Wheel Chair Races (don't tell Magnus); Open Thread

Helloooooo Nurse
Ultra Magnus couldn’t find out under any circumstance what the medic had been up to. How would it look to see the ships CMO prepping two wheelchairs in the hall, a very unused hall at that, filled with what would later be recognized as strategically placed obstacles. At first glance it was a confusing mess, until First Aid grabbed one of the chairs by the handles and did a running start, letting go of the chair to watch it wheel down the hall, only to crash into a wall.

Someone was going to get hurt before it even hit the finish line, but hey, Rodimus told him to have more fun, right? Aid knew two things about the passengers on board: they loved being reckless and they loved to experience a controlled sense of danger. So what better than wheelchair races? If someone were to get hurt, well, Aid was right there to patch them up or push a leg back into place.

Responsible? No. But it wasn’t like the idea had strictly belonged to him. No, no, this was an idea that had been since Delphi. Back before Pharma had turned. They had raced once, while it ended with Aid needing to get his servo repaired, it was worth the pain for the fun he had.

Rushing to get the chair and fix up the course, he still needed to decide an appropriate prize for the winning mech. That would make things more fun, right? Well, first he’d have to see if anyone bit on the idea. Chances were someone would rat him out to the second in command, it would be a mess trying to come up with an excuse should that be the case.

So much panic, so little time!
Given everything that had just happened, Velocity was a little bit on edge.

Well, perhaps 'on edge' was too strong of a phrase: it was more than her internal shenanigans detector was incredibly sensitive. What with the whole stampede that had happened before, and new crewmembers to deal with (or so it seemed), she was ultra-alert for something else that could end up in another standoff.

...like someone skulking around in unused portions of the ship.

On the alert for more quantum nonsense, Velocity went to investigate...and was a little surprised to find something relatively normal was behind what she thought were shenanigans.

"Aid...what are you doing?"

Caught by Lottie, which was arguably worse than Ultra Magnus in this case, First Aid just stood there red handed. I mean, he really had no real excuse. Holding onto one of the two wheelchairs, First Aid just simply looked down and upon meeting her gaze again, he shrugged. What else was there to explain, really?

“Ratchet and I always joked about getting together a wheelchair race. It was gonna be me and Ambulon vs whoever he had chosen. Goal was to do as much noise and cross the finish line and disperse before Ultra Magnus caught on. But you see, now we are down two players, I know I could easily find some bots looking to lighten up and just, you know. Have fun.”

Whirl was the first that came to mind. Beat his previous idea to buy balloons on shore leave and fill them with the wash solvent and start a mini team based battle on the ship, it would really boost morale after all the hardships everyone had faced.

The upside was that Lottie wasn't a snitch...that, and she could definitely use some sort of stress relief after said shenanigans. Something stupid and reckless (that wasn't going to land someone in the medibay) was probably, well, just what the doctor ordered.

"...I can totally see that out of the lot of you," she laughed. "Did you try recruiting at Swerve's?"

You know what--scrap it. She deserved something fun after everything.

"Well, as much as I wanted to print out fliers and plater them all over the halls and swerve's; I figured it was best to keep my tracks subtle. I mean. Before I only needed one recruit and that was on Ratchet to pick a partner. I already had my, uh, ace in the hole. Ahaha."

He looked down at the empty wheelchair, giving it a little push and pull.

"But, yeah, maybe we should try and get the word out a bit more subtly. I kinda hoped that one of the more carefree bots like whirl would end up partnered with Ratch. Only because, well, the mini's shouldn't be in a demolition derby."

Velocity's face went a little blank as she imagined Tailgate as a compact little bomb.

"...and maybe it's a bad idea to, you know, send Tailgate careening down the hall at high speeds. For all we know, he'd punch a hole in the hull," she laughed nervously. "Maybe we can snag somebody in the hall--there seems to be a lot of loitering going on."

“Yeah, I mean, Minibots would be easier to push for sure but I really don’t need to risk explaining to magnus as to how we pierced a hole in the ship because we sent one flying…”

Maybe it was best they didn’t race wheelchairs while they were in orbit, maybe when they were parked at shore leave this would be safer… Oh well, too late now, everything was all set up and just in need of participants.

“So we both agree no minibots then? And nobody Megatron sized. Unless he intends to push the wheelchair. I’d be okay with Megatron pushing me to my victory, though I can already feel the crack I’d get across my visor and in my optics should I hit anything at an angle. He has a lot of upper arm strength, unsurprisingly so.”

"Definitely minibots. And we'll try to keep the freakishly tall racers to a minimum." She paused, considering something. "So...would it be a bad idea for me to suggest Tailgate would be really good at the pushing part...?"

She had a feeling they'd regret the idea, but, to be fair, it'd probably be good strength control training for Tailgate.

"My only concern with tailgate pushing a wheelchair is that they might get a little too excited and forget just how strong they were. I mean, think about it, would you feel comfortable with Tailgate pushing you? I mean, it's not that i don't trust Tailgate themselves, I don't trust their strength."

It was a valid point, besides, tailgate pushing almost seemed like it was cheating.

"No, but that might be a good way to help with the whole strength control thing." A pause. "Also, we can always give him the heaviest person to help even the playing field..."

“I suppose before we start assigning teams that we should at least round up some mechs interested in potentially getting reamed out by big Ultra Magnus so we have an idea with who we have to work with. I mean, I’m not too comfortable with Tailgate pushing my chair only because I know I’ll end up flying and getting damaged, however, I also would prefer to do the pushing so finding a partner for me might be different for you if you were leaning towards being the one inside the chair.”

This was turning into a real science.

Velocity grinned--it was the first real one she'd made (outside of her dealings with Nautica--being members of the same sorority rather helped there) since joining the crew, it seemed.

"Depends on who we recruit. Where should we start, boss?"

"Well we can either try to find someone together, or we can each split up and bring someone back. I'm not sure which you'd rather. While it might be easier to grab attention with the two of us together, it makes us lose that element of surprise for who's going to be against who."

First Aid motioned a little thumbs up. He wouldn't say it was a feeling of happiness, but a weight lifted, a lightness of his chest. Metaphoric weight, nothing physical. It was little comments about being 'the boss' or 'the CMO' that usually lifted his mood. It felt nice to be appreciated in that way.

Velocity grinned.

"Also, there's the tag-team element. They can't run away as easy. So! Where do we start? Swerve's?"

"Yeah, we can start out at Swerve's and least scope out our choices even if we don't manage to recruit anyone. It can also help us set up some ground rules, I mean, I'm sure there are some boys that can't participate because it would be considered cheating."

Aid finally let go of the wheelchair, letting it roll forwards a short length on its own.
