This game we’re playing called MafiaRPG is mostly about the life of a mobster. But there are a lot of things that comes along with this life, they’re almost like “mini games” within the roleplaying game.
Breaking balls
The Breaking balls game
The video below is a famous scene from the movie Goodfellas, where Billy Batts breaks Tommy DeVito’s balls and it all turns ugly.
This is basically every scene in this RP of ours, ever. One guy goes ahead and breaks someone’s balls and end up beaten up or dead. But there is a big difference in the Goodfellas scene, they start off by breaking balls, but it doesn’t really turn ugly until Billy decides to cross the line.
Billy: *Takes a drink.* Now go home and get your fuckin’ shinebox.
You know, gangsters break each other’s balls all the time, it’s almost like a game within the life of a mobster. They get upset, yes, but in the end it often just ends up in laughter.
I want to ask you all, the next time someone breaks your balls in character, go ahead and tell him you’re not in the mood, tell him to stop breaking your fucking balls all the time. If he then decides to cross the line, just like in this scene, please feel free to react to it however you’d like. This makes the whole “Breaking balls" game more acceptable in the role-play. Personally I want to see more of it without people overreacting like a bunch of cunts.
Nicknames
The Nickname game
A lot of people create characters where they give themselves a nickname, this is perfectly fine because the name can be from earlier in the characters life. But a person can have multiple nicknames. Nicknames are given to you, not claimed. The people around you, your friends are the ones who are going to use your name, so they are the ones who comes up with the nickname.
The nickname game is basically discussing a fellow characters personality traits and such. Coming up with a nickname for a person is then something you can do In Game, instead of just OOC. Nicknames are especially important when every other guy is named Frank or Joseph.
Let’s say a friend of ours, named Nicholas is always late to the party, you can call him “Nicky the snail”, because he’s always so fucking slow.
Here is another scene from Goodfellas, where we get introduced to a lot of characters with nicknames that can give us an idea of what they actually are like.
Slang words
The Slang word game
A big part of the game is to really bring a character to life, you should act like the type of person you’re roleplaying. Are you a wise guy from the Italian American community in New York, New Jersey? Then there are a lot of slang words you could learn to use in your characters dialogue.
In the video below you can see one of Stevie B’s “Italian American Slang Word of the Day!” witch is a great series of videos where this gentleman explains some slang words for us.
I just wanted to explain this so we can all improve our game.
