Another very famous name for anyone with an interest in space missions passed away today aged 87.

John Young had a remarkable career as an Astronaut . Starting with Gemini 3 in 1965, he went on to fly on Gemini 10 and subsequently in the Apollo programme on 10 and 16. During the Apollo 16 flight, he became the ninth person to walk on the Moon. Not content with those flights, he also flew the first Space Shuttle Mission, STS-1 and also on STS-9.

John Young was the first person to fly in space six times.

His space career was in some doubt after the Gemini 3 mission as he'd smuggled a corned beef sandwich on board and NASA wasn't amused, but he was obviously forgiven!

Another aviation legend gone.
