Totally Tonkas Bonkas !!
Part Five

With the primer dry I had to decide what colour to paint the airframe.....then remembered I had to paint the wing tips red ( I knew I would forget !! :redface )

The Revell colour callout is for Aluminium but this is quite shiny and I wanted something more like the High Speed Silver colour that the aircraft wore in real life that was not shiny shiny B) but more a "flat" silver that rapidly faded to a colour closer to a very light grey.
After a bit of research and help from The Boss (Thanks PB :thumb: ) I went for a colour from my fave range of paints .....Xtracrylix RLM 01 "Silber" ....yes a Luftwaffe WW2 colour on a post war RAF Fighter
Apparently this is a very good match for High Speed Silver as is also the GamesWorkshop/Citadel colour Mithril Silver ( now renamed Runefang Steel )

Airbrush out and on with the RLM 01

After leaving to dry a few hours I then removed the masking around the wing tips and added the wheels.

Part Six...Decals

Started to put the decals on tonight and , as usual with Revell kits these days , they work flawlessly , bedding down without much help though I did use Micro Set and Sol and even used Revell Decal Soft for the first time with similar results to the Set/Sol combination. Excellent.
Lately the decal sheets have dropped the Cartograf name and just have "Printed In Italy" on them .....does anyone know if these are still printed by Cartograf or is it a new printer ??

Posted Image

Just a note of caution if you are doing the kit wheels down......the last two digits of the underwing serial code cover the two part main undercarriage door but are not printed separately so some cutting of the decal is required.

Posted Image

I used the paint/decal images to roughly guess the angle of the cuts. Its easier than it looks

Just make sure you dont mix up your left and right !!

Another thing I noticed ......not sure which is correct ....check your references

Underside decals are completed.

Will do the rest later .

I learnt a long time ago to place the painted doors into their aperture with some white/blue tac before fitting the legs, decalling then varnish before slitting the decals and removing the covers. Your way seems complicated to me but end result is perfect.

Part Seven :Finishing touches

Decals on and now to deal with the tail sitting issue with a bit of magnetic attraction
I got a wooden base and drilled a hole in it to fit the first of two mini magnets I will be using....the other one is superglued to the nose wheel.
Important note....opposites attract !! Dont get your Poles mixed up or it wont work ;)
These magnets can be found on ebay and cost a few pounds for 20. You can get them in all shapes ,sizes and quantities and they are really useful :cool

And that was the end of a very enjoyable build !

Conclusion

This is a very welcome re-boxing of the Special Hobby kit and even though its not without some fit issues that need a bit of old fashioned modelling skill it is well worth the extra effort needed to produce a very nice replica of this attractive early jet.
Just dont forget to fill any empty space near the nose/cockpit with lead or you will have the same problem as me ! :redface
Thoroughly recommended to anyone with basic modelling skills. :cool

Thanks to Revell for the review sample

A lovely build. The little jet looks good, and your tail sitting solution needs a patent on it before I steal the idea.
