Wallingford, Connecticut. Practically the middle of nowhere in the United States. Most of you probably look at the name of the town I live in and have no idea where it is. In fact, I wouldn't be suprised if none of you did. But Wallingford's a small town in the state of Connecticut with the most prestigious boarding school in the state. It's at this school where I reside, where I learn.
There's not much to learn about Wallingford, except that it has been around for ages. It's an old town, a small town that tends to build slowly over the years. But its roots start at Heritage Woods Academy. An expensive boarding school with a hefty tuition. Most of us, such as myself - our American heritage starts here. My mother, my grandmother, my great-grandmother all attended this school. As did my father, and his, etc. It's the same way with most of the students around here.
You see, family's grow up together. With that, so do ancient friendships and rivalries. But now, Heritage Woods has expanded, and have invited new students from around the country to come and live here on scholarships or tuition deals. It's Wallingford's way of getting itself on the map. Or any for that matter. The old families and the new kids are having trouble getting along - poor newbies, stuck between old friendships and rivalries. But that's not the point. The point is, these new kids want to come here. But us other kids, we want to leave.
Things change over the generations. None of us are like our families, our parents. I'm one of those kids who don't act like her mother did. I have no regard for the rules, nor do I put myself to ridiculously high standards and ways of living. I am who I am. In fact, I'm a teenger and it's the year 2008. So, I plan on acting like any normal teenager nowadays. I feel bad for Heritage Woods - it's not ready to move on with the new generation. But it's going to have to, because all the rules, the regulations and even the reputation is going to shambles.
There's only one thing I've learned. When you try to obtain what you want in life, you need to be careful what you wish for. Why?! Because you just might get it.
