Let's say you can walk through walls. Or maybe, just maybe, you're able to set things on fire with a simple touch. Perhaps you have a different power all together. If that's the case, you're a "super", and you belong at Pithos Academy; a school filled with students and teachers just like you.
The myths say that Pandora was the first woman to be created, from unique gifts given by the gods. She was also given a pithos (a jar) from Zeus, and was instructed to keep it closed at all times. Curiosity, however, managed to grab hold of Pandora. One day, she opened the jar, unaware of the horrible evils it contained. It was no ordinary jar. Things such as greed, vanity, slander, lies, envy, and pining were released into the world. The woman reacted quickly, closing the jar, managing only to keep one value inside. That value was hope.
Vaughn Anderson had that very myth in mind when he founded Pithos Academy in the late sixties, as he thought children gifted with unique abilities were the definition for that last remaining value. To most humans, the schools would seem like prestigious boarding schools with a closed-off admissions list. The idea, while not flawless, seemed to be the best one at the time. Vaughn was not alone in creating the school, of course. The government was the one to recruit him. They gave him the proper funding and contacts -- everything he would need to build the Academy. While they claimed to give Mr. Anderson full reign, they kept an eye on things from the shadows.
Now, the Academy is reaching its forty-year anniversary. Principal Anderson is still running the place, and all seems to be well..
Except not everything is always as it seems.
