Helloooooo Nurse
It was another one of those slow days, slow and predictable. Ratchet was off reading in his down time, aid really couldn't blame him. Ratchet was, well, an older mech and there really was no reason for him not to take advantage of the down time for some little rest and relaxation. Pharma had left early, First Aid had noticed that ever since Ratchet had returned, Pharma had made sure to make himself scarce. While it bothered Aid a lot, that the two refused to even talk, he could understand why things were the way they were.

After two hours of actual reports and real work, First Aid had fallen to temptation. Rewarding himself for getting work done, First Aid was nose deep in his wreckers issues. Not that he had any catching up to do, it was more for re-reading purposes. Pharma wasn't there to tease him, accusing him of ogling. He did not ogle. Psh. Okay. He might have a hair when it came to Ambulon, but in his defense the mech had a nice set of deep golden optics First Aid had ever seen. How was a mech as weak as Aid supposed to not daydream even a little at what could have been when he found himself lost?

But that was different, and this was now. But the 'now' of swiping through his data pads was short lived, as the sound of the medbay doors opening caught his attention. All it took was one fluid movement, swiping the data pad off into a desk side drawer as if hiding the evidence. Hardly hiding anything when he had forgotten the stack to his right was not work reports, but more issues. But that was easy to forget when he saw just who was coming through the medbay.

"M-Max?"

Tone questioning, soft surprise, First Aid was up and on his pedes as soon as he saw the others paint scheme. This was definitely going to be the most interesting part in his whole week, let alone his day.

(THIS GOT REALLY LONG SORRY)
-

During his time on the Lost Light, Fortress Maximus had purposely avoided the medbay. Coming to grips with his new reality had already been enough to make him feel uneased by the area. Maximus' new reality was one in which he had awoken, after three years, in a strange medical center, to be immediately barraged by both a tangible and microscopic threat. That would have set anyone on edge around doctors. Absolute, blinding rage had marked that day in his memory, as it did the other reason he avoided the medbay.

Aside from being in the brig for a good chunk of time afterwards, thus preventing him from visiting even if he wanted to, Maximus' breakdown drove him away from the medbay. He'd been sedated while his injury (courtesy of Whirl) had been addressed; that, or he had disassociated throughout the entire process. Both seemed equally likely, until he remembered what he must have been seen as, then: a threat. Rightfully, too. He stewed in contemplation while in the brig, running through lists of every bot he should avoid if/when he was released. The list was only a bit shorter than his list of crewmembers to personally apologize to.

In this purposeful exclusion from the medbay, Maximus had missed out on something he should have done from the start. It took months (had it been years, yet?) to address it, once and for all, as he made his 'temporary' return to the Lost Light.

Seeing that he had startled First Aid, Maximus was already beginning to regret this. Was First Aid still afraid of him? Had he ever been? Had he always been? Though, that was why Maximus was here: to finally get answers, and finally give some of his own. To clear up the river of murky water he'd left crashing in his wake after his breakdown...or, really, even before that. He had a lot of his mind. Besides, if anything went wrong, he could cover himself by claiming he was here for a check-up.

He tried to keep his voice level as he spoke; it was bad enough that it seemed naturally intimidating.

"We never really..." Maximus trailed off. The rest of the sentence- '-really spoke after Delphi'- died on his tongue. Maximus cleared his throat, starting over: "I thought we could benefit from meeting up, again."

As soon as it was confirmed to be Fort Max, which I mean how really hard is it to confirm that when the mech is pretty enormous for starters, First Aid's rolling chair had flew backwards with the force of him standing up. Pedes carried him swiftly to the others side, not even hiding the thrilled buzz of his field. Often times, such as this, First Aid forgot that nobody would see the big dopey large grin he wore when he was excited, it was the smile that shone through his optics that would be carried across. Boy did his optics flash bright. Opening his mouth to speak, Max had taken the initiative to start the conversation. Aid thus quieted down, letting the other get out what he wanted to say.

The words were out in the open, causing Aid's field to give another warm pulse. He was undeniably thrilled, hoping that Fort Max wouldn't be put off by the excitement but instead relieved. Softly, with slow servos and a delicate touch, First Aid held onto one of Max's far larger servos with both of his own. It were times like this where Aid was happy that nobody could see the way his smile was a wobbly line.

"Oh, oh Fort Max, of course... I've, I haven't good with keeping tabs after Delphi, but I never stopped worrying about you. I know you're able to hold your own, but I knew if something were wrong or if you needed to talk you'd seek me out. Seek someone out."

Suddenly he had one of those ah-ha moments, giving the servo in his grip a slight squeeze. He was very conscious of his strength as a medic.

"Max, oh, where are my manners? Let's, how about we go sit and talk in one of the patient rooms? If anyone needs me they can come and find me, or comm me, whatever. Not important. We can sit awhile and catch up, I would like that a lot..."

"That...that would probably work. Yeah."

He wasn't necessarily known for his eloquence, but nonetheless, Max still mentally kicked himself for his response. He hadn't seen First Aid at all since Delphi- not even in Swerve's. This was the resounding welcome he gave him? 'Yeah'? He cleared his throat again, lightly squeezing the servos that clung to him. It felt odd to be touched by First Aid. It felt odd to be touched by anyone, sure, but...this was different.

The last time that he remembered being touched by Aid, it was to take off the jumpercables that had saved his life. Gentle touches as his frame shook with rage, like First Aid was trying to calm an animal before sending it to attack. Fort Max remembered that vividly even as the rest of Delphi became a blur. It was fine; he didn't want to remember Delphi.

