He'd gotten the comm yesterday. From Brainstorm, a message to meet in the oil reservoir at this time, today. "Bring your camera." (As if Rewind ever wouldn't!) All in all, very vague, and thus very mysterious, and while a good part of Rewind wanted to be a bit exasperated at the scientist he couldn't deny his curiosity having been piqued. Some kind of invention, or experiment, he was assuming - he'd done plenty of recordings of those for Brainstorm and other scientists while he and Chromedome had been stationed at Kimia. But with Brainstorm, no one could tell what said invention would be. Now, he'd slipped away from the hubbub at Swerve's to make his way down to the reservoir - the closest thing the ship had to a fairly wide, open space, he supposed. And usually free of other people, as well. Whatever Brainstorm's thing he wanted Rewind to witness & record was, had he not wanted to do it in his lab? Rewind caught himself trying to think of the different possibilities, bouncing on his pedes a little bit as he walked despite himself. But soon he was at the place anyway, and made himself shelve those thoughts - he'd find out from Brainstorm himself soon enough. "Alright Brainstorm, this better be good," he said aloud as he entered the large room. He put on a lightly-cross, bemused tone, but he was sure something like curious eagerness probably crept into his voice anyway. |

Brainstorm practically sprang from his crouched position at the sound of the door opening. Mindful of his step in the near darkness of the dimmed overhead lights. "Well, that makes two of us then!" Brainstorm sounded chippy despite his words. It was hard to place where his hope was. For the project to be successful, of course, but more than that he hoped it would inspire something in him even if this particular pet project didn't work out. "Alrighty, so, today I've got a short range teleporter. Not for anything living, that probably wouldn't end well." Very, very short range, if it even worked. The science did check out, as impossible math generally did with time and consideration. Keyword impossible though, a teleporter, even for inanimate objects, was gonna take some time to get right. Even if it only half worked, it should make for an interesting video. |

Rewind was taken aback for a second as his optics adjusted to the low light of the room, even darker than this place was usually, and adjusted his camera for the same. He made his way towards where he could see Brainstorm waiting carefully - wouldn't want to fall into the reservoir in this low light, it was deep in there. "A short range teleporter?" he asked, intrigued already. "I know we have long-range teleporters, but huh, I don't think I've heard of anything shorter than spacetravel-distances. What makes short range harder? The precision?" Not that Rewind knew that much about teleporter technology for any range to begin with, but Brainstorm's technobabble would be interesting to hear - and record - all the same. "Any reason for this darkness?" he pointed up at the dimmed lights overhead. |

"It's the trying to get it to not explode part that I'm working on. One thing teleportation needs is a lot of energy, and most of it is burned out between point a and point b on bigger jumps." Brainstorm explained, recalling the main project notes with ease. "All that energy is trapped between the two shorter jump points, and all that energy needs to release somehow." And he'd come up with a way to burn out the extra energy, it was rudimentary, and a little dangerous. But it'd probably look cool. "Ah, and the dark is more for the video playback." Even if it did end up exploding, the dark wouldn't make the explosion any less entertaining to watch. The setup was two disc like platforms, they were small, small enough that they'd be unable to transport even the smallest minibot, for safety reasons of course. Brainstorm currently had an old wrench on the platform, the first trial. A heaping hose of cording and data lines streamed from between the two platforms and a data reciever. That way, even if the project failed, he'd have some data to go off of. |

"Somehow," Rewind repeated Brainstorm's words, wiggling his eyebrow ridges. That sounded like it'd be exciting. The scientist's explanation made sense so far, though, Rewind double-checked to make sure he'd gotten the recording of it, then turned his camera to pan across the experiment setup, trying to get a shot that included Brainstorm in it too to capture their scales. Wow that was a lot of cables. He zoomed in on the wrench - a wrench that might be about to go down in history. Rewind glanced back up at Brainstorm, and decided to get some more pre-experiment background footage. "So what even inspired you to go for a short-range teleporter? Or is it just one of countless projects you have going on at any given moment?" Honestly, he wasn't asking just out of curiosity and archive purposes. He hadn't been particularly close to Brainstorm before, knowing him as Chromedome's friend but not particularly sure he'd call him that himself. But after the other Rewind's death, and how Chromedome had said Brainstorm had helped him through it - and not to mention the whole time travel escapade giving Rewind (if not everyone) a new look at the mech - Rewind found himself wanting to finally get to know him better. This meeting for this experiment was as good a place to start as any, right? |

"It's just-" Brainstorm gestured with his servos, not really conveying anything in particular. "Just something to keep me occupied." Something not quantum timeline related. As soon as this project proved to not work, he'd be back at one of his lab benches trying to solve the mystery of the day, for now, he'd try to enjoy a little break. Brainstorm prodded at a data pad, one last check to ensure the prongs outlining the spherical disk were set to function properly. If he could prevent the explosion in favor of a little light show he honestly would. If he was going to be destructive he might as well make it a pretty. "So, the prongs lining the outer edges release energy, and the shape of the prongs should arch that energy into channels, visible channels." In short, it was going to be very bright. "You might want to stand at a distance though, it could still explode." |

Rewind nodded silently at Brainstorm's loose answer. Not every invention the scientist came up with had to be the next time machine, he figured, but something about his answer seemed...listless. Maybe this experiment would cheer him up, at least somewhat. Either the project would succeed or there'd be an explosion, and either of those sounded like fun. He did scoot away from the disk at the mention of said explosions, though. "Ready when you are!" he called with a thumbs-up. |
