http://www.michaelfairmansoaps.com/message/thread.cfm?message_id=175&page=1 Today was a day that shall live in soap opera history! As Oakdale celebrated it's version of Gay Pride, soap fans, "NUKE" die-hards, and "ATWT's "viewers, were treated to a truly memorable episode and should take PRIDE. My hats off to Van Hansis who turned in such a special performance just with looks that revealed so much, throughout Cyndi Lauper's magnificent and moving rendition of "True Colors". Yes, our Luke even was serenaded by Lauper! And now look how far we've come! A Gay Pride on daytime TV? A discussion between Luke and Lauper about how important it is to spread the message of Gay Rights and discrimation in smaller communities where people may be less tolerant and accepting? A big kiss between two Gay men? Luke asking Noah to spend the night with him only to find out that Noah enlisted in the army and needs to leave Oakdale? It was all to hard to believe. Was I dreaming? No, fellow soapers, it really happened and it made it to CBS Daytime! I was very moved today reading the various"NUKE" message boards and soap-related sites to get the pulse on people's reactions to this episode which was dedicated to the Luke and Noah storyline and Gay Rights. I also cried, and shed tears ( how can you help but not?) between Van Hansis's, Luke, and Jake Silberman's, Noah, and Cyndi! It had been several years ago, back in the 80's when I remember being at New York Gay Pride and Lauper singing, "True Colors" and how important it meant back then, and how important and vital the song is still now. When you hear the lyrics you understand the message. For any person reading this who has faced bigotry, discrimanation , and looked for equality in human rights, this song and this special episode should help reflect and make us look at society today. Kudos to Chris Goutman, and the "ATWT" writing and producing team, for having Oakdale Pride right around all the major cities summer Pride festivals, and for poignant and moving moments that all "NUKE" fans, and that the GLBT community can relate too. If "ATWT" can keep telling their love story in a way that can educate and help those in the viewing audience who look to Luke and Noah as a hopeful and believable possibiliity in their own lives... then daytime has truly done something truly profound. And isnt't that what had always made daytime unique? To tackle the social issues of the day, when no one else would? We can all go to bed tonight, with our rainbow colored sheets and rest comfortably. Thank you "ATWT". Keep telling the story! |

Doing all the heavy lifting.....
|
That is a nice article. Very nice. And the show does deserve kudos. They didn't have to do yesterday's show.... they chose to. To me, that says a lot. |

And they chose to devote 57% of the entire day to it, 21 minutes out of 37 total. I don't think they've done anything close to that, for any single plot, in quite a while. |
