TITANS CENTAUR UNIT (SPECIAL INSPECTION TEAM 8)

Assembled in early 0085 at Konpeitoh, Centaur Unit is one part of a scheme put into practice by Bask Om to co-opt and eventually supplant the EFSF's Side 3 inspection fleet. Nominally, the Special Inspection Teams are placed on rotating duty in Zeon to provide assistance to the small Federal military presence there. In reality, the Titans are preparing to secure the support of the Republic of Zeon's military in case of open conflict with the AEUG while maintaining close watch in a region that could prove a source of anti-Federation personalities willing to throw in with their enemies.

The Centaur Unit were pulled together from multiple different units serving in different locations, with a priority on talented mobile suit pilots and officers with analytical personalities. They've been undergoing training exercises at Konpeitoh for several months to raise group cohesion and get them used to their new mission profile, in particular securing different sections of colonies (both external and internal), suppressing riots and dispersing unlawful assemblies, and conducting colony-side operations as a combined arms unit. The mobile suit pilots in particular have also undergone supplementary training by marine provosts to better function in situations that may call for the fleet to act as a law enforcement arm, and they've been given basic instruction in intelligence gathering.

Magellan Kai-class
Posted Image

The Magellan Kai-class is a short test production run of a refit proven successful by it's little sister the Salamis Kai. These ships are Magellan-class battleships built before and during the One Year War which have had their bow sections modified with a mobile suit launch deck and an internal hangar.

MOBILE SUIT OPTIONAL EQUIPMENT

GM QUEL

90mm GM Machine Gun

"Anaheim Journal"

The GMG-MG79-90mm GM Machine gun was a system weapon developed under the direction of Hollyfield Factory Weapons as a Space/Ground dual use Mobile Suit deployable projectile weapon. Though an overall very compact weapon, it maintains sufficient firepower for anti-MS operations while simultaneously not sacrificing accuracy. One of the reasons for this is the bullpup layout, placing the operating parts and magazine at the rear of the weapon, allowing for a long overall barrel length. On the upper frame, on the forward face of the carry handle, a box-like sensor system incorporating a digital camera and laser sensor system is installed, which increases the capabilities of the GM’s targeting systems, allowing increased target acquisition.

Deployed in the earliest days of EFSF MS Development, the GM Machine gun was standard equipment for the GM line beginning with the Luna 2 produced RGM-79[E] GM Early Type, but was later deployed for the GM Kai, D type, and GM Command. By the end of the war the GM Machine gun had earned a reputation as a highly reliable primary armament, and many variations on this weapon system were created.

Built to improve both effective range and accuracy over the GMG-MG79-90mm GM Machine gun, the GM rifle uses the ‘system weapon’ construction to create a Mobile Suit-portable 90mm rifle. With the extended barrel, the GM Rifle sees a 15% increase in muzzle velocity, which led to increased armor penetration. Additionally, a newly developed caseless cartridge allows for a lightened ammunition load. As the round is now caseless, an cartridge extractor is no longer installed on the weapon, though cocking and ejection functions are still present to alleviate any possible issues with jamming.

Beam Gun

The BG-M-79F-3A was a next generation beam weapon developed as a testbed for a new category of weapon between the Beam Rifle and the Beam Spray Gun, resulting in the new ‘Beam Gun’ category. Though this weapon possessed a number of unusual features for Federation weapons, including externally routed cables, the most unique feature of the 79F-3A was likely the large beam accelerator and battery pack located on top of the rear portion of the weapon. These features enable the 79F-3A to have fire a continuous beam for 1.2 seconds, allowing impact correction within the space of a single shot, which effectively increases overall accuracy. Additionally, this type of beam, in addition to pinpoint penetration of targets, also has the side effect of cutting through the internal systems of the target, which proved to be very effective at rendering targets combat ineffective.

Hyper Bazooka
Posted Image
"Anaheim Journal"

The HB-L-07/N-STD Hyper Bazooka was based on the HB-L-03/N-STD Hyper Bazooka with added targeting sensors installed. The magazine has been changed to a detachable magazine, and is more resistant to debris, weapon impacts, and explosions. Mobility and frame strength have been increased due to the reinforcing rib that runs the length of the barrel, from the carry handle to the rear of the bazooka, allowing pilots to be less concerned about the condition of their weapon.
Just attaching the targeting sensor has increased accuracy, however the ever increasing mobility and speed of Mobile Suits continues to outpace the ability of the bazooka, leading to only limited continuing deployment in specific combat operations.

Hyper Hammer
Posted Image Posted Image
Quote:

Essentially a large spiked ball attached to a chain that provides a mobile suit with a ranged melee weapon. It can either be thrown or swung around a mobile suit in order to impact and damage its' target through the sheer mass of the hammer. It also has several rockets mounted in the central ball in order to allow it to maneuver more effectively in space as well as giving it the ability to change its' direction before impact, and to increase the damage it causes.

Pump-action Shotgun
Posted Image
Quote:

Based heavily on the ZUX-197 shotgun used by Zeon mobile suits during the One Year War. It has a 9-round capacity with ammunition including rifled slugs, 00 buck shot, MS-use "birdshot" (BB shot), and non-lethal pepper spray airburst canisters. It can be loaded via pump-action, or automatically by an electric mechanism.

Vulcan Pod
Posted Image
Quote:

Although the GM Quel, like most Federation mobile suits, mounts standard vulcan guns, it is able to be outfitted with a 60mm 2-barrel vulcan pod on its head. The vulcan guns are housed in the left side with two firing ports, while the right side functions as a balancer and magazine. The primary use of this additional weapon is as a weapons platform to fire microbursts of non-lethal tear gas canisters, smoke rounds, and other crowd control options

Shield
Posted Image
"Anaheim Journal"

The RGM-M-Sh-AGD shield is a Tower Shield (a shield with an arched horizontal curvature) enlarged to Mobile Suit size. Developed late in the One Year War, it uses the same Titanium Ceramic alloy materials as the Sh-007. Though a curved shield can be expected to prove very resistant against physical rounds and beam weapons, the subtle curvature of the shield is difficult to produce, with high production costs which made the shield unattractive to produce at the beginning of the One Year War. The surface of the shield also has increased beam coating than previous models, and can dissipate greater amounts of beam energy. Additionally, the points at the tip of the shield can be used as spikes in melee combat, though the top opening of the shield is also designed to prevent interference with maneuvering verniers.
The back of the shield has weapon latches that can accommodate various types of equipment, but also can accommodate two spare machine gun magazines.

HIZACK

Zaku Machine Gun Kai
Posted Image
Quote:

A recreation of the original Zaku II's machine gun, developed in order to provide a cheaper and less energy-consuming weapon. The drum magazine can hold 100 rounds.

Heat Hawk
Posted Image
Quote:

An axe-like weapon of the same style as the one used by the original Zaku II. Thermal energy is relayed through the mobile suit's hand to heat the blade, allowing it to more effectively slice through armor. Although the Hizack would normally use a beam saber, it would have to use this if it was using a beam gun due to it's insufficient generator output.

3-tube Missile Pods
Posted Image
Quote:

Mounted at/around the waist, these missile pods allow a Hizack to better perform bombardment attacks at medium to long range.

Arm Shield
Posted Image
Quote:

Though the Hizack has a shield mounted on its' right shoulder, this forearm shield is an optional model that mounts on the left arm.

The Hizack is also capable of using the Beam Gun, Shotgun, Bazooka, and Hyper Hammer used by the GM Quel.
