It seems like Noah has been written so far in such a way that he doesn't ever show emotions, Noah is very stoic, probably due to his upbringing. Do you think the show needs to change this? If Noah wore his feelings more on his sleeve, and expressed what he was feeling - not trying to be so polite all the time and thinking he did something wrong, not being afraid to cry, whatever - would this make Noah a better character? Just trying to start some discussion..... |

It's a good question. Of course, given Noah's background, it's unlikely that he would suddenly have a breakthrough and telegraph his emotions like Luke does. However, there is a difference between writing a character as not showing emotions and writing a character as not having emotions. Even the most stoic character needs to have at least a couple vulnerable moments when we see what's really going on inside their heads. I would say that even though Noah has had his share of vulnerable moments, I didn't really learn all that much about him during them. EDIT: Perhaps I'm being slightly unfair. Jake has had his fair share of really nice, exposed moments and deserves credit for them. But the character is still a mystery to me after all this time, and shouldn't be. I mostly blame the writers. |

I don't think that Jake should go overboard with the emotional stuff. Van tiptoes very close to OTT for me and if I had to deal w/ Jake doing that....I'd need to take a Valium or something. I wouldn't mind seeing Jake have more scenes that require more out of him though. |

I definitely think he should show his emotions more. I want him to shed tears. Not all the time but sometime...please. I blame Jake not the writers because he can add more and he hasn't. Just my take. |

Well, I'm going to have to respond to Bubbles here, just can't resist. I'll admit that Jake isn't always consistent in his acting, but I think he has delivered on many emotional scenes. I thought he delivered and showed emotion on the Christmas episode and the episode he asks Luke to move in together. I think more of the blame is the writers for not giving him enough to do or say most of the time he is on screen. |

I actually agree with Pat for the most part. Jake isn't given much to do to show his emotions, and there have been times when they really did come through--I agree about the Christmas episode. There have been times, though, when he was called on to show emotion and it didn't quite work--but in most cases the writing for those particular scenes would make it difficult for any actor to pull off. I hope the upcoming storyline gives him more opportunity to show his acting ability, and then we'll all be able to form an informed opinion. The only thing that I actually blame Jake for, at least mostly, is his chemistry with Maddie, which some Luke/Noah fans deny but to me is crystal clear. He should have toned it down, and it can't be blamed on Alex Chando or the writers (some of the responsibility should be shared by the director). Possibly his interaction with Ameera will make up for this, but I don't think so, especially if she ends up being his sister. |

To me it would be interesting to know just how much direction Jake (any actor really) is given to deliver a certain scene, for example - "be sad but don't cry in this scene Jake" or "Show anger but not scary anger this time Van" or whatever. I'd like to know whether or not they receive emotional direction (to what degree to emote) or whether it's just up to them, knowing this type thing would be quite interesting, I think. |

I do think he has done well on occasion but he hasn't delivered at times when I think he could have added more. I have watched soaps my whole life and there are subtle actors that can still reel you in. There are stoic characters that can reel you in because I believe a actor can add little touches. the problem I have is when I see Noah , I see Jake acting as Noah. But when I see Luke, I just see Luke not Van. If that makes sense to you. It's hard to explain. |

That is true, bubbles, and I think (I could be wrong) it comes from Van being much more like Luke in real life than Jake is like Noah. Also, he's a better actor. Sorry, Pat! However, I do think Jake does a good job, and is severely hindered by the lack of real character development. Given more to do, and better lines (Stop calling Luke names!), I think Jake could impress me. But still, I completely see your point, and I don't ever get drawn into the character as I do with Luke, or for that matter, Carly or Holden. |

what you said right there i agree with. When i seen this to the first day he play Noah.. I didn't know who Luke was or if Noah was for him. I thought Noah and Maddie was going to be a couple the first time i seen them together.. |

You're not the only one. And to some extent, I think that was deliberate, because they wanted to "surprise" us with the kiss and whatnot. I suspect, although I can't prove it, that people who think that there was something "off" about Jake's chemistry with Alex think that way because they knew Noah was for Luke, and therefore something seemed wrong about him being with Maddie. I would be willing to bet that if people thought Noah was being brought on the show for Maddie, there would be quite a few fans of the couple, who did in fact have great chemistry. I don't blame the writers in this particular case, because the writing was actually pretty good for the most part, but Jake and the director should have telegraphed Noah's discomfort in the relationship more than they did. |

I always wondered if possibly it was done to ease the conservative viewers into the character of Noah, but that's just a theory for possible explanation. I have no clue of course. |

I was like CodeNuke and didn't know that Noah was for Luke when I started watching but I know I practically stand alone on this but, I still never thought Jake and Alex had that much chemistry. They had some and were "ok", but not great. I blame the writers a little bit because they didn't write any scenes of Jake feeling conflicted, but instead wrote him to appear striaght, I blame the directors too, because Jake was told to play Noah that way, if he was told to play Noah more conflicting about his feelings, he would have done so. Oh, I have no problem admitting Van is a better actor than Jake. I can't deny that. I think Jake has done a good job overall, especially with some of those lame lines that he's had to deal with that you mentioned Violette. |

I definitely think Jake has improved. I will not deny that at all. but I think after 7 mos he should be better than he is. I mean the new Casey captured my attention immediately. That usually doesn't happen it takes a little bit. Heck I had to warm up to Van but that's because I LOVED Jake Weary portrayal of Luke. I'm willing to still give him a chance though with the upcoming storyline and if he does well what will I owe you Pat? |
