So much panic, so little time!

Velocity chuckled. "Enthusiastic much? But yes--I'm from one of the colonies, Caminus to be specific. So's Nautica...whom you'll probably meet soon. She's very touchy, so don't freak out if she tries to pick you up or hug you or something--she doesn't mean to offend, she just has a thing with touch." She nursed her drink for a little bit, thinking on music from home. And, subsequently, trying to ignore the sudden stab of homesickness that accompanied it. There wasn't time for that here--not with everything that had been going on. So, probably very unhealthily, Velocity swallowed the feeling. "Music? Um...well, varied. We kind of really lean on the performing arts, so we have basically everything you can think of. Musical theatre, a capella, tons of experimental stuff--anything you can imagine. I think I might have some playlists saved away on one of my data pads--I can send some to you if you'd like?" |

"Ah, I'm just very interested in these kinds of things," Jitter told her, trying to contain his excitement. He knew that he tended to stutter if he got too excited, tripping over words when he was in a rush to get his thoughts and questions out, and when Velocity said she was from the colonies, from Caminus, his excitement nearly shot through the roof. "C-Cam - Caminus really does exist? We had a few references to Caminus in the archives, but nothing that, ah, could confirm him or any of the other Titans. Just legends and plays. I have them on my database. I must've read them thousands of times, but I never though they were a-anything but legend." He forced himself to pause for a moment and take a drink of his engex, muttering to himself to calm down and stop being such a nerd. He couldn't help it, he was a cultural archivist; this was his job. Cataloging the old classics back home, keeping records of plays and prose, that was where his passions had always laid. Of course he'd read plays and legends and caught references to the Titans of myth. Taking another slow drink, Jitter set his glass down, a little more calm. At least until Velocity spoke of the music of her home. He was basically starry-eyed at the idea of a performing arts culture. "I would love that, actually!" |

She blinked a bit owlishly at the onslaught, not quite expecting the enthusiasm. Being much more used to First Aid's version of enthusiasm, Velocity didn't know what to do for a moment or so; everyone else on the ship was so jaded or sarcastic that this was a bit of a change of pace. Her brain clicked back into gear as she processed the flood. "Mh-hm. We've all just been hiding, I guess?" More like the distance between (not to mention a cataclysmic war) had made it easy for motherland and colony to more or less forget about eachother and go along their merry way. Or not so merry way, as it were. For either of them (and she knew that even if First Aid hadn't told her what had been happening back home specifically!). "Calm down--deep in-vent. Though I have to admit, it's nice to see someone enthusiastic about things that don't explode..." There was a brief pause as she tried not to think too hard about how many would end up in the medibay tonight because of whatever shenanigans. "I'll send what I have along when I get back to my hab. You can do with the data what you like, by the way. None of it's personal or anything--just stuff I brought from home." Which, rather unbidden, sent another twist of homesickness through her spark. Velocity swallowed that as best she could, and took quite a bit more of a sip from her own drink to wash it down. |

Jitter covered his face with his hands, the metal of his face heating up under his face in embarrassment. His mask, opened to drink, slid back in place, snapping shut to hide the color on his face. "S-sorry!" he apologized. "I just get excited sometimes. I've missed so much since we left home." If Lacuna and Trencadis were here, they'd tease him endlessly for his excitement. He'd always been the one most eager to learn everything he could, throwing himself headlong into new information. Not that they'd been any less eager to return home and find out what they'd all missed and only heard rumors of when they visited other worlds, but they'd both been able to restrain themselves better than Jitter could. Taking a deep in-vent as Velocity suggested, Jitter took a moment to let himself calm down - reminding himself that he wasn't a newly-built mech and he should have some dignity - before finally letting his hands drop from his face. "Is there something I can offer in return?" he asked. "I'd like to return the favor, if possible." |

