Doing all the heavy lifting.....
|
That's what I said at the end of today's episode with the boys. I think the hug and the look on Noah's face of contentment and satisfaction was just about perfect. It was a nice close to this plot arc. |

I haven't said my piece yet....and although I haven't done extensive reading to find out other people's thoughts, I have so far seen no posts whatsoever from anyone who really, really got what just happened today. If someone before me has said this, please accept my apology for not being aware of it. But people, today was significant...and I really, really hope the writers have complete and utter understanding that what they did to Noah today should be irrevocable....at least it had better be. Today was judgement day for Noah Mayer. And he passed with flying colors. Luke comes along, and puts up with lost, confused Noah one last time, for good measure...because a good soap has to start out that way. Then, the recruiters come in, and Luke is....well, Luke....totally honest. He didn't volunteer any information, but when he was asked, he spoke the truth. Just like he did with the Maddie thing last summer. He volunteered nothing, but when asked point blank, Luke Snyder puts the honest truth right between one's eyes. And last summer, when Luke outed Noah without a word, Noah went from shocked at this, to angry, to realizing eventually that Luke was right. This time, Noah skipped the angry part, and went immediately from shocked, to understanding...because again, he knew that Luke spoke nothing but the truth, and that Luke was right, and because Noah deep down knows that he's about to make a mistake. But still, it wasn't enough yet to make Noah change his mind, he was joining the army to find out who he was. Because he honestly didn't know. And so, he leaves Luke behind. And I'm glad, because Noah's epiphany needs to come from within Noah, and Noah alone.....he needs to do the right thing for HIMSELF, and not for or because of anyone else. So having Noah leave Luke in that limo was the right thing. I'm very glad that they took Luke out of the picture long enough for Noah to be totally alone, for his own personal judgement day. The officer asked him tons of questions about what he has done....but none about who he was. When given one last chance, the first thing out of Noah's mouth was that he was gay....and that's one part of who he is. The one part that apparently, he's sure of. He realized today that he does know some part of who he is, and that LUKE is the one who taught him. Not the army. Not his dad. Luke. So, Noah is in the army to find out who he is.....but all they cared about is what he does. Actions are the only things in the army that are going to matter. Just like Winston told him his whole life. So when Noah told them who he is, and saw that they didn't care......he started to question his desire to be there. If he's there to find out who he is, and all they care about is what he does.....then how is he going to ever figure out who he is there? Same for Winston....if Winston only cared about what Noah does, it's no wonder that he doesn't know who he is. I think Noah realized today not only the impossibility of finding himself in the army, but also of the impossibility of ever having found his true self with his father. He sat there, admitted it, with no remorse, no looking down, only looking up and ahead.....and found out that to stay there to "find out who he is" meant he would be forced to hide who he is. I'm glad Noah was alone for this judgement day on himself, because it was made perfectly clear that he came to his OWN decision, and put himself and what HE wants first, all by himself. The words "It's not who I am" were the turning point in the life of Noah Mayer. I think Noah realized today the only time in his life that anyone EVER cared about who he is, as opposed to what he does.....is the time spent with Luke. And it follows, that the only person to teach him who he is....is Luke. So he went running home. The writers had very well better reaiize that they have changed Noah, for the good, forever....and he needs to be seen going slowly forward, not backward, from now on. If Noah reverts to old Noah, it will be a huge , huge mistake on the part of the show. Whoever thinks today's episode was lame, and pointless, and rushed, and insignificant, maybe should go back now, and watch it again, and realize that Noah Mayer was born today. |

Wow LT. I almost cried reading your post and I never cry when it comes to Luke and Noah stuff. The Noah you talked about, the one that changed for the better, that's the Noah I always knew existed and glad to see finally arrived. Your post deserves post of the year. I loved your post so much, I have to read it again. |

OMG LT, all I can say is B R A V O !!!! I totally agree with EVERYTING you said. I've watched today's show 3 times now and I loved it. I loved that Noah admitted to the recruiter that he was gay without hesitation. I loved that he argued with them about their interest in his "criminal" history, yet didn't want to hear about "him" and who he really is? It was a VERY BIG step for Noah to realize that the Arny isn't for him. Like you said, he made this decision on HIS OWN, but also that he took what Luke said to heart. Plus...... this decision showed that he can move beyond his father's expectations of him. It's sad that many people disliked today's show. Do they not realize what giant steps Noah made today? Awwwwww is right!!

LT, would you mind if I posted this on the Noah Group on SOC. I would ask to post it on the main message board over there, but it is over there limit on the amount of letters you can use. and you can't post two posts in a row, but I think I can get away with it in the group area. |

Absolutely wouldn't mind, if you think anything I say is worth anything, please use it always. Oh....I just rewatched the episode to try to clarify Noah's definitive line....he doesn't say "It isn't who I am" when the recruiting officer mentions retracting Noah's statement, Noah's actual words (drowned out by the background music --- unfortunately) are even more powerful than that. Noah's response, actually says ".....and deny who I am." Can you change that in your repost to reflect the real statement Noah says? Thanks ! |
