So the tiers MBI posted are now the official list. Here is how to not fuck up your PM.

1. THE BASICS OF THE TIERS

The tiers should have no impact on which free agents fit your team. They are set up that way because that's who we, as a group, have decided teams would most likely target. It has no guarantee on what their future performance levels will be, and should absolutely not impact how much money you offer the player, at all. The tier system is in place so that you can set out to acquire a player at a certain position and not accidentally end up with 2 guys there when you only wanted one. For those who weren't in previous sims or don't recall, our old FA system was to simply list all the players. Everyone would offer, and all players would close at the same time. This led to teams who set out to acquire, say, a third baseman, accidentally acquiring TWO third basemen, because they had to float out all their offers at the same time. The tiers system (should) eliminate this.

2. HOW TIERS WORK

Make all your bids at once. I usually recommend to not even look at the tiers when checking out who to target, because it's going to influence your decision making. I'd recommend first targeting specific positions, then seeing what's out there, then selecting your targets independent of their tier. For example, if you're looking for a catcher, but you like Alex Avila more than Dioner Navarro, don't just bid on Navarro because he's a higher tier. That would be stupid. But let's say you DO like Navarro AND Avila, and you're hell bent on getting a catcher. However, you only want one. This is why the tiers exist. You DO NOT have to send a bid on the lower tiered guy right away. If you DO NOT win a higher-tiered target, you will be given the opportunity to send in a new bid on a free agent in a lower tier at the same position (exception: LF and RF are grouped together as corner outfielders) that you were not previously in on (assuming your offer was reasonable. You won't get a rebid if you bid like 1.2 mil on a tier 4 guy. That is not a lot of money anymore, your offer needs to be in the ballpark of what the player should be making in order to get a drop down bid). Tiers will close (obviously) in order highest to lowest. The top 3 bidders for each player will be announced, as well as anyone who fell outside of the top 3 who had an offer worthy of a drop-down bid. The top 3 bidders will then rebid on the player, and if they so choose, include a "contingency bid" on another lower tiered player at the same position. The "c-bid" will only come into play if you DO NOT win the player.

You will get roughly a day or so to get each round of rebids in. We are all grown ups with the internet on our phones, this really should not be an issue for anyone.

If you have any questions, this is the place. If you don't ask anything, I am to assume this is all CRYSTAL CLEAR. Any fuckups are on your end.

Bidding is now open. You get ONE SEND so if you fuck something up or send them before reading this, so sad too bad. And I fully expect just about EVERY GM to send bids, ESPECIALLY those of you who are generally lazy and don't do much here. If you just let the most active GMs scoop up the free agents, you're going to fuck up the competitive balance, and then what's the point?
