself wasn't the worst mess Swerve had gotten himself into. There was the Shoomer, the elevator, and then of course the infamous Swearth incident. That definitely took first place, no question.

First Aid smiled through his optics as Swerve took the cube from his fingers. Aid watched like a careful parent, prepared to catch the glass should Swerve lose strength or falter. Aid knew patient independence was important, but he couldn't help but worry and want to coddle each of his patients. They all deserved to be treated with the most tender of touches.

"I wouldn't say it's too bad of a mess. Let's run through my checklist; you got your optics still right?" He smiled once again, gently running the back of his hand across Swerve's cheek. He hadn't wanted to risk scratching the visor.

"Check. And do we have all our fingers?" First Aid then moved his own hand to hold Swerve's with both of his own. Gently he gave each finger a little bop, returning to hold it mitten style as he had been previously. Another assuring squeeze.

"Check. And how about your spark, it's safe and sound where it belongs right?" That free hand gave a gentle tap with his knuckles to the plating above Swerve's spark casing. Afterwards he let his palm rest flat, thumb stroking the area gently.

"Check. And last but not least, do you have both pedes still attached?" Reaching down, First Aid gave another gentle tap to one of the tiny pedes rested at the other end of the berth.

"Check! I'd say that, even for a minibot, you still had only a small mess. Not that it wasn't important, because that's not the message I'm trying to get across to you, but you don't need to worry about coming to me with any concerns. Not. One." He punctuated each sentence with a squeeze to each of Swerve's hands before he adjusted his posture in his seat by the berth.

"Finish up that cube, we can continue to talk if you have the energy once you're done. Who knows, maaaaybe I'll just so happen to tell you the last three accident reports I had to fill out. I'm sure those would make you feel better about having to stay over night."

Swerve paused mid-sip as First Aid began his checklist and brushed his hand across his cheek. He'd have probably choked on the drink if he hadn't frozen up trying to register exactly what was going on. Listening and watching as First Aid continued down the list, he could feel his face getting warmer, and he hoped to Primus that they weren't changing color to match.

He wasn't used to this kind of attention at all, and so he didn't really know how to respond other than to get as internally flustered as anyone could get. First Aid's assurances were nice, nice and genuine. Nervously swallowing the mouthful of medigrade, Swerve gave a small smile.

"Uh, heh, thanks." He glanced back down at the cube for a moment and began to tap the side with his finger. A nervous habit of his.

Swerve perked up however at the mention of discussing accident reports. A larger smile plastered itself onto his face. The minibot really was too curious for his own good sometimes, but really, how could he possibly pass up such a golden opportunity for more gossip fodder?

"Accident reports? Well you should have mentioned that sooner, I'd have tossed this stuff back like a shot." He took another sip from the cube, his mind racing gleefully with all the possibilities of what kinds of accident reports First Aid would tell him about. Swallowing quickly, the smile became a mischievous grin. "Is it embarrassing stuff?"

"Ah, ah, ah! Finish your cube first!"

First Aid fell into a soft him, tracing circles over the back of Swerve's Palm as he waited for Swerve to finish up. Once that was all said and done, it was time to get a little gossipy with the chatty minibot. Surly it wouldn't be too too bad to discuss with the absence of names, right?

"Well, earlier last night I had a mech come, errr well, carried in. Not sure exactly how it happened, but they managed to get a tear in their valve mesh. There was so much spiked energon despite how minor the patch up was. But I promise they were 500% more embarrassed than you could ever be here in the bay."

He paused, smiling cheekily through his optics.

"That is, unless you manage to be like some of the other mechs I've had recently. One, uh, got-- well I had to remove foreign objects from another bot yesterday. I felt really bad, it really was no need to be shy to ask for help. Though I made sure not to ask any questions. Not that I think you'll try to get anything stuck where it doesn't belong, I'm more than a comm away."

Taking Swerve's empty cube out of his hands, aid reached for the second cube on the end table and passed it to the bartender.

"Though, I guess there have been worse things to need to come to the medbay about. You'd rather be in for something minor and embarrassing than anything seriously fatal. Either way, I'm here at your side. Better or for worse. Today's case is better, far better. But, now it's your turn. What are some bar stories you got for me?"
