The Basics:
Name: Andrés Cruz
Nickname: “Hurricane”
Birthday: April 25, 1993
Birthplace: Orlando, Florida
Nationality: Puerto Rican
Height: 5’10”
Weight: 140 lbs

Bio:

Andrés “Hurricane” Cruz is an American MMA fighter from Puerto Rican decent. Third generation of Cruz living in the US, Andrés enjoyed playing all kind of sports as a kid. Never one to pick up fights, he would go for team sports instead. Yet, his mom wanted him to be like hi cousins so she put him in boxing classes, after all, Andrés cousins in Puerto Rico did it and showed promise as boxers on the amateur level, so his mom wanted him to do the same. As an amateur boxer Cruz amassed a lot of in state records, even getting as far as to almost qualify to the 2012 Olympic games in London, representing Puerto Rico.

Once he got to middle school and high school he developed a fascination for Karate, due to the movies, especially Bruce Lee movies and thus began his journey to become a martial artist. He trained in Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai, alternating between the Martial Art forms and Boxing. Becoming proficient enough in both Martial Arts that those styles complemented his boxing ability and made him swift in the ring.

After failing to qualify to the Olympic games, Andrés Cruz, started pondering what to do next. He thought about Boxing, but he found out about MMA. He started pursuing a career in the combat style of MMA and began his training to fully become one. Now, at age 23, Andrés feels he’s completely capable of putting up great showings and so, his professional MMA career begins.

MMA Info:
Martial Arts Style: Boxing, Jeet Kune Do, Muay Thai
Fighting Out Of: Orlando, Florida
Team: The Lab
Trainer: Varies
Trunks Color: Depends, but mostly black or white

Strengths:
1. Outstanding stand up game as his Boxing, Jeet Kune Do and Muay Thai background makes for an eclectic and unpredictable, yet very effective set.
2. Great conditioning and heart, he’s able to go the distance and leave it all in the mat.
3. Great agility and dodging ability (stand up), Jeet Kune Do founder Bruce Lee asked his students to be like water, so like water Cruz is. Flexible and quick, he makes good use of his training to make his opponents look dumb on their feet. He would wait for his opponent to come to him and then try to overwhelm him or her with kicks and punches.

Weaknesses:
1. As you might have guessed by now, his ground game is nowhere near as good as his stand up game. Any opponent that manages to take Cruz to the ground can overwhelm him and beat him there.
2. Average submission and wrestling game, at best he’s average in defending and applying submissions and handling his opponent on the floor. Trainers at The Lab are working with him to better those flaws, but as of this moment, he’s still average.
3. Not aggressive enough, Cruz is a laid back kind of person and that reflects inside the cage, as he won’t go after his opponent, instead waiting for his opponent to come to him. This poses problems at times as he gives his opponent opportunity to scout him and bring him down.

Fighter Tendencies:
Andrés is one of those fighters that will wait for his opponent to come to him, looking for a mistake on their part that he can capitalize from. He knows his weakest point is the ground game so he will avoid mixing it in the ground, unless he knows he can finish up a match with some ground and pound.