There was a vague, nonchalant gesture in reply. She wasn't particularly upset--especially considering who else she dealt with on a daily basis. Jitter was pretty tame by comparison. To some, anyway. "Well, I..." She'd initially thought to tell him to think nothing of it. It was just some music--that was all. Most of it was playlists and various files sent to her by friends back home to help give her something to listen to on her first foray. In other words: it wasn't a grand gesture of any sort. Either way, Velocity was probably one of the worst choices for a cultural ambassador! But, more importantly, there was information that she lacked a great deal of. Information that probably would have been useful before. "Actually--there is something you can probably help me with." Mostly because she hadn't been able to snag Rewind yet. "Do you happen to have anything in or on Primal Vernacular? I'm doing a bit of a...comparison." Maybe it wasn't best to bring up their new friends carefully tucked away on the empty decks... |

Jitter picked up his drink again, now that he'd calmed down a bit, and let his face mask split again so he could take a sip. At Velocity's question, he gave a nod, lowered his glass, and gave a smile. "Primal Vernacular's my specialty," he told her. "When I worked in the archives back home, I was in charge of the classics department. Almost everything was in Primal Vernacular, so I had to study it. I've got some old books with translations in my archive I can upload to a datapad for you." Maybe he'd make himself useful to the crew by offering to share his archives. He carried so much of the old literature and music of Cybertron - some of it predating the Functionalists - that he'd be surprised if no one else was interested in what he could offer. Jitter had been told of Rewind, another archivist on board, and wondered if he could get a chance to talk to him. |

She was definitely interested! "I would love you forever for that," she replied with a smile. "You see, I've got this...project. I'm trying to bridge the linguistic gap between Founding Camien--which is kind of like Primal Vernacular?--but I'm neither a linguist nor do I remember a lot of my lessons. Truth be told, I kind of daydreamed during my language classes." What she didn't say was that her project involved someone who was--from what she'd been told--very dangerous. Velocity still didn't know what to think about Vos, but--despite everything--he'd been cooperative. And so far he hadn't done anything stupid. |

Jitter couldn't help a little laugh at Velocity's response to his offer. "Not saying eternal love isn't a valuable payment, but it's just a few books." He found himself curious about Founding Camien as Velocity mentioned it and made a note to look into it later. "Are there any linguists on board that might be able to help you with your project? I mean, I'd offer to help, but I wouldn't want to impede on your project when I've only been here a few days." As far as he figured, he'd already helped by offering the books. He didn't think Velocity knew him well enough to accept any further help without establishing a bit more rapport between them. He wasn't even sure what she was doing, so he wasn't sure how much more he could actually help. |

"Er--well," she started--struggling to figure out exactly how to word things. To make matters worse, she didn't know if Jitter had been given the Rodimus Introduction to Everything...which was probably pretty heavy on the condemnation at this point, what with Decepticons randomly showing up out of the blue. "Yes and no. Skids--you'll see him around, even if you're not introduced--is an extreme polymath, Rewind--who's another archivist, by the way, you two should talk--might be able to help. And then there's someone else who's really, um, fluent in Primal Vernacular. But he's been a little distracted lately." Velocity wondered if she was going to regret bringing Vos up, even obliquely. It was probably best not to go introducing him--or any of the others on the lower deck--unless necessary. Jitter would meet them all eventually, no doubt. |

Jitter took note of the two names Velocity gave him as crew members he'd probably get to know with time. He'd been told of Rewind before and he was excited to meet him - another archivist who could catch him up on everything he'd missed over the millennia would definitely be someone he wanted to meet. He knew the war had probably kept the culture of Cybertron from evolving much over the years, since music and literature, theatre and dance, were hardly things on the minds of those caught up in endless war, but surely there'd be plenty to learn from Rewind. Skids might be interesting to track down, too. "If the, um, summary of what's happened on this ship the captain gave me is anything to judge by, and I say summary, but it's very generous to use the term, I don't blame anyone on board for being distracted. Maybe when things settle down, I could talk to him." Did anything settle down on this ship? From the very brief, very half-sparked summary Rodimus had given him before sending him out to find a habsuite, Jitter doubted this was going to be an easy trip. He'd have to figure out something to do to occupy his time. "Aside from projects learning Primal Vernacular, what's fun to do on the ship?" |