Even the brief memory of that day made him anxious. Max cautiously met First Aid's optics (visor? whatever) before speaking again, "If you aren't busy, I actually could use a check-up. Again, not if you're in the middle of anything."

"You don't have any need to worry, trust me, I haven't been doing much as of late. Even though my at had mostly healed, there's still little to do other than sweep in some checkups. I'd be more than honored to give you a quick scan and check up."

First Aid was such a soft, delicate mech. Even back on Delphi he was always calculated. But his pacifist nature had greatly increased since Delphi, his avoidance for fighting had completely taken an all new level. More or less the medic's had it in them to fight, sure, but Aid was the absolute bottom of the batch. It was only really ever drawn out by Pharma, his aggression that is (if it could even be called aggression). It was sobering to see Fort Max here. A good surprise indeed.

The stretch of private rooms were not far off from where First Aid had been seated at his desk. Quickly he had held the door open to a room more suited for Max's frame size. It was the first time since greeting him that first aid had let go of his hand. No worries. He'd find himself latched back on soon enough. Not that Fort Max was something delicate and made of glass and paper, far from that really, but First Aid felt that sometimes when you are that size and build its nice to be seen as something past that. There was more than what rested at the surface, dare I say, what meets the eye.

He waited for Max to get comfortable on the berth before giving him a quick optic scan. Text filled his HUD slowly, skimming and sifting for anything of concern. Thankfully there was nothing alarming popping out directly at him. While he was not in perfect health, which who really truly was? Aid sure wasn't, Fort Max seemed to have a good record just from the looks of it. It warmed his frame, spark giving a pleased pulse.

"You know, usually when I hear 'I need a check up' it's when someone has blinded themselves or is poisoned or missing a limb. I think you're my first willing checkup. But, let's see if anything needs some fine tuning."

Aid approached slowly, lighting up his optics as he began to peak into the deep joints of Max's knees. He reached in to untangle any messy cords. It happened, sometimes without notice until one snaps.

"When did you get back on the ship? Was it when I was on Cybertron? I'm so glad you seem to be doing so well, I could chat your audios off all afternoon if you don't stop me."

"Well, I'm not in any hurry to- oh," Maximus cut himself off. Honestly, whatever Aid was doing to his knees- realigning cords, probably?- whatever it was, it felt good. That wasn't why he'd come here, but hey, he wouldn't pass up the offer. Maximus collected himself and continued, "I'm not in any hurry to stab my eyes out or rip my arm off with a poisoned sword."

His idea of a 'light joke' may have ended up a bit morbid, but First Aid was a medic. He could handle it. He was tougher than he looked, or than he seemed to acknowledge himself as being; it was First Aid who'd taken the initiative to revive Max, after all. That took some guts. Even with that in mind, First Aid was still gentle as he went about his work, and that was something Fort Max could always appreciate. It was true that bigger 'bots tended to have higher pain thresholds, same as the fact that bigger 'bots could handle more stress. Both points just made Maximus all the more appreciative of First Aid's unique attentions to him, and for the fact that he wasn't being treated like a sentient chunk of titanium. (The irony of that thought, given Maximus' anatomy, was lost on him.)

"I just got here about...a week ago? I haven't been around a lot. I didn't ask where you were, but..." Maximus stretched, feeling First Aid's hand retreat slightly as he did so. "I don't have anything planned today, so go ahead and talk me deaf. Though I guess I'd need another check-up after that, huh?" In a truly rare occurrence, Maximus actually chuckled. Maybe it was his good mood that granted him enough confidence to continue, "Thanks for giving me the chance to be healthy again. You know- Delphi. All that."

A little awkward, a lot mis-worded. Just enough balance of either that Maximus didn't immediately punch himself for mentioning Delphi at all.

Chuckling at Max's joke, First Aid was just about finished with the cords beneath his first knee as the medic listened on. While he knew Max was more of a quiet type, it was honestly really nice to hear him open up so freely. Not that he didn't talk at all, but it was, it was something where most mech's didn't get a good chance to socialize with Fort Max. Aid truly felt special with that realization.

Then came Max's little thank you, and First Aid weaved from where he stood under one knee to stand in the parting between his thighs, arms crossed casually and slowly letting himself lean against one of his large legs. Surly if Max was uncomfortable he'd nudge Aid with one knee.

"Oh, oh Max, I was just doing my job, there's no need for thanks. Really, like, Pharma and Ambulon were so against me even trying to jumpstart your spark with my own, we had no idea how the turnout would be..." Softly he turned to hug into the others thigh, a little short to really give an appropriate hug. He was only a few inches off Rung's height after all, only looking larger due to the bulk of his armor.

"You're so sweet, Max. I'm not going to give you the 'live every day like it's your last' speech because, honestly, that's garbage. But Max you really don't need to thank me, as much as I appreciate the complement and sincere thanks aside."

It was poor timing to address that Max was one of the few he'd been able to save at Delphi. The odds were stacked so far against him. All aid could do now was state up at him, smiling through a set of bright blue optics.

"As risky as it was, and Primus forbid that I need to, but should circumstance repeat itself I would jump your spark again."

Catching himself tracing idle shapes against Max's leg as he spoke, First Aid grew slightly embarrassed with his lack of professionalism. With that he ducked and weaved down to work on untangling the cords of Max's other knee joint, hoping to provide a little relief where he could.

"Your suspension is in great shape, all I see wrong are mainly little things like this. I'll have you feeling better than you've felt all week, but it's really nice to have you back on the ship, you know? I'm, I'm not too good at saying goodbye. And Luna-1, I, that..." He hated to think about what transpired out there. It made his intake tighten. "Luna-1 was not good for a lot of us. Im just glad that you've made it back to us in one piece."
