Doing all the heavy lifting.....
|
I'm not quite sure what to make of yesterday's show. First of all, I'm not sure where the story is going. It JUST started so it's hard to tell. I do think it could go in a number of directions... but we won't know where for awhile. My main problem is this: did the past several months even happen? Luke and Noah are acting as if they just didn't go through a very trying ordeal. Luke made a reference to Noah's almost joining the army as if it happened months ago instead of ONE day Oakdale time. And how come Noah encouraged Luke to take the money to possibly make amends with his father without mentioning what just happened to them with Col. Mayer. As for the decision not to have sex? Ummmm, why since several times recently they were raring to go? Why not now? I could buy it if they were still on shaky ground and trying to rebuild their relationship after a few trying months but that isn't the case. They're apparently happier than ever.... so why wait? If they could explain it and make it make sense I MIGHT buy it. But they're not. So it makes no sense. Unlike a lot of people, I don't think the show is so icked out by them having sex that they won't even have them do it off screen. It's possible they won't do it until they can do it right. Honestly, it's the only thing that makes sense. I also don't believe they are just waiting for one of the actors to leave. That makes no sense. They could just fire one or both of them if that were the case and come up with a zillion excuses as to why. It costs money to pay actors and to write scripts and stories. And on a cash poor show like ATWT, who has fired major actors, they are not going to keep around anyone they don't want to pay to be on their show. And personally, I don't want them to leave. No, the story isn't perfect, but I like the actors and the characters and it's not like I can switch to some other soap and watch gay characters. If they wanted to they would've already done it, wouldn't they? And this sounds crazy, but it could be that the actors actually like their job and don't want to leave. Actually, I'm still wondering why they rushed them into a new storyline in the first place when they could have done nothing at all and gotten the same results. So..... while I'm not pleased with what happened, I am intrigued by the new story and looking forward to seeing where it could go. |

OLTL rocks!

Yeah, some thing bothered me about yesterday's show. The sex thing, I'm fine with the boys wanting to wait, I think that's better than the excuses the show was using for why they couldn't have sex, but your right, we didn't get any explanation as to why they want to wait and yesterday's scenes did seem like the whole previous story never happened, which was probably done on purpose since most fans wish that marriage story never happened either and want to forget it. |

The opening scene looked to me as if the beginning of it were edited out due to time constraints....the fade in was too fast, and it's very unusual to start a scene with someone crying without showing how she got to crying...I mean, they would have had to say, "OK Noelle, work up a cry and then action." Doesn't make sense. I think what they cut out, was Luke walking in with Noah and explaining to Lily (and thus the audience) how Noah came home, Lily cried because Noah was home, and the farm move came up. Luke's "say yes" seemed to be said as if they'd already discussed it and it was cut out. And about the sex, they had the perfect chance to take care of it off screen, and have them have done it, with one sentence of dialogue - but they voluntarily passed on that by having yet another talk about it, and purposefully letting the audience be sure they did NOT yet. So they are not smoothing it over, they're taking it slowly and saving it for another time. It's a balancing act - first, one constituency got their first kiss, while the other complained. So they backed off, and the one constituencey required several months of patience while the other got used to the idea of Luke and Noah at all. Then, kisses started back up, and one side was ecstatic, while the other complained less and less....and finally no complaints at all. So they jumped their kissing hurdle, but it took them one full year. Now, round two of the balancing act has begun. It's as simple as that. They aren't rushing in to play their trump card yet, but they aren't ignoring it altogether either. And they definitely aren't trying to rob the one side of their payoff by ignoring the issue altogther, or having it be totally offscreen, as evidenced by the fact of the numerous discussions. And they did just yesterday, have Noah say "for now", for a reason. It's a balancing act that requires patience by ALL viewers, and I just laugh at the people who seem to center every single post around this one complaint. Once it happens, they'll just find some other shortcoming to complain about, or they'll stop watching, becuase they have nothing else to "look forward to." They need to just put a lid on it and enjoy the ride, and stop wishing for the merry go round to stop. |

Yes, I agree that the opening scene started off strange. In fact, I wondered if I had missed something! As for the rest, LT, it is frustrating, but I understand why the show isn't rushing things. The reality is this story is still new to a lot of people. And in soaps, other couples have certainly waited a year or more to have sex! |

Exactly, it just requires lots of patience, and the willingness to meet in the middle...not just from one side or the other, but from all sides. And it can be frustrating to anyone on any side, who feels like they are not being listened to. |

It was wrong of me to only address one side of the coin above...I really should have completed my thoughts above, by saying I also wish the people against this story could all open their minds some, let the show teach the world some good, and try to have a desire to understand more about people who are unlike themselves....human is human. To me, that's one of the biggest goals of the Luke and Noah story in the first place. |