The look she gave him could only be described as sympathetic. 'Fun' was entirely a matter of taste, and most of the crew's ideas of fun usually ended up in a visit to the medibay. When someone said they were having fun...it was usually code for shenanigans that Magnus did not approve of at all (not that he approved of any shenanigans, but that was beside the point). It took her a while to decide whether or not to warn the diminutive archivist of this tendency of the crew. ...he'd only just arrived, and she didn't want him to think they were all a bunch of bruisers. "Well...I guess movie night is normally pretty fun. Swerve has the biggest collection of off-planet media I've seen (aside from Rewind's footage, but I'm not sure if that counts) and he normally has something or other playing here in the bar ever few weeks. You seem more like the entertainment type rather than the 'recording all historical events' type, so you should like it. Good way to meet people." Even if they were normally pretty soused by the time the movie of choice was over. |

Jitter deflated a little at that first look of sympathy. He really wasn't sure what to expect on board the ship, no longer familiar with his own species after millions of years, but he'd hoped there would be enthusiasm for some of the things that had been fun before the war, before he'd left Cybertron with Herodatus and the other archives. Was the music he had on his databanks still played by other Cybertronians? Were the stories he'd loved before still told? Had Cybertron's children lost their cultural identity over the millennia? At least they had movie nights. Jitter managed a small smile at the idea of joining the others for that. "That sounds good, actually. I'd like to meet some more people on board. It's going to be a long time before we get back to Cybertron, so I might as well try to make some friends. Although, before I do that, I need to find a place to stay." Finishing his drink, Jitter took a look around the bar, taking note of all the different mechs in the bar. He felt he was in over his head just being on board. He hadn't been around this many Cybertronians in so long, it was almost a sensory overload to try to take notice of all of them. "You don't happen to know anyone looking for a roommate, do you?" |

Velocity felt a little guilty at the look. She hadn't meant it to be mean, after all, but--well! She swirled her drink a bit, trying to regain footing after a little bit of faux pas. Thankfully, though, the topic changed and she shed some of the awkwardness eagerly. "Ooh, you'll meet mechs on board. Believe me. It's hard not to, especially when some are kind of touchy..." Like Nautica, who had to squeeze everyone she met, it seemed. "As for habs....Swerve's always looking for a roomie." Sure, he talked nonstop (some of his nicknames had been well-earned, to be fair--at least the ones that weren't outright insults), but he wasn't a bad bot to be around at all. Velocity just didn't know what all Jitter had heard since he'd started exploring. "I wouldn't listen to all the stories bots tell, though--he's a talker, but he's got a good spark." |

"I look forward to it, actually." Jitter didn't mind touchy, as long as the one doing the touching was careful. He was so small, they'd have to be cautious not to dent his plating with casual gestures. He was just glad to be around people to meet again. "I haven't really had much of a chance to make friends. It's just been me and the others for a long time. I'm a little overwhelmed, if I'm to be honest." At the mention of Swerve, who Jitter recalled was the bartender, he looked over towards the red and white minibot serving drinks. Velocity spoke of stories told of him, but Jitter was too new to the ship to have heard anything. Really, Velocity was the first one on the ship he'd had an actual conversation with, since the captain had mostly just given him a quick spiel to welcome him on board and sent him on his merry way. At this point, all he had was Velocity's word about Swerve and he was willing to trust her on it. "I'll talk to him, I suppose. Maybe when he's not so busy. I don't want to disrupt him while he's working." |

"You'll do fine," she replied with a sort of tut-tutting gesture. "I'm not even from the same planet and I've still managed to find people to talk to. It's all a matter of, well--of timing, really. It's amazing who you can run into when you think about it." She swirled her drink again, thoughtful. In fact, that was how she'd managed to strike up a conversation with most of the bots she hadn't really known outside of their occasional presence in the medibay for their physicals (or for having things reattached. Not for the first time, though, Lottie tried to figure out if warning Jitter about the...adventures...the crew managed to find themselves on. But, well, she probably wouldn't have believed Nautica if she hadn't witnessed a Lost Light style adventure first-hand before she'd even joined the crew. ...nah, the little archivist would be fine. Right? "I wouldn't feel so self-conscious about that. He multitasks more than you'd think." A pause. "That, and he's always glad for someone to talk to, really..." |
