Doing all the heavy lifting.....
I guess we're supposed to believe Noah is gay for one reason, because Noah's father believed it. And he clearly had reason given his desperation to hook Noah up with Maddie... and this was before he knew Luke was involved. Then there was the fact that something in the past involving other guys happened that the Colonel referred to (though we never found out what that was) and there was the conversation that day in the Lakeview between Noah and the Colonel where Noah said that both he and his father were aware of Noah being gay and both had been denying it for a long time. And the Colonel admonished Noah for using Maddie and lying to her and everyone when he knew that he was gay. So, those scenes tell us this was an issue long before Luke came along, before Noah came to Oakdale. It was just Noah's relationship with Luke that brought everything out. The thing is, there are things in Noah's past regarding guys that are out there, the show has said as much. They just haven't given details about what was going on.

I also found the Noah line just meant to be funny and maybe even it could be read as "Hey, I used to be deep denial, but now look at me, gay, proud, and with my boyfriend".

I can certainly see why people aren't fully convinced that Noah is gay, because of how he was written in the summer. I got stumbled across the vids on you tube in late July and so I had no idea Noah was supposed to gay or become Luke's man, but I was never convinced he was straight. I just never bought his relationship with Maddie. Seemed forced to me from day 1 and there was slight hints to me that made me think "Hmmm, this Noah character will probably ending up turning gay and liking Luke." turns out I was right.

I disagree about Noah going back girls if broke up Luke. I would have agreed back in Nov, and even most of Dec, but I think Noah has made much progress and I give him more credit than that. I think Noah wouldn't give up on getting Luke back so easily. I think he would do what he had to do to get him back.

It's interesting how different some people see these characters.

Because I hadn't watched the show in awhile, maybe I came to it with a new and different perspective, I don't know. For me, I know people like Noah (maybe it's because I actually grew up in Missouri and lived near Branson for close to 10 years...I don't know) so when I started watching, I had no idea that he was *intended* for Luke but started to realize that there was something going on there. I was actually quite puzzled by his relationship with Maddie because it seemed contrived and very forced.

I guess growing up in the boonsticks gives me an insight into deeply closeted individuals and that's how I've viewed Noah. I think the lack of "gayness" is representative of so many men that I know who have denied who they are for so long it just becomes a part of who they are. They are their lie. So when they actually get into a situation that could expose that, and something that they can no longer control, it looks as though it's strained and forced because, in some ways, it is. They're going completely against what they've trained themselves to do and be. And that's just it with Noah. He's trained himself, like a good little soldier's son, to be exactly the opposite of everything that he really is. So right now, he has to unlearn everything that he's learned growing up. You don't get rid of 18 years of that kind of emotional and mental control (and possibility even abuse) and not have scars from that or have vestiges of it somewhere in your life. It's just not that easy.

I don't agree with the opinion that he'd go straight for the putang if something happened to his relationship with Luke. I think as he's learned what *real* love feels like, he'd have a very difficult time going back to anything else. How could you when that love has spoken, for the first time, to who you really are as a man?

At first I thought that Noah and Maddie had terrific chemistry and made an adorable couple. Eventually though it was pretty clear that Noah was trying too hard and was forcing things. Maddie even said so a few times (this was before we had a clue that Noah was gay -- at least obvious clues, there were a few hints).

I like your insight as to why Noah as to his history and his denying to himself that he was gay and why he wouldn't go looking for a woman if he and Luke were to split. You're right. He has found the first real love, of any kind, because of Luke. Why would he continue to deny himself of that even if he lost Luke? I never looked at it that way. Thanks for the insight.

Wasn't Jake introduced when he first came on as a love interest for Van's character? So ppl knew all along he'd be with Luke? Is that correct?

And you're welcome. Now if you could tell bubbles what a fucking genius I am about Noah, that'd be great!

Yes, it has been printed in all the soap mags that Noah was for Luke. So people who read soap mags (TV Guide did a story on it as well) knew that Luke and Noah would be together. But, what threw a lot of people off was that the inital story was that Luke and Noah would meet, Luke would be interested in Noah, but assume he was dating Maddie. But he wouldn't be and only a few weeks after meeting Luke and Noah would start dating. The boys problems would come from Holden and Lily, who, while having accepted that Luke was gay, would have that drama brought all up again when Luke starting dating a guy. But none of that ever happened. Instead, Noah and Maddie really started dating and sleeping together. A lot of people assumed the show scrapped the romance and were going for a Noah/Maddie match. Of course they were wrong, they turned it into a real triangle and lengthened and extended the story. And as we know, Luke and Noah were seriously involved by the time Holden and Lily found out anything was going on. And neither of them were particuarly uneasy about the relationship. So while it had been widely reported that Noah was for Luke, the show's rewrites confused things.
